New week's releases are up at http://www.piccadillyrecords.com - just choose a genre from left and click "magic mix" to stream excerpts from the new releases.
Ariana usually swings by Largehearted Boy's Try it before you buy it posts on Tuesday mornings, too.
This week, it's all about the Joker and the Zomby. Mixage to follow on the other thread... at some point. Heavy 8-bit dubstep with ominous crunk leanings.
Currently enjoying the Recommended Sampler 1982 CD reissue (from Recommended Records). So many weird and wonderful tunes. Now that's classic rock!
Meanwhile, last night...

@mark barter - I'm a huge fan, and I have a hard time picking favorites. However.. 'Laugh? I Nearly Bought One!' (a 80s era best-of) and 'For Beginner's' (more recent covering the same era as Laugh.. without repeats trackwise a companion-of-sorts) are a couple decent starters. They fail to cover any post '88 material however. If you like live releases there is XXV Gathering: Let Us Prey - which is a 25th anniversary live show covering up to at that time current material. Jaz vox sounds a bit rough on that however. For regular suggestions of albums I'd grab Killing Joke (1980) [not the 2003, yellow clown cover, that's different..) , Night Time (1985) as a 80's recommendation, Panademonium 1992, and their newest studio release Hosanna's From the Basements of Hell. Which isn't a comp, but almost sounds like one songwriting wise. They do a little bit of 'everything' on it.
Went to a local charity festival's last night this week and saw a whole lot of local artists that one would probably struggle to find on the internet beyond a Myspace.
Three of the best:
Vessels - a big sounding post-rock, vaguely Isis-with-punk mix of aggression and serenity.
Fran Rodgers - a solo songwriter with slide and acoustic guitar, cleverly using loop pedals to sing and play quiet, sad songs along with herself.
Ólafur Arnalds - only non-local I saw, as far as I know. An Icelander with a dry wit and a string quartet backing up his brittle piano melodies and occasional jerking beats.
Currently listening to The Rosie Taylor Project's This City Draws Maps, and still loving the Middle Class Rut tune Zane Lowe drops every damn night.
look what i did- minuteman for the moment look what i did- demos (which you can listen to some of them here; if you like, i probably have the authority to send you everything they've ever recorded) vinny vegas- s/t ep (baltimore band i saw live the other night) skinny puppy- greater wrong of the right skinny puppy- doomsday (a live album of some sort) ohgr- sunnypsyop faith no more- this is it: the best of... tub ring- the great filter
ive been listening to a band called Hellveto quite a lot last few days. its basically just one guy in Poland producing this awesome epic pagan black metal. Don't really listen to much Pagan metal normally but this is fucking awesome.
Other bands currently disturbing other people on the bus include : Taake - new album is pretty good, kinda Darkthroney BM Genghis Tron - literally can't stop listening to them, awesome tech as fuck cybergrind Iron Monkey - classic groovey stoner doom from up north Bohren und Der Club of Gore - new album - seeing them at ATP in December, well excited.
