I plan on appearing at our company Halloween party as "Attacked by a John McCain Supporter." The costume itself (black eye & backwards "J" makeup) will be dead easy. I'm working on my script now; something about being jumped by a middle-aged white guy on my way out of the bank, where I was trying to keep them from foreclosing on my mortgage. He just wanted my money, but when he noticed the Obama '08 sticker on my Prius, the guy went into a rage and drew a "J," for "McCain," on my face.
That sounds likely, doesn't it?

I'm in a haunted house. This year I will be playing the part of an alien butcher. (the whole thing is alien themed). I have a room that has body parts hanging from the ceiling and buzzing fly sounds. It's more of a creepy type room than a shout boo and scare the poop out of people.

Halloween wedding celebration! Friends of mine are getting married in a club that's rented out by Wiccans - long story. So, ceremony, meal, then in come the dancing masses to celebrate this holy day. We'll be partying it up there, then possibly moving on depending on how drunk we get.

It's a Vampire Masquerade theme, and my boy got himself a Venetian Cyrano mask. I, however, got sick this week and after missing work too much certainly can't buy a fancy mask to wear once to this night, nor do I even have the time to go out and buy a cheap plastic mask, so I'll probably end up painting my face.

Pictures to follow once the big night happens and I never get photographs of myself on previous Halloweens, so here's one of my face painted up for the Dr. Sketchy's Surrealist's Salon:

Plus I get to go to a party in my dressing gown and slippers, I'm hoping it makes all the girls think of bed, which will narrow the field very quickly between those that act repelled and those that think its cute.

@glukkake Is it the Witches Masquerade Ball you're headed to? I've been considering it but lack of company and the cost has been making me think I might not do it.

Four years ago I knew I was going to be driving for 6+ hours alone so I didn't bother with much costuming more than a little headband with purple glittery kitty ears. I may have also been wearing eyeliner.

Other than this year that is the only time I can recall not working on a full costume. I feel just awful skipping costuming this year but I *really* can't spend the money on something proper and my tiny wardrobe can't sustain much real creativity (brought about 10% with me to New York) without at least a big makeup kit. I was thinking of picking up a couple of little cheap details like something for my hair and maybe my face and just going out in what would otherwise be a typical goth nightclub getup. It'll be dressy and different enough for most people. But a nightclub dress is a little ordinary for me when it comes My Favorite Damn Holiday.

Now that I think about it I really should try and get gifts for my gothy friends some time. Something for the new year }:>

I am a geek, I made a light up chest piece so I can be Tony Stark (from the movie, in case that wasn't pathetically obvious to all). I mounted the thing into a t-shirt, and it looks pretty cool. This has the advantage of being the most unobtrusive costume I've made in years so I should be able to drink without worrying about my costume coming apart. (Previous years I have been a ghostbuster, complete with theme-song playing, home-made proton pack, Wolverine with shiny silver claws that looked awesome but made it a bitch to drink, and the ever popular Zombie with prosthetics that did not want to stay stuck). I'm looking forward to it, pictures to follow, I'd assume (although I never have a camera so it will depend on others taking pictures of me).

My plan for Halloween is a corpse bride - generic black dress, black tiara with red bat-covered tulle for a veil, and dead flowers. Not the most original, but I'll be comfortable at least. My favorite costume ever was when I went as a mugging victim, complete with a knife going in my stomach and out my spine.

debating weather or not to go as the child eating tree again(this time with real children) as a bonus to that costume which is actualy just a prop tree we drunkenly stole from the theater back in highschool and painted black with red eyes and cut out a mouth, seems to always scare kids enough that they will actualy throw candy at it. So whilst being "a little old for that sort of thing" I do enjoy free candy and scaring both drunk teenagers and children alike. Ill try to dig up some pics.

Well, the "Allegedly Attacked by a John McCain Supporter" went over well. It was simpler than many of the costumes, but better than a lot of the last-minute shit that people throw together (Anyone who dresses up gets an extra vacation day, which inspires a lot of half-assed efforts.) Take a look:

I went to a party at a local art gallery last weekend and dressed up as Tank Girl. Like Starrah, I felt most of my costume was made up of accessories, like the smiley faced grenade hanging from my jacket and the missile-shaped headboppers. Less than five people knew who I was dressed as, and one gallery patron went so far as to ask if I was a bumblebee. I guess that's a fail?

Thanks! I have been teaching in gore for many years now. I have a background in theatre and I do make-up for our plays at the high school. It's the only chance I have to do the fun FX stuff that I've learned over the years. I've got a foam latex appliance of a vampire bite and I'm thinking of shredding my cheeks up using liquid latex, it should be fun. It's worth the early rising time to see the reaction of the teenagers when they see me in the halls. Last year one of my kids came in half asleep and actually screamed when I started teaching class, we all laughed, it was great. I'm so sadistic.

@briancj: That is an awesome Edison Carter costume. I tried to do something similar years back, but it basically amounted to walking around in a trench coat and a nametag that said "Edison Carter." No one knew who that was. Sigh.

I'm saying to hell with it and going High Goth this year. Got a new skirt from Kambriel and some fancy dreadfalls -- if I can ever figure out how to attach them to my dreads. Of course, this also means battling my nemesis liquid eyeliner again...I like the look but it usually takes a lot of trial and error (and Q-Tips) to get it right.

Pics to follow. And if anyone happens to be in Austin, apparently the Zombie Marching Band reaches Elysium around 10PM.

Well, I guess my costume from last year is a bit of dead give away, considering my name (those that know video games should at least know who I am.... those who play the good games, that is. tee hee.)

I threw it together last mintue, but I was recognized, so I guess that counts.

