thank you sir - the intention is to spend 3 or 4 days there and hit as many museums and galleries as possible (whilst also sampling as much local ale as possible).
apparently on the saturday that we are there the museum is hosting a steampunk fashion show. should be a giggle. -

I am completely in love with the crazed costumers and performance troupe that is the League of S.T.E.A.M.
I had an opportunity to shoot with 5 of their members a few months ago, and man, are they awesome. Here are some of the results.
Almost all of their gear is functional (as functional as a film prop anyway) and most of it is interactive. Check out the website for more info, full character bios, and have a peek at their youtube channel for some fun.

I went to the League of STEAM show on Sunday 17 January. The site was interesting as it was cafe/restaurant with only a moderate amount of room for dining parties and at least two bars. Lots of character though, with Victorian-ish decor (not steampunk-y, but still). They didn't get to do much of an actual show because the major space was an open air courtyard and it was raining off and on Sunday, at times quite heavily. Would have gummed up the steamworks.... There was at least one demonstration but I missed it, unfortunately. Otherwise most of the "machinery" was crowded into one room while the League explained and gave a couple of demonstrations in the tiny space. In other rooms ZED and the ghost wandered around and the crowd had to avoid as necessary (ZED occasionally did find his collar loose and start going berzerk until someone called someone from the League over to pry him off a hapless audience member). One other room had articles the League retained from various escapades.
Altogether extremely cool. You can take a look at my 20+ picturesat my concerts gallery, though you may have to scroll past pics from other shows. Here are a few sample photos:

They didn't directly call it a Voight-Kampff machine but they did say it was originated by Drs Voight & Kampff to determine the nature of the person taking the morality test. You strapped in, held onto electrodes and answered hypotheticals meant to see how humane you were while staring into the telescope, presumably hypnotized by target.

I caught the least about the ghost, but I can tell you she glows a soft neon blue, sadly washed out by my camera's flash.
Voight-Kampff technician. His costume is typical for the League, they all work that hard and are that thorough on every detail of their clothes and accessories.

Did anyone here attend the Edwardian Ball in San Francisco this weekend? I only ended up going on Friday as I was working for a vendor there, but it seemed like a really huge event for the subculture. -

Also, I visited the Steampunk exhibition in Oxford on the weekend. It was fun and there was some real nice work on display although I prefer my SP to be a lot less cos-play and a little more design centered (if that makes any sense).

for me though, what really detracted from the exhibition was the setting. With the possible exception of the two beautiful computer keyboards (which were easily my favourite pieces) there was nothing in the steampunk room that could hold a candle to the beauty of the actual real scientific equipment on display elsewhere in the museum. the astolabes and the microscopes were eye candy of the highest order. If you ever get a chance to visit then really do because it's well worth it.
As is the Pitt Rivers anthropology museum which needs a weekend of it's own to even begin to scratch the surface of what's on show. -

i've finally gotten around to getting my oxford photos off my camera.
here's a few snaps of the steampunk exhibition, \n amazing (and real) device for measuring skulls and the totally awesome Pitt Rivers museum of anthropology. i've used the small snaps but there are bigger and more at my flickr page.
