I'm buying the idea that they keep the rest of the Whitechapelers at least someone both in the dark and distant to themselves, and Alice both doesn't have those hangups -- she'll tell them when they've got a crap idea, obviously -- and that she'd get useful knowledge locked away in her noggin.

As of this date "Freakangel fanfic" is a googlewack - to this thread. That won't last

I have a feeling more of the Whitechapel residents actually know whats going on than they let on.. Keeley's mother (the mom of the girl with the runs) had some choice words to say to Miki.

I like the Alice in Wonderland references too. It would be interesting to see how many more allusions can be made... for example I could see Luke as the Chesire cat in a way, and Karl as the caterpillar.

KK and Connor can be Pig and Pepper ;)
Or is Connor the white rabbit? Or is Mark???
  4.  (3575.25)
Hell no, KK is the Queen of Hearts.

    Or is Kait...?

Maybe KK should be the mad hatter with Kaz as the march hare (re: the drinking scene, hehehe). Then Kait can be the Queen of Hearts :)

You know, I think that might actually work!

Miki could be the Walrus. According to others, she likes to talk of many things...

I AM the Walrus. No, wait, I'm not.

Miki wants to do all the talking.

Does that make Arcady the Dormouse?

You people are going to make me go re-read "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" aren't you?

Okay, based on what I've seen so far, here's my thoughts on which Freakangel is which.

Mark is the White Rabbit, who leads Alice down the hole and rather dislikes her. He has things to do and places to go. And he does not want to be late.

KK is the March Hare, who shares madness (and invention) with Caz.

Caz is the Mad Hatter who is generally believed to be based on Theophilus Carter, at one time a servitor at Christ Church, one of the University of Oxford's colleges. He invented an alarm clock bed, exhibited at the Great Exhibition of 1851, that tipped out the sleeper at waking-up time.

Arkady is the Cheshire Cat, an alternately comforting and frustrating presence who fades in and out as she chooses.

Luke is the Knave of Hearts, going on trial and offering a poor defense.

Sirkka is the Duchess, ruling over her confusing household.

Jack is the Beastly Baby, cared for by the Duchess but who prefers to roam in the wild.

Kirk is the Caterpillar, staying high above the others and asking the difficult questions somewhat rudely.

Karl is the Dormouse wearing his tinfoil hit to stay asleep and apart from the others

Conner is the Gryphon who helps explain the nature of things to Alice and put the others in perspective.

Miki is the King of Hearts who tries to mitigate the damage done.

Kait is the Queen of Hearts, trying desperately to control her world through Justice, even if she's not quite sure what justice is.

    @ Diello

I just gave my take. There's plenty of other interperatations that are equally valid. Besides, I forgot one.

The hole is the world, which everyone fell through.

So would this all imply that in the act of trying to "fit in" with the Freakangels, Alice will ultimately be the source of their downfall? For in the end, while the strange and magical appear to be in control in wonderland, Alice all along and alone holds the key.

    @ izip

Eh... I doubt it, but I suppose it's possible. Freakangels is a branch-off/homage to The Midwich Cuckoos and has nothing to do with Louis Carroll's works. Unless it does and we just haven't gotten to that point yet. Alice is the requisite "stupid person" that everyone has to explain things to so the audience gets background and understands what's going on. The fact that she's a compelling character in her own right is a happy occurrence. It's way too early to focus on one character or the other as being the "key" to anything. Any person believing that a certain character that seems to be "the key" will most likely find that Warren has changed the locks.

    @johnjones

Granted the Midwich Cuckoos have little to do with Alice in Wonderland or Freakangeland, but just as AIW is not the whole story neither is TMC, so we can't dsmiss the relevance of Alice as a character in her own right and not just a foil lens through which to see the Freakangels. As another perspective on why FA is not as simple as an homage to TMC, Warren mentions other works that come into play as well -- my particular favorite is the Jungian reference to The Drowned World and what influence it may have on the destination of Freakangels (see here). But since the discussion has so accurately cast the characters in Louis Carroll clothes, why not let Alice play her part?

By the way, completely off topic, I did a search and found no commentary on this question, which has unfortunately been fixated in my mind for some time -- which United player is Alice wearing?

@ johnjones - When exactly did people stop naming their children Theophilus? And Erasmus and stuff like that?
    Love the summation, btw.

@izip - you know, I don't think we've ever seen her back... She could just be wearing a replica shirt that doesn't have a name and number on it.
