Ok. Because I am a busy guy (/bull) Ok, because I'm largely uninterested/ing I've never really used RSS feeds, tending to rely on forums etc to inform me whats new when I go look at them. Because I'm trying to get out of my Torpor, I started investigating this. I'm using Firefox for my feeds, but its not clean and its beginning to bug the shit out of me. What desktop readers would anyone recommend?

I used to use bloglines and now I use google reader - like rickyp00h, I run off a iGoogle page so where ever I am, I have access to my feeds - and it has some pretty neat features (sharing links with notes, for one) and a fairly clean and quick load of my mumblemumble odd feeds.

I contemplated a desktop reader but because I am often online for long periods of time away from home, having something web-based is best. Are you always going to be using your home computer or different ones? i might poll my fellow librarians - we're all rss junkies (in our sector, it's one of the best ways to track what the Uk parliament is up to...) and I know we've got a mix of desktop and web-based users.

I did contemplate using Netvibes, because I can log onto that anywhere, I currently only need it on one PC. The problem I found currently is that I don't "lose" links I've read, they just hang about. I'm currently bartering for a new phone, and if I can get one thats half internet capable, it'd be nice to start utilising this stuff on that. I've not used any of Googles stuff since they got bad press over using Gmail for ads, and shut down my blog and everything else, for fear of being advertised at.

Opera's built in feed reader is the only one for me! 60-70 feeds all coming into the sidebar, with each update treated like a little mail message, heavily filtered into the appropriate categories, and even some sub-filtering for the all-important Tosho feed. All of which lets me be distracted/lazy and let some things build up until I'm at a point where I just decide to burn through all of a given category. My only wish is that it were a little more portable, but otherwise its been completely perfect.
