Cheers to Mr Holloway for reminding me about the revamped Pitt Rivers; must get in there soon!

(And I agree about the real instruments in the science museum; terrific - though I still loved the steampunk exhibit)

Wasn't sure where to post this - there was a steampunk event at the Scala (Kings Cross, London) last weekend (sorry, forgot to advertise it here) called "White Mischief" and the BBC has reported on the event.

Was a bit weird to see a photo of my friend in the article on the big ol' BBC :D

There are also some photos here.

There was also a White Mischief event at Proud Cabaret, not sure if that is a regular event or not. They have a website here.

Not sure if this has been posted here before: Dr. Evermor's Forevertron

It sounds like it's part art installation; part theme park and part statue garden.

The Alternative Community has a forum section focused on Steampunk events and discussions. If you're interested in reading it, hopefully this link will work:

NB this link may not be safe from the office as "alternative" here means goth, fetish, body modding, etc. I know it's banned at my workplace :(

Steampunk home-owner’s all-in-one workstation is latest to fall for
It took 6 months to build using four different crafts persons to design the desk, restore and modify the antiques, and install the computer systems. Included in this all-in-one workstation desk are fully integrated electronics including 3 monitors, computer, printer, scanner and webcam. The horn speakers on either side are installed in cast iron stanchions and modified with modern acoustic suspension drivers.

    And here it is!

    i want one!
    i really, really, want one.
    the speakers alone are fantastic.

From Gizmodo - someone made some steampunky 3d goggles. I think it might've been better if the band was done in dark brown or black leather, but that's just my taste.

Made this about a month ago, give or take.
Brass and copper; hammers, saws, and flames.
Hands kind of hurt by the time all was said and done.

    cold hard heart
    (another image for scale reference)
(...actually, not too far off from the size of a premature infant heart...)

It's now hanging in my little cubicle at work...
Didn't get the pulmonaries quite right, and left off the Ao branches, but there's always next time... XD

Sarracenia - "I don't know what inspired you but if it happens again you must let us know"

I work for a medical device company that makes little metal implants to fix damaged and broken hearts.
So that, along with boredom, inspired me.

Took a call today at work from a lady representing 'Green Steam Circus' who was inquiring about us being a vendor a their event. I think my boss is going to go for it, so I might go check it out.

    Green Steam Circus
    The Backyard, Beecaves (Austin) TX
    3:00 pm – Midnight

Welcome to a movement to create a green, interactive festival with a steam punk theme. Our intention is to invoke the patrons’ creativity and participation in a Jules Vern meets Mad Max musical circus extravaganza. Imagine a world of steam power and clever invention; of jugglers and clowns and trapeze; of bands and DJs and dancing. There will be a circus-style midway laced with performers that will lead to the main stage where the musicians and DJs will entice your body to dance till you drop…or laugh till your face hurts! So don your top hats or bowlers, dust off your goggles and set your pocket watches because on May 15th we travel to a realm of mind-blowing, nostalgic fantasy that you’ll never forget.

Pulp iron man in 1920s steampunkified Manhattan.

Haven't read it yet, I'm not sold on it yet, but maybe someone'll enjoy it.

How was your event? Did it turn out well?

    i've read it.
it's basically a riff on The Shadow and Batman. it was ok. a light but a fairly non-stop and entertaining romp that pretty much did it's job for the couple of hours it took to read. the steampunkiness is kept to a minimum - steam powered cars - with a little bit of magic thrown in also - there are golems.
personally i prefer his other steampunk works - Affinity Bridge & Osiris Ritual - but i'll still be picking up the others in this series..
