    I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.
    This subject is somewhat dated but I thought maybe this would be a good place to ask about it. I never did find out what the consensus in the comics community might have been. Please forgive my open insanity.

    In early September 2001 I was reading an issue of the Ultimate X-Men at a store near my house, too broke to actually buy the thing. The climactic ending involved an airliner revealing itself as a Sentinel robot, seconds before it smashed into a skyscraper in a huge island metropolis, killing millions.

    Logan, like the name of the Boston airport which was unable to stop two 9-11 hijackings, Logan, was unable to stop this plot before it unfolded, and it was obviously a huge disaster. I didn't keep current with the X-Men for awhile after that and I only saw just a few specific references in later issues, though I know Genosha's destruction by the airliner Sentinel was relevant for a long time.

    This was the September 2001 issue but it was out in stores almost a month beforehand, hence my curiosity.

    The <a target="_blank" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E_is_for_Extinction">wikipedia entry</a> barely mentions the similarity between this and 9-11, or the idea that like in <a target="_blank" href="http://killtown.911review.org/lonegunmen.html">The Lone Gunmen</a> television series perhaps it exposed some larger insight into an imminent real-life disaster. I am also weird enough to accept the possibility of prophetic artwork in general, I know coincidences like this happen all the time.

    Does anyone know of a website or resource where this X-Men thing is explored in any depth? I've read that mainstream comics will sometimes get their plots from actual events and that actual spies and intelligence people are consulted for purposes of accuracy, was there ever any great controversy about "E is for Extinction"? Please forgive me if this a ridiculous six-year-old dead horse I should already know about, I'm still curious.

    Other to say I think it was an issue of New X-men, because E is for Extinction was a GM story I have no idea how to respond to this. There has to be a joke about Grant being sent back via liquid time travel to warn us all via comics but I can't quite make it work....

    E IS FOR EXTINCTION wasn't an ULTIMATE X-MEN story. E IS FOR EXTINCTION was written by Grant Morrison in NEW X-MEN. Mark Millar would have been the writer on ULT at the time.

    Ah yes, New X-Men, sorry for the slip-up.

    Time is a funny thing, information seems to travel back and forth through that stuff pretty easily sometimes. It's not the only instance of it happening in the comics either, though that would take some explaining. I have some stories about "House of M" which would pretty much destroy society.

    I am now extremely curious about this Morrison and Millar! Alright! A lead!

    I can't remember anything like that in the story. Its been a few years, but I think that story started with the mass deaths in Ghenosha and ended with Emma Frost snapping Cassandra Nova's neck.

    I rather liked that story.

    I just finished The Atrocity Archives (based on a recommendation from this site)and in the original it was Al Quaida that was trying to do a magic based Weapons of mass destruction attack on the US. At the time they were an obscure group and a good choice for the story. Just before the book went to print 9/11 happened and they changed it to the Iraqi spy service.

    Really with the amount of fiction based on this type of thing it is statistically probable that there would be a few close ones. One of the most common comments
    about 9/11 was "it is like a Tom Clancy script.

    I'm not nearly knowledgeable enough about quantum consciousness and theory to offer an opinion on the relationship between Grant's story and the real-life events, but I've always found that the theory of Synchronicity is usually more than adequate to explain the correlation between two (or more) simultaneous events that seem, at the outset, to be interrelated.
    I think Grant touched on a method of terrorism that was a widespread practice-in-theory that had never been successfully exploited. Inbetween my horror and anger on September 11th, I can distinctly remember being amazed that this hadn't happened earlier.
    As for Grant's New X-Men, the entire run is exceptional. Read it all the way through if you have the opportunity.

    Well, Grant Morrison's <a target"_blank" href="http://www.grant-morrison.com/pop_magic_part_one.htm">site</a> is certainly curious:

    I don't recall any controversy about the Genosha attack. I think it was mostly registered as slightly different i.e. Genosha was a holocaust more akin with WWII, as opposed to a terrorist attack. At least, I think that's how it reads. Morrison did an issue much later which revisits the ravaged island which holds a lot more connection to 9/11 for me.

    I personally found the biggest controversy about the whole New X-Men run was Marvel backpeddling and ruining Morrison's last repercussions literally the very next month after he finished. They set up Cassandra Nova as still a threat, which she wasn't essentially if reader's so the not-so-subtle hints as to what became of her, and then there was the whole Xorm/Magneto/Xorn debacle.

    I think its hard to call that a controversy really. Unfortunate for GM's run if you cared to keep reading, harmless if you stopped as I did.

    Yeah, not really a controversy, I just thought they were fantastic little elements to keep and they didn't. Ah well...

    Also, self-professed n00b...what does 'sink' mean exactly? I figured it meant the thread was shut down for some reason, but I appear to be still able to post.
