Whitechapel tends to be early-adopting (and we are all about the twitter). Is anyone using 12seconds? It's been mentioned before but I see no threads - for those not in the know it's to video what twitter is to text.

It's in alpha so there are problems with anything except the most direct applications, but it's fun and has yet to hit popularity-induced-heart-attack. I'm having fun seeing moments with friends who've been nothing but text for a long time. So if you're on there, launch yourself into moving pictures for people here.

I have an account, but *barely* used (crap vids really); I refuse to fully embrace it until I can reliably get videos sent from my phone uploaded in order to make it practical for daily use. But in the meantime, I'm watching!

It's a nice idea, but on the whole it's like youtube blogs, I don't see how a video of someone in their bedroom talking to their webcam is better than just writing it in a blog. Fair enough if you're actually putting up videos of interesting visual things, or you take your camera out to places, but for those people on there just videoing themselves at home, just use Twitter, it's quicker.

@liquidcow That's exactly why I'm looking here. Twitter is crap for people who use it as some kind of menu-archival service, in the hopes that future society will depend on their pizza:doritos ratio, but I'm very interested to see what happens when people start to use it right.

I have an account, but also barely use it. This is probably because I don't really want to use it as a me talking into the camera inside the house blog, and the problem is that I forget to bring my Flip camera when I'm out and see cool images. There's also the process of cutting the clips down to 12sec. which takes some time. Although, I'll probably get faster the more I do it.

Does this not, in a way, remind people of Pattern Recognition?

    (sorry for double posting)

Does anyone who has an account with this thing know if or how you can upload videos from a file? It seems to only let you record directly from your webcam or other video source... Or email from your mobile phone. I suppose you could email a clip from your computer but isn't there a simpler way?

I don't like 12seconds. Seesmic is far better IMO. What if you want to talk longer than 12 seconds? I use sees to also be able to privately chat to others via webcam as well. Plus you can upload stuff with their website.

Yeh since I signed up for an account I've realised it's really a dumb idea. They have this thing of 'anything longer is boring', but that's clearly not even remotely true. I've tried to do some interesting things with it but 12 seconds is just too short. 30 seconds perhaps, but not 12. Don't think I'll use it in future.
