"It mostly seems like Metal catching up to what Post-Rock and Noise bands have been doing for years."
If you have never heard any Neurosis, I'd say look them up. They bring in odd electronics and ambient sounds into their sound in ways that fits better than some. Their music is also not the straight metal riffage either, they sound both really old and futuristic at the same time with these kind of tribal sounding rhythms. It is like space age Conan music.
For my recent listening, I got the reissue of Porcupine Tree's Lightbulb Sun a couple of weeks back. I've been listening to that one quite a bit. My work stack has also had a couple of Queens of the Stone Age Cds, Autechre's Tri Repetae w/two EPs, a couple of older Monolake Cds, The Who's Sell Out and a A Quick One.
@Earl - Monolake actually performed at a small restaurant here in Girdwood (AK) a couple of years ago. An amazing, totally organic yet electronic show. (Put some local Anchorage electronica completely to shame). One of (the few) and most amazing shows I've seen since moving to Alaska.
