Well, last night my husband and I closed the doors of White Crow Comics for good. We struggled for months to get all the bills paid, but with the economy the way it is, we just couldn't keep going. Sooooo, we went online: www.whitecrowcomics.com.
We don't have a shop up yet but we've got alot of our other content if you guys wanna check us out.
Hopefully we can eek out a living online. It's a sad change for me. Alot of people were hopeful for us, saying it wouldn't cost as much to run, but it's just not the same. I don't like computers...I like people. Alot of our customers were really really reallly sad they lost us. Our town is dull as hell and there was no where to go but to us.
We're going to keep doing conventions though, so if you live on the east side of the US then you might see us around. :)
This will also give us more time to work on our roleplaying game project and it's connecting comic book series...

Sigh...anyone else having business issues because of the wonderful hell this country has become?

Thats sad to see another shop in Kentucky close up. I saw some of your other posts and was hoping to drop in whenever I was next in the northeastern part of the state. It was almost 9 years ago that I closed mine in Hopkinsville for family issues. Two or three months back, the Fantasy Limited in Owensboro closed (though the one in Madisonville is still going strong).
At least around where I live in southwestern KY, there was a new shop that just opened over on the TN side of the line here. It is only about 20 miles away and they have a primo spot across the campus of Austin Peay University in Clarksville, Tn.

Good luck with your other endeavors.

My sympathies. Some friends of mine shut up their fancy dress shop a couple of years back, so I know something of what it feels like to see part of you life go away.

This is probably the wrong thread for this, but my FLCS is expanding - kind of. I live in Bedford (UK) and Northampton is pretty much the next town over. The owners of the comics store there want to sell out so they're taking over the lease. Alan Moore's been in twice already, apparently

Again, the wrong thread and the wrong category, but/so if I wanted to start a discussion about what works/doesn't work in a FLCS where would it go? "Pub Table", "London Zoo" or even "Printheads"?

The retail section at panelandpixel.com, I'd imagine.

what makes me feel really bad is that our customers were heartbroken. Our store had been there for twenty years before we had to close it up. We had only had it for three, but we had alot of fun with it and most everyone loved us except the conservative christians types that run the town...
We gave them some succor to their pain however, by offering local free delivery or pick up for all our continuing customers. I don't like having all those fuckers in my house...and i found out how disturbingly close some of them live...:P
We're still doing conventions in Morehead if anyone interested by the way. We've got one coming up on the 23rd of this month. Woot.

it's gotten pretty scary around here. We didn't realize how shitty things were getting for everyone until it was way too late to do anything about it. We're still trying to figure out how we're going to keep our mortgage paid. Seems like alot of businesses were going under in our dinky little town over the last six months. The plaza we were in lost three shops itself, and I know of at least four or five more in town.
I really wish they would start fixing things...

I wanna move to Canadia real bad...
