He died at his home in Memphis, TN.

I didn't listen to much of his music as such, but what I heard I liked. And yes, I'll miss him as Chef.

    He was the man
who would risk his neck for his brother maaan

Sorry, that might have been in bad taste. This is no especially huge loss to mankind (that is to say, not any worse than a normal death), except maybe to the soul/funk community.

    Ay...

The way I look at things is that we get what we deserve, the human race as whole.

But whenever I feel down for the world being what it is I remember Bill Hicks saying "Its just a ride".

Anyway: Mr. Hayes, you will be missed.

Wow, that's the first musician I've seen live that is now dead. For my dad it is Marley. "Chocolate Salty Balls" was marvelous.

And the hip-hop community, the film-scoring community, South Park fans... He only won Oscars, numerous Grammys, was a Ghanian king... too bad he was also a Scientology stooge. Looking at his Wiki page, Anon didn't miss him...

So yeah. Nobody will miss him.

Forgive me if I'm mucking up some gossip, but wasn't there something after he left South Park where someone said he was ill back then, and that the Scientologists were covering this up?

Damn shame. Just a fantastic musician, and a funny sumbitch.

Located over here are some Adam Carolla podcasts. search for "Isaac Hayes" and you can play it off the browser. Right off the bat it's a mess.

Those first two maybe (except wasn't he a soul/funk artist rather than a hip hop one?), but not South Park. He left South Park after he decided it was ok for them to make fun of people's beliefs until they picked on his own. He was clearly never going to come back.

@wishlish -- GQ interviewed Matt Stone and Trey Parker a while back. Regarding Hayes, Stone and Parker said that they'd ripped on everything else and avoided Scientology out of respect for him, but eventually, it came to a point where if they didn't rip on Scientology, everything else they did would lose credibility. They went for credibility, ripped on Scientology, and Hayes politely left the program. That's as much as I know.

Edited to add respect for Hayes himself. He added to our culture in a damn fine way, and will be missed.
