This is such an intelligent, well-thought-out group that I'd like to know about your tattoos - whether you've actually gotten them yet or are just thinking.
How did you decide? What do they mean to you? Has the meaning changed? How did you pick your tattooist? Etc.
I'll share mine after I've seen if there's any interest in such a discussion. -

I just got my first tattoo a couple of weeks ago. A telling symbol of my beliefs and what makes me, me. Though it's not finished yet.

I don't have any tattoos, but ever since I learned there was tattoo ink that only shows up under blacklight, I can't shake the idea of getting one or two. The idea of an invisible tattoo is very appealing to me, but I'm waiting to hear if the ink is unhealthy.

No pics right now, but I have;
Left bicep - Rose-Croix (white rose with a single black petal on red Templar cross) with 'Honi Soit Qui Mal Y Pense' below it,
Right bicep - stylised eye-in-the-pyramid in blue, yellow and black,
Middle of chest - three small green asterixes (* * * - not the Gaul!)
I am considering an Erzulie vévé on my ass.
All picked for various elements of my life and somewhat deliberately obscure. Oddly, the chest one - the least flashy and smallest of my ink - gets the most attention when seen. It's from a John Varley story called 'The Persistence of Vision'.
Of course now I'm thinking about Spider Jerusalem's views on tatts... -

Thinking about getting Huggin and Munnin on my right trapezius muscle, but I have a strict idealogy regarding tattoos, naming that I want to be certain I want the tattoos there forever, and have a 5 year determination period. So if I still want it in 3 years, I might get it.

I've been told that this ink goes brown after a few years if it's regularly exposed to sunlight, and can also be quite itchy. -
I've been giving a lot of thought lately to having a massive Yggdrasil tattooed on my back. However, I will be requiring both a quality artist to help me come up with the finalized image and a trusted tattoo artist to actually ink it. Also probably several hundred dollars...
A little while ago I saw a proposed idea for creating tattoos that move, which is something that, while nonexistent currently, I would probably have done if possible. Also: If I could get a bluetooth-ready RSS feed tattoo on my forearm, I would get that as well. -

Not an option. Shaved is my preferred look, and I grow my hair out for no man, and precious few women.

If I see one one more goddamned oriental ideagram on the lower back of some tramp working at a deli, I might just get very, very annoyed. Beware, tramps.
I often consider getting a tattoo but, while I would only get one if meaningful to myself, I do have a tendency to go through phases, so they generally rule themselves out after a while. -

I have about 35 hours of work, and another 11 appointments booked. My left leg is covered from the knee down, and my toes, right foot and right knee are done. Bookings are for my chest, then stomach, then back...basically, full torso coverage is the goal.
Ferburton: Custom or flash? Don't know if it's the photo, but some of that linework looks a bit dodgy... -
Almost all of my tattoos are insect-related. I have a sleeve of comic book insects on my left arm, an anatomical sketch of an earwig from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign entomology archives on my right forearm, a little cockroach with a television for a head that was the mascot of a media collective I was part of when I was 19 on my left leg, and (the only one I have a quality photograph of) a fucking ginormous silverfish that covers the entire back of my torso.

Yeah, I have a problem with commitment, so head tattoo was the way to go. Wouldn't call it invisible though, since I've had a mohawk for years.

If I got a tattoo, I think I'd want The Fool on the back of my hand, to keep me honest with myself. I've been wanting it for about a year, so we'll see if it sticks longer and then I might get it.
Pygmy, why insects? Not that the silverfish doesn't look amazing, but it's quite an odd theme to cover your body in. Is there a story behind it? -

When you are an old lady in the nursing home the orderly's will think you are awesome!
Bug's are not for me but I totally understand the theme. My friend was into dinosaurs and has
a HUGE triceratops on his chest.
Every time the subject of tattoos comes up I give a moment of thanks for the time I decided to spend my money on beer instead of getting
SKINHEAD tattoo'd on my knuckles. Dodged a bullet on that one.
Alexis should totally get extra points for a Warren Ellis related SPIDER tat. I also really dig the sideburns. They ad a bit of flair to a hawk.
My friend has a prison tat of a toe tag around his toe.
I always liked the big stars tat and thought a blood type tattoo would be very practical.
If I ever get married I may get the rings tattooed instead. Probably a celtic design like a real wedding ring. I would like to hear opinions on this one? -

A tattoo wedding ring sounds certainly novel, and you'll never lose it in the shower drain or garbage disposal. If your spouse is cool with it, you should design each other's tattoos, as the equivalent to buying one another's rings.
On top of that, at the wedding the ring bearer might be a punked-out tat artist, administering the bonds of love right there on the altar. And that's pretty cool. -
