My name's John Fiala. I play with information for a living.
Right now, I do that by helping folks build interactive websites, using an open source web framework named Drupal. There's a good amount of need of help with it, because although there's a lot of power there that doesn't require programming, sometimes folks need help with the last bit of functionality that's unique to them. As such, there's currently a good amount of demand for what I can do, which means I'm doing well financially.
For fun I surf the web, read, learn new programming languages, and the like - currently I'm teaching myself a new DB called couchdb, for instance.
For some reason I collect bookmarks on my computer and Whitechapel disappears. I never have time after reading FA on Fridays to post and my memory ranks dead last behind that of a dead weasel.
My name is MontiLee and I write disturbing things that amuse me, and every once in a while small press digests. I also write novels every November and I then spend several months feeling dirty about the act.
To keep a roof over my head, I work as in global trade logistics as an exports trade analyst on our hi-tech hybrid team. Yes, it sounds terribly important.
I chase information. I investigate truths, half-truths, and lies. I take what I find and fit it into a puzzle that looks like what I think went down. Next...I tell some people about it, and then I convince them to see it my way. In a perfect world justice prevails.
Sometimes I'm good at it.
Sometimes I'm not.
I'm an attorney...with a list of things I'd rather be doing on any given day...love the diversion that is Whitechapel. Thanks.
My name is Will and I write and design things. I designed the cover and interior for Wil Wheaton's Memories of the Future, for example. If you have things you need written or designed, I am probably available — work's been pretty slow lately.
Hello. Courtesy of the GFC (I was told this when they told me contract not going to be extended) I am an out of work geologist. So, currently on an unwilling sabbatical - and a student - until metal prices go back up.
Hi, I play and transform words - I'm English/Spanish/Portuguese translator. I currently work in a company which exports products to automotive companies around the world. I create/translate user manuals, advertising, e-mails and talk with foreign customers as well. I also teach languages to lost souls and dumb people(sometimes there are cool people too) who thinks that learn English is cool to various things, including sing Britney Spears, watch Gossip Girl without subtitles, travel to Disney or get a better job. Now I'm learning Italian. I'm trying start my studies in Arabic and Russian languages. =)
I've worked in and around Publishing in some form throughout my life. Newspapers, books, magazines, editing, production, writing. Right now I'm an assistant production manager at an educational publisher.
In the past I've co-edited some comics, most notably "Shooting War" by Dan Goldman & Anthony Lappe.
I've also done some freelance comic scripting. Adapting Tom Sawyer, The Odyssey & a few others to be published.
i'm just a creepy little lurker watching eerily while little meatheads play and say things they should not say while i sleepily wonder what it would be like to suck their brains. my lips churn grimly while my teeth grit and tear the flesh of my face through which now a proboscis pokes that is not of man but of fly. i am f1yb0y! Shivver and cower seminal fluid sacks, you are all fly meat! Oh and I like gods, fictional or otherwise, and Arkady! who might be a god! I like the teachers, the builders, the searchers and I fear the army! Superb work Mr. Ellis, your writing is superb. Mr Duffields art sets the scene beatfifully. I often wonder down to Forbidden Planet and pages through the trades and look forward to buying the whole lot and voriaciously sucking it all up from beginning to end in a few sinful weeks (possibly weekend)! But especially, Mr Ellis, I thoroughly enjoy your work in all it's form and your imagination and I look forward to what you will bring us with FA. I'm off to find my penis.
what im trying to do for a living is sell stories, poems, photography prints and paintings. but i am 22 and only just beginning to get the tiniest and mostly insignificant bit of exposure. it's somewhat disheartening. but i knew it would be like this so i have only myself and that bastard Man Ray to blame for all these meals of instant macaroni and gruel.
what i actually do for money is, at the moment, beg relatives while i search for a day job for the fourth time this year. in the past five years i have worked at three pizza places, one bar, a coffee shop, a cookie bakery, a high-end restaurant, have been an insurance sales telemarketer, an inbound customer service rep for the US army's insurance co, a survey taker, the head assistant to two departments at a small college, and the worthless bitch of a retail giant. this on top of being a student, working small freelance art gigs, and attempting to breed forth into the Erf the shit i actually want to be creating.
oh and if someone has a job in austin, tx, please let me know what it is, where you live, and what you are mortally allergic to. i would not go this route, but it seems the only way to get a good day job in this burg.
I'm just about to start a new job, it comes with an office, expense account, flexi time and good holidays and pension. Credit crunch what credit crunch?