This is the one I just finished hand sewing for my daughter to wera tonight.

as you can see, she isnt as thrilled with it as I am. Hard to see, but there is green felt in the shape of bills sticking from the top of her bag.

Comments: Make-up on the face is perfectly comfortable until you have to itch your nose, then all bets are off. Green hairspray coloring stuff + really long hair FUCKS YOU UP. It's still not completely out, and I spent an hour pulling out hair that it killed and rinsing and shampooing and...yeah.

Last night, I did a haunted house.

On my way home (10:00-ish) there were still quite a few trick or treaters out. Mostly middle school aged. Walking down the main street of town, I saw a trio of kids. One of the kids I have no idea what he was wearing, I didn't really pay attention to him. The other two were wearing KKK outfits. There was no mistaking them for ghosts. They had the crosses on their chests and were carrying a confederate flag. I was pretty disgusted.

I went as a variation of Tank Girl. This is the only image with anything remotely like lighting. The squinty eyes are because I have a foot about six inches from my face (just out of the frame). Went out dancing to End: the DJ at Heaven nightclub. While End is phenomenal, having fetish events in mainstream spaces means none of the usual protocol. I was repeatedly groped, stalked by Superman, and had to call on my Nerf Ninja arm candy to protect me. Interesting night.

damn... there are some mighty fine costumes here on Whitechapel!!

this is the ROBOT! costume I made for my Husband.

So he would be able to drink, I added an energy drink canister with clear tubing - Worked WONDERS! except, I had it holstered to his head.. and he had to chug the first drink before gravity took over.. (hahaha in more ways than one) so thats why it's taped to the bottom.

Even Robots need a smoke break.

The fact that the panel was detachable - was pure comedy.

I went as Kermit the Frog.

i don't have a picture, but I dressed in black crushed velvet wizards robes with a big black matching cloak. I had a staff and a witches cauldron full of candy.
black lipstick and makeup.

For the party I went to I didnt' really dress up but someone thought I had.
I was wearing jeans, and a black long sleeve tight sweater, with a long greyish blue jacket/coat. I had a full leather wine skin over one shoulder and a sachelbag full of candy (i like candy). Someone said he liked my costume...that it looked Anarchist...I asked for clarifycation but he ran off to scream drunkenly at some new people who showed up.
I also got to see a lingerie bunny, a giant hand made pot bud dress, and a man dressed as Zelda from LoZ.

I made a steampunk guitar, a box that plays music from my ipod, and a hat that houses a small amp with which I played my guitar through. It all worked and sounded pretty decent as well. I have only piss-poor camphone shots taken in a glaringly lit bathroom, but them's the breaks. I was Medusa. What the photos fail to demonstrate is that there were a fuck of a lot of those little snakes in my hair. Also the stuff around my eyes was scaly and iridescent and green in real life, and looks black in the pictures.

I tended bar all night, and brought extra snakes to stick in people's drinks. It was a grand old time. Patrons do not pick on the girl who looks like she slept in a nest of asps, no matter how low cut her dress.

This year I intended to go as Tom Waits, but when I shaved my mustache off I discovered I didn't look like Tom Waits, I looked Amish. So I threw a mask on and became El Phantasmo del Gus, Luchador-to-Door, and spent the night offering to sell people jump kicks, and my special line of skin-care products that mostly involve punching (to bring out the skin's natural bruise).

I lost my fedora at 2 am breakdancing in my front yard, but bought another one off a bum for $5 at 3 am on the way to the fourth party of the night.

Lots of great costumes this year. My favorite? Sarah Palin Mauled By Wolves. That was some good shit.

its been forever since ive been back to this site. Its a bit like coming home.

Mind you, as a child when i returned from school, i was beaten with wire clothing hangers

ahhh memories.... anyways, heres my costume

that is a piece of PVC which would not conform to the shape of my forearm. So i boiled the mother fucker and bent it. take that, you multi-use plasitc

these are the painted pieces that would later be glued onto a glove. While it looked quite spiffy once completed, i was forced to glue each piece while wearing the base glove. Superglue seeped into my pores, and i saw a thousand Tim Burtons picking wild flowers

i bought this...shut up.

i spent too much time on this. My desk is covered in burns from soldering irons, its the first costume ive ever worn that required math to create, and ive never spent so much time thinking about how badly i need a girlfriend. On the plus side, i now know that 20 LEDs with built-in resistance runs 720millaAmp/Hours, and three AAA batteries is more than enough for 5 hours of power...so...thats good

The costume minus the finished glove that had the little red armor bits. The glove was completed and soon destroyed by hours of drunken dancing. I wont lie...i wear this around the house sometimes....

This year, Halloween came a day early at the office, coinciding with the quarterly town hall meeting. It was essentially a day off while at work. Last year, for the cubicle-decorating contest (and costume contest), we took the idea of "Human Resources" to a more gruesome level. This year, we went a different way, and turned our area into Pee-Wee's Playhouse, with yours truly in the starring role. When I was a kid, I loved that show, and I used to run around imitating Pee-Wee Herman a lot. How my parents put up with it, I dunno. In any case, it was easy to become Pee-Wee again for this.

There was an awful lot of screaming that day. We even had a secret word and surprised everyone -- that is, scared the shit out of everyone -- in the middle of the big meeting when one of the execs said it.

And I won the Rock Band contest with a rather kick-ass rendition of "Paranoid"! Now if only I'd sung that using the Pee-Wee voice...

Nowhere near as impressive as some people's posts here, and also not the best photo - you can't really see the scarred/rotting flesh on my face and neck. At the time I thought I'd overdone the gore, but as this pic proves, you can't have too much fake blood. Anyway, yes, indie rock zombie. I was DJing at a bar in North London, along with a gravedigger and the Joker. Pretty good turnout of punters in fancy dress too.
