I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.Sorry if this is the wrong area. I figured since I was asking about good games it would count as creative art. I just finally got a graphics and sound card for my PC and want to try some games. What would the people here recommend?
I have no experience since the PS1. I like everything but RPG/final fantasy type games.
I picked up Prince of Persia2 for 10$ just to try out any game. I would also like a good WW2 game as I am a big history buff. Especially if I can play the Soviets. -

I don't know about good WW2 games where you can play the soviets, but I do know some great WW2 games:
If you're looking for strategy games, go with Company of Heroes. Best WW2 strategy game, hands down.
If you're looking for first-person shooters, Call of Duty and Call of Duty 2 are excellent. So is Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. This last one is maybe too old, so Medal of Honor: Pacific Assault should suit you.
But the best war game right now is Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. It happens on present days, but damn is it good. You play as a SAS soldier and USMC soldier. -

Ditto, CoD:4. It's quite nice to see the SAS get some screen-time.
I think my favorite games are strategy games, the bigger the better. Currently, Supreme Commander is my favorite game to play, but I'm literally just about to go out and get Mass Effect and Assassin's Creed for the 360, so one of those might supplant it, as I've been meaning to get into RPGs. -

You also like RPG/Final Fantasy? So buy Elder Scrolls: Oblivion. Now. I COMMAND YOU. It's a HUGE adventure/RPG.
And games I played recently and liked:
Motorstorm (great dirt racing game, and I don't even LIKE racing games)
The Darkness (excellent first-person shooter, with involving story by Paul Jenkins. I don't like Jenkins, but he did a good job on this game)
The Punisher (loads and loads of fun, all written by Garth Ennis. Great third-person shooter)
Games I played recently and didn't like:
Stranglehold (the death animations are so bad it ruins the entire game. Shoot a guy in the head and he takes ten seconds to fall down. Seriously)
The Simpsons Game (way too arcade)
Games I can't wait for:
Grand Theft Auto 4 (boy, this is gonna be good)
Metal Gear Solid 4 (see above) -

I need to play RPGs simply for the fact I can't beat them in two hours. I was/am a pretty big gamer at heart. Final Fantasy XII and Rogue Galaxy are my favorites at the moment.
Otherwise I like simple games like Tetris and Mario Kart.

If I had to reccomend one purchase with a pretty good lifespan and value for money, I'd say you should check out Valve's 'Orange Box' collection. You get Half Life 2, and the first two of the 'episode' add ons that carry on the story. Can't praise the Half Life series highly enough, and if you like sci fi, action and guns (which I'm guessing you do), you'll almost certainly like this game. Valve have also thrown in Portal (puzzle based first person sci fi) and Team Fortress 2 (online, multiplayer fps), neither of which I've played yet. You're basically getting many hours of quality gaming at a relatively low price.
I'll add my reccomendations for the Call of Duty series. You do get to play a fair few missions as a soviet, including some pretty epic Stalingrad levels. Not one step backwards, Comrade!
Hitman: Blood money is also wonderfully amoral stealth based action, with pretty good replay value.
Wish I could personally reccomend some games that AREN'T shooty-death-kill focussed. I hear Psychonauts is pretty good, and if you can spare the cash for a quirky, untaxing point and click puzzler than the Sam and Max: Season One collection is probably worth picking up. -
I'll second Psychonauts and Sam and Max. Gaming isn't all about wasting OpFor with BFGs. These really are games as art.
By the way, if you bought PoP2 then you've probably played PoP1, but if you haven't you really should play Sands of Time. It's vastly superior to the sequel, in my opinion, with a much better story. I played Sands of Time in like two days while I couldn't stomach finishing Warrior Within.
And I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned yet but Bioshock is considered by many to be the game of the year. I haven't played it yet though, but it does look awesome. -
Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth will drive you mad, avoid at all costs.

find any game related to panzer dragoon. possibly the most underrated series of all time. art direction is pretty much unbeatable, and it is a shooter, but not in the machine gun everything in sight sense of the word. everything just seems so graceful while viewing the world from dragonback. -

I heartily recommend the Hitman games (except the first one, since it's dog-awful).
Also, Rome Total War and its many mods, American Conquest, Deus Ex, and I'm currently amusing myself with Jedi Knight II - Jedi Outcast, and wondering how much hassle it would be to mod it for Firefly. -
I'm a fairly hardcore RPG nerd, mainly D&D-based - I loved the Baldur's Gate series, Icewind Dale series, Neverwinter Nights series and so on. I also really enjoyed Knights of The Old Republic and the sequel. As far as FPS go, I only really ever got into Unreal Tournament 2004, but I did obsess over that, clan membership and all. I want to play UT3, but my machine just won't do it. As far as RTS games go, I'm well into Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War and the expansions. I also like puzzle games - Tetris, anything like that, especially Super Puzzle Fighter II. Back when they still made up beat 'em ups, I adored Street Fighter II, Mortal Kombat, Soulcalibur and the like. I gather there's a new Soulcalibur due out in '08, but the last console I had any truck with was the PS1 and that's not about to change any time soon.

The new graphics card is making a big improvement on my old atholon. Even text is much nicer. It is a great time to build a budget AMD based computer with their top of the line CPU only costing 200$.

I almost bought Gears of War any one like/hate it?
Tetris and LSD made a permanent change in my brain during my teens. -

No, but you can throw henchmen at hungry snakes, piranhas, you name it. This game turns killing scumbags into an artform.
As for The Darkness: the script is not the same as Ennis' first six issues. The story is different, and it just borrows some elements from Ennis, like the characters. -

Played Mass Effect all the way through recently, which finally made me feel my ownership of a 360 was justified. Damn fine game play and story wise. -

God of War 1 and 2.
I am a very bad videogame player. I have a dexterity rating of five outta one hundred according to my doctor...but, I'm good enough to kick ass on God of War...
The cinematic feel of the games got me. The grandious scenic levels and monsters...
Oh yeah..after you play the games, look for Yo Soy Kratos on google or youtube...
I recommend it to anyone wanting to get back into games. The character is easy to control, and you don't have to worry about positioning the camera like alot of games these days do...it's got really good camera angles...
Oh, and Silent Hill...any of the silent hill games are pretty neat.
Also, the first The Suffering...I was very impressed by the psychological tricks they played with the audio track. The point of the game is to try to be a good person, but they lay down this grating audiotrack in all your allies voices, so you have a distinct urge to kill them. They put down an undertone in your enemies voices that's soothing...
You get different endings depending on how you play through. -

I just got a 360 for the holiday; Halo 3 is fantastic, Gears of War is...gray, and Beautiful Katamari is trippy in a way that only a Japanese niche game can be.
Bioshock, though, is simply amazing. -

OOOH...almost forgot...Okami.
When it comes out for Wii...if you have managed to snag a Wii, get Okami.
It's so hard to find for PS2 and it's at least sixty bucks online...but they are remaking it for Wii...
basically you are a wolf spirit who gets to paint reality...very creative and beautiful game. -
