Nygaard - It'll probably make you sad, but take a look here, 1909 Harvard Classics set that is/was rotting to death in my parent's basement :(
Out and about today and got a couple I liked: Looking out the Light-Rail through the Hennepin County Government Center, I'm gonna try for a better shot tomorrow before I go see Cloverfield. (That flag is freaking huge, by the way)
Random skyway shot in downtown Minneapolis, daytime moon is always fun.
These are my favorite places in the outside world. Enjoy:::
The waterfalls at Palenque:::
Caves Branch, Cayo, Belize::: (you can't stand directly below them, as they will shit on your head)
Getting on the Water Taxi in Belize City:::
Mundo Perdido, Tikal, Guatemala:::
And, closer to home, these just tickle me every time I drive in to work::: Emus in Mississippi. They share a pasture with some homely cows and an unconcerned mule.
I was walking along the unofficial seawall in Vancouver from Granville Island to Cambie St. and took this picture of some of the construction going on there. The official seawall surrounds Stanley Park (the most beautiful place in the world according to god according to Philip K.Dick). Outside of the shot, to the left, is what was formerly called Science World, a sphere shaped building, housing fun science things for the kids. It is now called the Telus World of Science.
Last night I went to a tattoo parlor/art gallery in downtown Vancouver, where my friend had some art on display. Just outside the place two people were shot in an SUV. These are some pics of the crime scene outside. The police blocked all the gallery exits for about an hour. No access to the outside world... That's ok though, because good things happen indoors. Like my friend's painting being sold.
Sapporo Japan, where I'm living now. Taken on January 2nd, when it had just started snowing for real. I'm building up a lot of pics of the snow in general though, coz it's getting higher now and the Snow Festival is in a couple of weeks.
We tried to hike up to a lookout point for a great night view, but were eventually prevented by lots and lots of barbed wire.
Polar bear. Shaking off after a lovely dip in the water. Temperature outside was -6C at the time. At Asahiyama Zoo, outside of Asahikawa.
Oh, ok. Polar bear swimming too.
Tonight, if I had any clue how to take good pictures with no natural light at all, I could have gone crazy. We climbed the gate into a sculpture park that was closed for the night, had to really wrangle the cabbie to take us up there at all. No lights except the moon, it was absolutely beautiful, completely silent, but it was so cold that the only photos I tried to take made me feel like my fingers were going to drop off. I couldn't get anything on my camera. After an hour or so hiking up and down hills I couldn't feel my feet, or rather could only feel pain but it was just amazing. We followed paths where the snow had been tramped down in the day and when you're so intently watching your feet for fear of sinking into the snow you don't notice some of the statues until you're right on top of them. Fucking terrifying and amazing. And then, as we worked our way out we came across a huge arts building that seemed to be deserted except for an old school punk band rehearsing. I swear, I'm pretty sure I wasn't actually on this plane of existence tonight, but I didn't take any photos so it'll have to live in my head.
I was to be there, I know Noah and Frank and Claire, but I got caught IN the crime scene instead. They literally put police tape all around me in every direction as I tried to find my way out. The police finally pulled me out, then yelled at me for twenty minutes, threatening to arrest me for tampering with evidence and obstructing the law.
@MagicSword, great pictures and great description. I know what you mean about being on a different plane of existence. I think Japan naturally throws people into surreality so often that it becomes easy to make the transition.
I took these while out walking around the block today but, I'm a wimp about the cold when my fingers stop responding so it was a short walk. These pictures make it look rather pleasant out, but it was f-ing COLD!
