Built for the 2008 Jersey City Artists Studio Tour by Mark Dalzell, the Steampunk guitar, Organum Insolitus features a television with Fresnel lens magnifier, onboard phaser, an amplifier and uses clockwork gears, hand hammered brass, cloth wire and wood for its making. The freakin’ guitar can also be attached to an external amp via a standard ¼-inch cable, setting up the beastly guitar as game to steam some endless music.

Nantes, the home town of Jules Verne, is situated in western France. Here, near the river Loire a giant deep-sea diver sleeps gently, waiting for his task to begin. Sadness marks his face even as he sleeps. He has been searching the world over for his missing niece and although he may not know it, the end of his search is coming. The diver or scaphandrier as he is known in French will be paraded through the streets of this historic city at the beginning of the Estuary 2009 arts festival. The biannual festival gives the French mechanical marionette street theater company Royale de Luxe the opportunity to unveil their latest creation.

You may already be familiar with the work of Andrew Chase, who has been designing a series of mechanical animals for a picture book called the Trionic Morphatractable Engineer. The cheetah messenger is his latest. A photographer and designer by day, Chase invents anatomically complicated animals out of metal, including elephants, a giraffe, and now this cheetah







Looking down the queue, it was as if everyone stepped out of a Victorian tintype and time traveled to Comic-Con. Steampunk culture is growing in popularity, and Comic-Con has long been a welcome home for its aesthetic and imaginary universe. Hollywood films and Comic-Con fare like "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" (based on Alan Moore's graphic novel), "Steamboy", and the new Tim Burton produced "9", all feature steampunk aesthetics and themes. Steampunks show up at Comic-Con because of this affinity and the opportunity to show off their latest costumes, which draw photographers from every corner of the convention center.

The project -- a trip through a fantastical dystopian Magic Kingdom -- is being headed by former Deus Ex designer Warren Spector, whose studio was acquired by Disney in 2007 (and who explained why this was such a perfect match in an interview with me at the time). The game was first confirmed to exist last December, when similar images were discovered by artist Gary Glover,

The group reported that in trial runs Friday at Edwards Air Force Base in California, the steam-powered, aircraft-like car outpaced the record speed, hitting 211km/h (131mph). That doesn't officially count as breaking the record, however, since representatives of the Federation Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) were not on hand to certify the speed. The FIA will be in attendance for the official record attempts between 18 and 22 August. Still, it was a happy occasion for the British Steam Car Challenge team, which has endured its share of technical and logistical difficulties.

SteamPunk Magazine author (and, honestly, the inspiration for SteamPunk Magazine) Professor Calamity is facing two felonies for allegedly running a twitter account. He has been accused of running a twitter feed of police movements during the Pittsburgh G-20 protests, protests for which the police are already being sued.

To add insult to felony charges, they raided his house in NYC for 16 hours, confiscating everything from hammers to computers to SteamPunk Magazine. Their lawyer has already convinced a judge to put a stop on the police searching of their personal possessions, because the raid is absolutely insane.

And they stood and watched us for hours and hours and hours. 16 hours to be precise, 16 hours of the NYPD and FBI traipsing through our house, confiscating our lives in a fishing expedition related to the G20 protests of September 24th and 25th. The search warrant, when we were finally allowed to read it, mentioned violation of federal rioting laws and was vague enough to allow the entire house to be searched. They kept repeating that we were not arrested, that we were free to go. But being free meant being watched by the FBI, monitored while using the bathroom, not allowed to make phone calls for hours or to observe them ransacking our rooms. Being free meant they took two of us away on bullshit summonses, and even though this was our house, where we lived, if we left, we could not re-enter.

It took 6 months to build using four different crafts persons to design the desk, restore and modify the antiques, and install the computer systems. Included in this all-in-one workstation desk are fully integrated electronics including 3 monitors, computer, printer, scanner and webcam. The horn speakers on either side are installed in cast iron stanchions and modified with modern acoustic suspension drivers.

Our intention is to invoke the patrons’ creativity and participation in a Jules Vern meets Mad Max musical circus extravaganza. Imagine a world of steam power and clever invention; of jugglers and clowns and trapeze; of bands and DJs and dancing. There will be a circus-style midway laced with performers that will lead to the main stage where the musicians and DJs will entice your body to dance till you drop…or laugh till your face hurts! So don your top hats or bowlers, dust off your goggles and set your pocket watches because on May 15th we travel to a realm of mind-blowing, nostalgic fantasy that you’ll never forget.

Just found out that the Tin Man suit was taken and modified into an “Iron Man” suit that won the costume contest at the NY Comic Con by my ex assistant. The suit was changed without my knowledge or permission and I’m royally angered by this action. It’s also sad to see that the only screen used version of the suit that exists, is now a cheapened knock off of a popular character. I don’t get people anymore and it makes me want even more to become more reclusive.
