really nice opening panel this week.... nice resolution to the "cliff hanger" of last week and quite revealing into the whole group.

Good week this, this week. Got out from the editing to suite to help shot a spoof tv commercial I suggested (Made a joke/suggestion last week and we were shooting it this the speed at which my new job works)
Also going to be a groomsman tomorrow, so I'll be drunk for the first time in over 2 days!

I think it was referring to an attraction in Vegas, where there's a fountain that shoots random bursts of water into the air on the sidewalk.

A comment from the perverse inre: fountains. I think the reference is to the computer-controlled jets of water that they have as sculpture/fountains in various cities (Chicago, Vegas, et al.) Basically the water shoots out in a timed fashion so one stream appears to be, for example, jumping from place to place on the ground, or creating different geometric shapes, or what have you. Considering that she mentions it's only the boys, we can deduce that there's some pretty interesting "fountain" impressions going on. I laughed really hard at that panel.

I liked the interaction between mother and doctor. I think the panel after they left was just heartbreaking. Paul's skies during the Alice scene were fantastic. I also liked the very smooth vomiting panel. Hiding that bit of grossness. For some reason I just don't like drawn vomit. No one seems to make it convincing. What better way than to hide it?

This week was big. I had my first test/exam of the semester, which I got a high B on without having actually attended class save for like 3 or 4 days, I had a huge 3D modeling project that I THINK I did well on, and, probably most importantly, we found out that my wife got her Indiana job, which means that we have to move to Fort Wayne at the end of the year. Exciting times, considering. If I can actually get an office in our new apartment, I'm actually going to start seriously writing. Like, quit-your-day-job style. I can't right now; my office is the living room, and with a two-year-old, that's not conducive to a good work ethic.

Of course, all of my friends and family are here. We have no friends nor relations in Indiana. So that should be nerve-wracking. But exciting!

EDIT Wow... a quick burst (heh) of fountain commentary...

@reynolds i would take the vegas reference to be to before the floods, and be a reference to some kind of show they saw together, in which there is an act she has her harem imitating for her pleasure.

Yeah, my point being that this isn't just London that flooded and that *something* happened to (at least) Vegas - I don't know the geography, but isn't Vegas a bit unlikely to be flooded, at least given the fairly small amount of water that has only half flooded London.

Or maybe they aren't on Earth anymore...

@Reynolds Vegas is an average of 2000ft above sea level (about 600 metres, I believe, although my conversion might be wrong.) So I doubt the water is much of a problem there. But considering a fairly large part of the world's population and infrastructure lives on or near coastlines, we can probably assume that any disaster mean enough to permanently raise the water level in London to a respectable level is probably going to fuck up how the world works pretty much forever.

Also, I think the fountain bit was a joke, Sirkka ribbing Jack a little bit. Playfully planting jealousy seeds.

reaction to first panel only: whoa! nice set up... totally unexpected payoff! I mean... did ANYONE see that coming?

    ... back to the episode...

I know! I saw the panel in my RSS feed and I was like "Must go NOW."

yes, ok, the reference is to a fountain in vegas, but my point is that just because someone makes a reference to vegas doesn't mean that they went to vegas after the flood. given that if there is a disaster world wide, it seems more likely that they did not go to vegas for shits and giggles after it hit the fan, rather, it seems more than likely they went there before the shit hit the fan. it just seems to make sense.

Poor little girl: Miki no lookie happy.

Great effect in the first panel, and I agree: it makes for a particularly sweet RSS Window, to boot.

quick temperature check before I rush off to start my day: I'm with the "Miki healed with FreakAngels powers" group. think that's the most plausible solution given the evidence. and I'm in the "Hoping Syrrka's Vegas fountain references refers to some novelty of manipulating ejaculants" camp, which I'm hoping we never have to see, but the thought of which throughly amuses me.

Did Luke get the FreakCave call? I'm sure he did, though we didn't see it. Like I said two weeks ago, I smell an awkward dinner scene coming. Of course, it make take us another couple of weeks to actually make it to said Cave... but we'll have plenty to speculate about in the meantime.

    @Professor Imagine
"Hoping Syrrka's Vegas fountain references refers to some novelty of manipulating ejaculants"

    That's what I think she's referring to.

And what if the building shown on page 3, bottom right panel is the Cave?

I haven't gotten past the first frame yet. I just wanted to make a comment on how freakin' fantastic the first panel is all by itself....

Really can´t wait to see what happans in the cave, and I fear that it´ll feel like forever before we get to see it.

Keep up the good work :)

I enjoy the storms, but I love these quiet moments.

Another reason Freakangels is on my favourite free things list.

Yeah, I never took the "Freak Cave" comment literally. It's probably a warehouse or basement somewhere where they can all have some privacy to discuss... what next.

Well, mommy dearest just stuck an entire salt shaker into the guilt-wound, huh? And without even realising it. Who knew you could convey anguish so well facing a person's back?

It just struck me now that there are some significant similarities between Jack & Sirrka's relationship, and Mike/Trix's in CLV, with the sharing problem. Only J&S haven't been able to find a way to make it work. Not in the long-term, anyway.

And oh, that crazy Luke. He's about to be stupid again, isn't he?

    Brilliant, as usual.

I'm operating on three hours of sleep. Of course, I've run on less. Just not recently. Drove my little sis to the airport in the wee (weeeeeeee) hours of the morning, drove my grandmother to the optometrist later (she had cataract surgery yesterday, just a check-up today). I am Family Taxi Driver.

@Reynolds @richiep00h Vegas is one giant floodplain though. I remember one CES people were chest high in mud. Imagine if a dam "up" from it the area fails.
    • CommentTimeSep 26th 2008

Yes, but if the world sea level rises by 30 feet, it's still not going to affect Las Vegas. That's my point.

a lot of people are assuming that it was just flooding. if they 'changed' the world, most of that would be achieved easiest by flexing some faultlines.

Beautiful addition, really like Miki. I agree that it's most likely she actually tweaked something with her gifts, then gave the pills so there was a more logical "cure".

I think it's interesting to assume that the rest of the world is merely flooded, btw. We really don't know what happened yet. The flooding may be somewhat unique to the area. I'm not saying the rest of the world is fine, but what if something else is wrong. They keep saying they "ended the world", that could mean quite a few things, including wastelands or places simply missing (given the supernatural nature of things they've already done). Does the world exist, in it's own broken fashion, beyond the area? The other question in my mind is, do they even know? Have they explored beyond the region? Are they assuming when they say they ended the world? How "wide" can Arkady really see? How far has KK flown? (okay that's several, interwoven questions) I'm sure there are clues (no internet, radio, or television broadcasts...) that the world outside isn't normal, but I want to know if they've actually seen everything.

Keep up the great work Warren!
