Sad. Probably the first band I consumed voraciously. His work was an integral part of the band (well, until The Wall). I will definitely be spinning some Dark Side and Animals tonight...
I've been listening to Dark Side... since I was 11. I was always more into the stuff from that album onwards, so I think this hit closer to home for me than when Barrett died.
Sadness. Pink Floyd were the band that ignited my love for Guitar. When I was little, I'd listen to the guitar solo from Comfortably Numb, wishing I could learn to play :) Strange that yesterday I picked up my guitar in the first time for months and wrote something small.
It's a shame I will never see Pink Floyd (with Wright at least) on stage. Seeing Roger Waters was something that I will always remember, but I always wanted to see Pink Floyd. I was happy with their short reunion, I thought that would lead to a tour or something.
It's a damn shame. Even though I love all of the Pink Floyd albums for their own merits, and was sad when Sid died, this one stings a little more. Rick always added those little flourishes and the deep richness I loved in so many of their songs. "The Great Gig in the Sky" is far and away my favorite song on Dark Side of the Moon, and ranks as one of my top Floyd songs in general (Just behind "Wish You Were Here" and tied or a little ahead of "Echoes", I think).
