OK, no one has actually seen a full album - just a track listing, but Axl Rose has actually released a single to radio no less. The first original material in 15 years. And spin.com have a streaming version of it. And it doesn't entirely suck. Hell hath officially frozen over and mtv have officially hit the nail on the head with the problems the album faces if it is indeed released on Nov 23. But in the mean time, I'm excited - anyone else?

Track is called Chinese Democracy, heard it on XFM today. It is a cool little rock anthem.
Apparently the album cost $30 million to produce. Hmm, even if that is a wild exaggeration I still find this notion of excess spending on big budget film and music production to be morally reprehensible in this day and age. -

I heard the track last week, and it really doesn't sound like them at all. Not like their well-known commercial megahits, certainly, and if it wasn't them, it would never get anywhere near the widespread airplay its been getting. This is definite heavy metal. Possibly a pre-NWOBHM flavour, but still metal. None of this pansy November Rain soft-except-for-a-guitar-solo business...
It was good, but it didn't win me back. I stopped listening to them awhile back for a reason, which this hasn't cured. -
@cjstevens: Seems to have cost so much because Axl's probably re-recorded it seven or eight times before this one (gripped with self-doubt I imagine). Not that $30m would make him even bat an eyelid.
Personally I wait with interest to see exactly who played on what. He's hired so many session musicians over the years I wonder if anyone has managed to keep a track of it all. The guitar noodling at the end sounded like Buckethead but with a couple of pick-up tricks I've not heard him do before. I guess we'll see.
Josh Freese is leaving Nine Inch Nails at Christmas. Wonder if he's joining GnR for their tour? -

More like 7, but Rose would prefer that we all forget that horrid track from End of Days.
Axl Rose has spent over a decade trying to make a NIN/Prince album. Unfortunately he lacked the technical skills and sanity required to pull it together and we’ve got a mishmash of stuff cobbled together with some major label polish rubbed on top. Given the state of the last batch of leaked tracks, that polish with either turn it into multi-platinum genius or be the nail in the coffin. -
Sorry, heard the 'single' and it's bad. No hook at all. Not even a singable chorus. Bleh. I don't mind that he wanted to do something else, but he shoulda just done it. Popped it out under another project name, even solo album. To sit and wait and do nothing while your fanbase just waits to the point they no longer give a shit isn't bright. All I want is my Dr. Pepper. =/

Axl Rose was one of my heroes growing up. I was 6 when my parents took me to a G'n'R concert, and I remember thinking he was some terrifying demon. Like some animal they let out of the cage to come scream at the audience. I grew up with Appetite For Destruction. It was a constant soundtrack to my life. The 'rents always had it blaring on the weekends or camping trips.
I got older. I got into Tom Waits/Nick Cave/The Beatles/Stooges/Bowie/Dylan/Astor Pizzola/you get the point. I forgot about G'n'R. For a while I would of even denied ever liking G'n'R at all. Dismissing them as a silly relic of a silly era. Something akin to Skid Row or Motley Crue. but I was wrong, because they aren't like those bands at all. They were genuine. The Real McCoy. Unpretentious, loud, snaggletoothed progeny of Rose Tattoo, ACDC, Motorhead, The Stones and the better parts of early Aerosmith. The Great American Rock Band.
Like Mickey Rourke, I was hoping that Axl would be able to pull off some miraculous comeback. That, Botched face and all, he would come back and reclaim some dignity. I'm not an idiot, I wouldn't expect him to release SMILE or anything, just a decent, solid, hard rock effort would suffice.
But no. This is terrible. It sounds cheesy, clean, and super polished. Like bad industrial nu-metal crap. Its painfully out of touch. I doubt the rest of the album will be any good, if this is the lead in single. It seems like he's too worried about chasing relevance as opposed to writing good songs. Oh well. Bummer. -

For the amount of money that's been pumped into this album, it has to be the greatest piece of music ever made to make it all worthwhile for Axl. I actually prefer the leaked demo version of this track. It didn't sound so overly produced.
Out of a sense of nostalgia, I will check this out next month. But I'm going in with such unbelievably low expectations. -
Even if it IS the greatest piece of music ever recorded, it will completely fail to live up to the expectations of the die-hard GNR fans.

I'm not impressed and I'm not hopeful at all for the rest of the album. They were for a few years the greatest rock band in the world, Appetite for Destruction is a classic HOF album. Even the Use Your Illusion albums were good and would have been great if they had cut out the fluff and made it one album (really, you need to have 2 versions of 'Don't Cry'? and a call out song for every critic that panned GnR?) then Axl managed to get rid of the rest of the band, takeover the name and it because the Axl Rose project and, frankly, without Izzy and Slash writing songs, I will be suprised if it is even halfway listenable.
it will be a miracle if it is anything but the final nail in the coffin and after spending $30million on it I highly doubt any record label will allow him a blank check again.
it's sad because had his ego not gotten in the way GnR could have been the greatest rock band ever, as it is they are going to be remembered as having 1 great album and an egomaniacal singer that screwed it up. -
I think calling this thing a GnR record would be like Robert Plant calling one of his solo albums "Led Zeppelin".
As weird as it is that Buckethead is on this thing, I still think it is way stranger that Tommy Stinson of The Replacements has been listed as being a member of Guns 'n Roses since 1998. Growing up listening to The Replacements in the 80s at the same time GnR hit big, I would have never believed that those two lines would have crossed. -

Or like Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones and Jason Bonham calling whatever the hell they're doing 'Led Zeppelin' - like they ARE doing! -

What expectations? Those expectations were shattered when the second Velvet Revolver album proved that the three good tracks on the first albums were just a fluke. Axl can’t record a damned decent song without the band. The band can’t write a damned decent song with Axl. The fans gave up long ago…
