I'm using it right now (white Chapel works! Yay.) and It's very much in the spirit of Google-Talk simplicity with power. Loved it.

For me, it's only missing: Flash Blocker and Skins to be use-able (don't know how long I'll stand the blue look..)

Oh, it has a built in spellchecker, meaning we will understand 30% more of the internets?

http://www.google.com/chrome

(warning: 400k is a lie, it's self downloader.)

 Hum, more downsides:
- No notes like opera does. (Can't live without me notes!!)
- Doesn't seem to have option to organize bookmarks.
- Closes if you close all tabs! it messes with my closing-tab-compulsion..

Also, it doesn't have a search box, gotta get used to type stuff in the address bar.

But! upside:
Incognito Windows .. windows without history/cache/cookies .. for paranoids and everyone else (porn users.)

 I'm using it now too. I'm mostly very happy. I like how it manages tabs, and of course all the technical improvements (yay garbage collecting and Javascript VM). The fact that it highlights clearly which element of a form currently has focus is quite awesome. The standards compliance is making me giddy, and the speed at which pages are loading is very, very nice. The incognito features are also awesome.

Critiquing a BETA always seems a little futile to me, so I'll keep it short. All my critiques seem to center around the tab view page thing that it defaults to as a home page (probably just me being stuck in my ways, but I have my homepage set to what it is for a reason). The option to change this is there, but does not seem to take when you open a new tab. May be a bug, may be a feature. Hoping it's the former.

- Doesn't seem to have option to organize bookmarks.

Edit: I actually can kinda get it to work, and it's a little more intuitive than Firefox is after the fact of adding the bookmark.

Edit 2: Missed the option. Nothing to see here

 I'm running it but feeling slightly queasy as I do.
Paranoia ain't gonna subside until I see the buglists completely free of memleak bugs. Friendly comic or no, the design decision to make the end-user a garbage collector by giving us a screen showing us the resources each process is using isn't encouraging. It kind of indicates to me that it's targetting power users which is surprising. Similarly, I thought the comic had a misprint replacing the word threads with processes. But no. Still, I'm a happy managed code fan who doesnt want to have to deal with the pain (\cyber arse eels) that C \ C++ could inflict (and which I've no doubt the Chrome engineers have already felt), so I'm happy to be proven wrong if they can pull it off. Only trouble is that no code is bug free. I just hope for Chrome's sake that whatever bugs they don't spot and fix, they aren't exploitable or incapacitating.

 Ok, was fiddling with a bunch of geek friends. It has skin support built in (the basic skin is a separated DLL.) so apparently it will be possible to get rid of the piece-of-sky-injected-in-your-iris color thing. Eventually.

But apparently there's no built-in system for add-ons, loading/unloading them..etc.. so that may be user-written (which takes a while to work out as a standard.) .. so expect patches for it .. or stand-alone modified versions.

I just need plugins, especially ubiquity (a command line for firefox) and weave (cloud storage and synching of your bookmarks).

 @hmobius

That's a term of service for all of Google's self-created products, not just Chrome (even some of their acquired products, like Blogger, have something similar, but with some extra, very-slightly reassuring conditions on what their license to this stuff entails: http://www.blogger.com/terms.g Section 6). Just a warning for any of you who use Google products regularly and are concerned by section 11 of their Terms of Service/Chrome EULA.

 Wonder how it'll affect the partnership between Mozilla and Google.

I used it all day today. I like how streamlined it is. Though if you're using all the Firefox apps, getting Chrome probably isn't a priority.

I like how Google's taking aim at MS, esp in releasing it right after IE 8. It's almost the antithesis of IE given how spartan it is.

 @twicetold

there is one model for their continuing relationship with mozilla, the situations with GAIM and Google Talk. Google hired one of the primary developers of GAIM, and while he initially kept working on GAIM, they moved him to working on Google Talk. They continue to fund work on GAIM via indirect stuff like Summer of Code and so on, though.

I don't have details on how everything went down though.

 I used it for a couple of hours last night, and have been using it all day today instead of Mozilla. I do dig it. I could see myself switching to it permanently if it ever became meatier in the add-on department.

 @pi8you : Yeah, but Enlightenment v0.17 is still under development.

@collindeplancy : Wish they wouldn't call it Google's Omnibox. It's not as though they borrowed heavily from Opera in its creation. Re; the problems. Google can easily say that as it's a beta, users worried by the security issues should wait for the next update to include fixes from webkit and offload it. Given the speed of their EULA retraction though, they might say something and drive a fix. They could easily get open source developers decrying their promptness as 'taking over webkit' or some such, as they are still in the first week of the first release when zealots and pharisees attempt to micro-analyse everything (me included until this morning) about it without looing at a big picture.

 You guys know that the reason why google is working on Chrome is because they are planning to launch an "online operational system" right?

Which is why they need support to separated processes inside the browser, so when an "online" app crashes, it doesn't take google's entire operational system with it.

Not sure how well that's going to work.

 Caveat: I work at Mozilla so I am biased. I used to work on IE at Microsoft too.

This doesn't affect the relationship between Mozilla and Google in a direct way. As was reported by Mitchell Baker on her blog and in the press, we just inked a three year deal for search revenue a week or so ago. This extended the existing two year deal set to expire this November until November of 2011. Mozilla gets revenue from a number of sources but everyone knows that Google search revenue is a big source and that is guaranteed for three more years.

The issue, from what I can tell, with Mac versions is that the cool process isolation stuff they are doing so only one tab crashes, etc. can't work on the Mac as they've done it on Windows. So they may have released the Windows beta when they did because they could but are blocked on the Mac version by technical issues.
