Should have done this a long time ago, I think, but we'll test out the notion now.

If you've got an event happening in the remainder of this month -- an art exhibition, a gig, a class, a show, a gathering, anything down to and including an open piss-up -- drop the details here. Following Willow's transhumanism salon and Whitechapelers showing up at the COILHOUSE launchparty, it seems like a thing worth doing.

ah, ace - i have one coming up which might interest some on here:

    Highpoint Lowlife presents

Sunday August 31st, Cafe Oto, Dalston
    £5 entry / doors 7pm

    live performances from:

Ruaridh Law, one third of Glasgow’s Marcia Blaine School For Girls, here performs a very special psychogeography themed performance based around the London neighbourhood of Dalston, aided by fellow Marcian Bryan/Beeker, doing visuals. The two have collaborated on a new Max/MSP/Jitter patch for the performance, and we can expect alchemical sound manipulations from digital detritus, moving from obsessively detailed texture and ambience to compulsive rhythms and broken structures.

epic guitar and violin duo, moving from slow-motion tranquillity, swelling into a barely restrained chaotic noise opus.

Debut London show for scotland’s master of dark miserabilism. Working extensively with micromodular synthesis, creating immersive brooding drones and dense atmospheric soundscapes.

instrumental three piece from London, utilizing various combinations of two guitars, two basses, two loop pedals, a drum kit and anything else at hand to make noise.

Well, The Meltdowns are hosting another night at Matchless, a fine bar in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, NY. It will be Zelda Pinwheel's last show, an amazing, eclectic noise/ambient turned rock band that has been known to cause people to instantaneously orgasm during their set. Also playing are the Frozen Gentlemen, a bonkers disco rock band (dare you not to dance music), and opening the night up is The Black Clouds, a raucous post-grunge group.

    The Meltdowns w/friends
    Friday Aug 23rd
    Matchless, 8pm, 21+, FREE
    Driggs and Manhattan, Brooklyn

Just to see if it has an effect on the turnout, I'm translating and passing on tomorrow's open Oslo Role Playing Salon by Matthijs Holter. Grünerløkka, Steenstrupsgate 1, 1700.

The game is "In a Wicked Age" by Vincent Baker (Dogs in the Vineyard).

Salons are open for all; all you need to play is the ability to turn up. Though English speakers might want to make sure they bring a friend or two fluent in english.

    Talking about extended drinking sessions:
Today (as every Tuesday) it's drinking day for me. So, if there's somebody else who lives around Vicenza, Italy, I'll be at Sabotage Bar at around 10pm until they kick me out.

    Me. Beer.

Since the Vancouver Meetup thread is defunct, I figured I'd mention it here in lieu of starting another thread. Are we still on for Friday? If so, where?
    • CommentTimeAug 12th 2008

I am still on for Friday, but since I have no idea where the hell anything is in Stanley park, so I´ll say the south-side of Trout Lake in East Van. We can have our pic-a-nicken and boozin under the large gazeebo thing, and if it continues to be pissy out, which I don´t think it will be, we can retreat to a bar on Commercial.

So, I guess that would be...

    6:30, Friday August 15th
South side of Trout Lake park in East Vancouver, under the large gazeebo
Booze and pie to be brought by all, or some

My band's playing here (Columbus, Ohio) when I get back from a couple conferences in San Francisco:
    YFA @ Bernie's
We play post-hardcore and our friend The Electric Grandmother plays sitcom-core. I think we're the only examples of our respective genres in town. EG is probably the only example of his genre anywhere which is a shame.

Every Thursday evening out here we have an event called the Drink and Draw Social Club. Vegas *hic* is our proud mascot:

On the 21st, we'll be having Mark Millar and Tony Harris out, promoting their new book from Image, War Heroes. Here is a 6 ft. by 6ft. banner I printed for the signing they're having earlier in the day at Comic Oasis.

    So, to sum up:

WHO: Tony Harris, Mark Millar and a bunch of drunken reprobates.
WHAT: Drinking and drawing until we can no longer do either.
WHERE: On the Rocks. Corner of Peak Dr. and Tenaya Way.
WHEN: Thursday, August 21, from 7pm to whenever I'm done drinking Millar under the table.
    WHY: Because we like to.
HOW: Usually we pay for talent to come out here and party with us, but we're fortunate enough to have been included in the promotional tour... Plus, magic.

Ah, okay. Waaaaay too long a haul for me to make it there by 6:30. I'll try, but no promises.
