Ariana usually swings by Largeheated Boy's Try it before you buy it posts on Tuesday mornings, too.
listening to a couple of little acts right now.. Lana Davies www.myspace.com/lanatheoriginal its just here a guitar and a broken laptop making lovely raw love songs, with a beautiful voice (a bit on teh lofi side at the minute though) also Slowclub www.myspace.com/slowclub the happiest band in the whole wide world. Give them a go, she plays a chair!!! beyond that I think it will be the usual mix of Tom Waits and yann Tierson, puntucated by eek a mouse and the gallows at least until i get my pea-pod back and can listen to a morer variagated selection of music
Fiery Furnaces: Widow City:: a lot of fans and critics have panned this one, but it is my favorite... seriously disjointed folk-pop
Danielson: Ships:: now, I have a strong distaste for religion, but I can't stop listening to Danielson's Jesus influenced psych-folk... it makes it easier to accept since he doesn't really sing about those things directly... sounds more generally wholesome than strictly Christian. Still very weird at times.
Ween: la Cucaracha:: who doesn't love Ween?
Roky Erikson: You're Gonna Miss Me Soundtrack:: to balance out the religious pop, here's a guy that couldn't stop singing about the devil and went crazy, only to return from madness and sing about the devil some more.
Thus far I have been cycling through my collection of Lacuna Coil(Comalies, Halflife, In a Reverie and their self titled album), as well as picking up a pair of albums from the Dresden Dolls(Their self titled album as well as Yes Virginia). I'm especially fond of "Heaven's a Lie" and "Our Truth" by Lacuna coil and "My alcoholic friends", "Girl Anachronism" and "Coin-Operated Boy" by Dresden Dolls. Other than that, I've been listening to a fair bit of Flogging Molly (especially the song "Seven Deadly Sins") for kicks.
And I recall "Because We're Dead" by Slow Club fairly well, it's on my iPhone playlist as well...really catchy.
song is sooo good- you should look into "lonely organist rapes young page turner", i think its my favorite dolls song since.
lately: CINEMA EYE- a complete arsenal 12"ep (electro-indie) DS-13- killed by the kids lp (like a swedish minor threat?) HOT CROSS-cryonics (indie hardcore masterpiece) the WHO- who's next (dear god, it better need no explanation) the FALCON-unicornography (gruff rocknroll inspired by oldstyle-side project of lawrence arms/alkaline trio etc) GRAF ORLOCK-destination time tomorrow (grrrrrrrindcore) the INTERNATIONAL NOISE CONSPIRACY- survival sickness (situationist rocknroll w/ garage mixed a lil bit)
In another moment of Amazon madness I have picked up a good chunk of early Jethro Tull for £4 each and I'm now playing my way through the lot. Current favourites:
Nothing Is Easy (from Stand Up) For A Thousand Mothers (from Stand Up) Nothing To Say (from Benefit) Play In Time (from Benefit) Cross Eyed Mary (from Aqualung) Locomotive Breath (from Aqualung) Witches Promise (from Living In The Past)

I tend to listen to albums on repeat, but I think I will be going through a lot of stuff this week.
I'm sometimes scared by the amount of music there is to sort through. It's pretty easy to step backwards, so this week...
1. R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders, Singing in the Bathtub 2. David Bowie, Scary Monsters 3. All of Weird Al Yankovic's Polkas (This seems to drive some people mad) 4. X-Ray Spex, Let's Submerge 5. UXA, Immunity
And finally, the only 'new' thing at the moment, Elvis Costello's 'Momofuku'. I've only really listened to it in passing, but it's starting to grab my attention more and more...
Edit
Oh yeah! Forgot a new Eclectic Method piece. These guys are brilliant. Thanks for bringing them to my attention months back, Warren...
@val a lindsay ii thank god i'm not the only one who's having a hard time getting into momofuku. for an album i went to so much trouble for (bought it on vinyl, and don't even have a working record player), i'm sure not putting a lot of time into it.
i am probably going to go through an elvis costello phase, listened to mighty like a rose today, i continue to have stuff from brutal youth stuck in my head. might just listen to it all chronologically.
I'm expanding my dubstep listening. Recommend me your favourite stuff.
If you like the gloomy atmospheric end of things , Kode 9 and Spaceape's " Memories of the Future" is an amazing album.....recommended on here if I remember.
Pinch's " Underwater Dancehall" is very popular too. A bit too jolly for me.
Burial " Untrue ". Good for rainy evenings.
The Bug " London Zoo" Haven't heard it myself ,but it's meant to be a musically diverse political beast.
This week's listening...adjusting to 6.00 am awakenings by playing " Wonderful Rainbow " by Lightning Bolt at full volume. Joyful , messy and oddly soothing. And the lovely new 4am.
"Barbed Wire Kisses" - Jesus and the Mary Chain "Blast the Human Flower" - Danielle Dax "Younger Than Yesterday" - The Byrds "Human Destination" - The Upsidedown
