Lapham's always been a bit of an underappreciated talent, though.
I mean, how many of you guys have actually read Stray Bullets? The first issue came out almost 13 years ago now, and of the hundreds of comic-book readers I know, probably less than a handful have read any of it.
I always kept it in stock in all of the comic shops I worked in, and I'd be lucky to sell more than a few copies a year, despite me trying to push it on anyone who read Sleeper, Criminal, Daredevil or any of the the other more popular books that share some of it's ethos. It's also one of those books that I'd always see in the sale sections in other shops...
I do suspect it might be one of those series that would benefit from a big, cheap omnibus edition, but we'll have to see, I guess.

As for Young Liars, I'm not too surprised it took a bit of a dive from issue 1 to 2, as retailers were ordering it blind, based on other recent Vertigo launches (Crossing Midnight, Scalped and Army @ Love not exactly doing stellar business). The sales on issues 3 & 4, plus reorders, will be far more indicative of how it's really doing. I also suspect there may be a good chunk of people waiting for the trade, but again, we'll have to see.

However, based on the historic performance of other recent Vertigo launches, the odds don't favor it happening. Has any other recent Vertigo launch actually gained periodical readers between 2 and 9? Neither Scalped or The Exterminators did, and we know how the latter turned out.

Also, even if the icv2 numbers are off by roughly the same amount each month, those attrition trends are still pretty nasty. Would any non-comics periodical business accept reliably losing readership month in and month out?

Interesting that there's a small spike. Is it because now Aaron's considered a "legitmate" comics writer because he's recently begun working on Wolverine and Ghost Rider and some of the marvel zombies have decided to check out his other work? That'd be somewhat encouraging.

What's scary is that when the numbers are that low, 101 copies means one spike, and 67 means another. So basically, the turnaround was the result of retailers all across the nation spending a combined additional $150 on #15 and $250 on #16.

So if there's anyone out there who really, really wants to see Young Liars turn around, go out there and ask your local comics store if they'd let you order 50-100 copies at their cost (roughly 50% of cover).
