My 15 1/4 or whatever inch laptop fits in it fine, as does my slightly oversized sketchbook of about the same size. iN FACT... it can fit both at the same time. I have not tried shoving BOTH laptops and the sketchbook in it, however.

Got mine today, and I'm pretty stoked about it.

Have to test out the theory that the strap it came with is way too short for me to use it properly by taking it for a spin tomorrow. This is a common complaint of most bags I buy though, and nothing a trip to the army/navy store can't fix for this one I think. Being a rather large individual, with a long torso on top of my portly stature, and liking to wear my bag at hip height causes problems. Strap seems to be a good foot and a half to two feet two short.

Otherwise it's freaking awesome.

HP Pavilion 17", with room to spare for all the stuff I use. Charger for computer/phone/palm, various connection cables, 50' ethernet cable, backup lacie hard drive, and a couple manuals etc to boot. Surprisingly roomy in there.

Just found the tattoos. I'm gonna have to put them all on tonight, cause if my kids see them, its all over.

oh boo, pencil slots and not a funcky pair of pockets on the outer pouch, ah well...

And even with all that in the bag, my camera, DS, and PSP all fit in the pouch comfortably, and there's still a few inches on the end for cans of Red Bull or whatnot, plus just enough room to squeeze in the tripod and an umbrella up top. Huzzah!

Should be getting my camera back tomorrow. My niece is trying to join the 6th grade school newspaper and had to take some shots for a collage. Thought it was a good cause, and really didn't expect it to get here this quick. Posting as soon as I get it back.

I must add that it was like a birthday coming home from a horrible day today! One of those jobs where everything goes wrong, I was still in the customer's house as they were getting kids ready for bed, with an hour and a half still to drive home. So this was (and I know this sounds a little overblown) probably the highlight of the day. Actually, the last two weeks or so, but who's counting. It worked. I'm ready for a new day tomorrow, well equipped.

Took the bag out for a walk today; already planning some (FOR SHAME) modifications because I'm not wholly content with the color... Still can't find the chord to hook up my celly to the pc to port photos I took of it in the coffeeshop....

My listing of bag abuse to come includes: Removing dye selectively from the WHITE in white chapel, and possibly along other areas, and along the shoulder pad. Toying with the idea of applique or embroidered accents; than waterproofing.

I take back the comment about the strap... wore it to work today laden down with various books and other sundry items and it sits at a very comfortable height, admittedly with the strap stretched out as long as it can be. Another thing I really love about it is that the shoulder pad bit on the strap doesn't move like it does on my other bag, so it remains comfortable to wear no matter how much I shift it.

Will have to test a maximum load in in it later, I just threw what I needed for the day in it today. Front pocket is the perfect size for my sketch book and materials too, which makes me happy. :-)

I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume that the Whitechapel bags were a test-run of a product, to see if there was enough of a market for them, to see how well and quickly and to what quality the mass-produced items could be made, as well as to see how much of a want there was for suck a product; and how well the bags held up. I'm guessing that, if all's well with the bags, there might not be more Whitechapel bags, but instead ones of other designs (Dr.Sleepless, FA, etc) as the bags are marketed more towards the general public and not to merely a board-hopping fanbase (meaning no slight but... while we are a large group there are fans out there who aren't hooked in to the internet and whatnot).

I'd guess that sales of such bags would probably be around major hollidays, to hook gift-givers, or possibly around the start of the school year, to catch college students and whatnot looking for new bags to haul their crud around in that would also display some sense of individualism. I also wouldn't be surprised if they were all smaller run deals, as there is more of a limit to the amount of bags people would buy, versus t-shirts or sweaters, which would be easier to sell multiples of.

a few weeks prior to ordering the whitechapel bag i had ordered a doktor sleepless t shirt,shot glass, and issue #1 poster edition signed by mr. ellis. those came in the mail yesterday and much to my surprise the bag was also in the box! that made my day. the bag is cooler than i had envisioned. avatar is way ahead of the other publishers as far as offering fans unique items. maybe it's because they ask what we want and deliver. it can be profitable to care about the readers.

I was woken up by the postman after a *horrendous* nightshift, consequently I had no idea what was in the package as I have a 'fire and forget' memory at the best of times.

A rather lovely bag, and the design of the logo doesn't automatically shout 'comics nerd' which can be handy.

The only thing that annoys/confuses me is the divider that isn't stitched into the base of the bag, I've never understood why people do that - it just means all the random little stuff I have in my bag goes rolling about.

But yes, it's now my new favourite bag.

Took the advice of you folks and sprayed my bag with waterproofer. It's curing at the moment; in 24 hours or so I'll let folks know how it turned out.

If this works out, my next project is to waterproof EVERY OBJECT I OWN, just for the pure mad prak of it all. And so I don't waste the rest of that can of waterproofer.

In the continueing exploits of "what the hell is happening to my bag" I just got a phone call from my mother (who had kindly let me use her credit card to reorder the bag after the first payment got declined) telling me that the credit card company had phoned her regarding what they percieved as fraudulent activity on ther card (not the whitechapel bag I don't think, but something else) but they also informed her that because of the fraud which actually wasn't fraud at all, they had cancelled any payments after that, which included the bag. Some external force seems to be trying to stop me getting this bag, but hopefully not. I just emailed the guys (and girls) at comic cavalcade informing of them of what happened, and that the payment might get declined, so hopefully I can get this sorted out and get my bag...

The strap doesn't bother me at all, but maybe it's because I'm a pretty short guy or something. I love the bag, it makes not having a car a lot easier.

the strap thing isn't just the length, its the thickness, the way the couplings spin so that the stresses shift to a weaker point, the fact that you would need to watch how much you put in it.

I've been wearing it out and about and today I went to a huge sculpture park in the countryside outside the city. Hiking up higher and higher into the hills of Hokkaido I found an Antony Gormley sculpture Shaft 2, which frankly was too good an opportunity to miss:

Yeah, as you can see I had to change the strap, it was just pissing me off. Otherwise, a fantastic, fantastic purchase.

Finally retrieved it. Been a long time since I picked up slow mail. So quaint. Will make a picture soon.

It's not so much the quality of the straps as the feel. I can see they're sturdy enough. But they feel too flimsy. And I'm familiar with the weird attachment design with all the weight on the weak point. Textbook useless. You'd think using it would be a mark of shame in the designer community by now. :) Finding a replacement won't be difficult, though.

Thanks, it was bloody heavy but much more capacious (is that a word?) than the bag I'm used to using. The Reeses tin is full of patch leads and power leads unfortunately, not peanutty goodness. And the bubble wrap protects the Kaossilator, which I reckon, yes, is probably the coolest thing I could carry around in my bag. But funnily that was probably the lightest thing in there that night.

Now, if I could be carrying around a Kaossilator and a Tenori-on...
