Since I am a poor New Yorker, and all of my spare money goes towards buying Warren's work, I had to opt for a no frills free blog. So here is my question; can I use third party themes, and if so how do I upload/change the themes - or do I have to upgrade and pay for the ability to use third party themes?

I guess this restriction only applies to wordpress.com hosted blogs? I run wordpress on my own server here and haven't come across this distinction. There are things that are annoying in that they're badly documented. It took me forever to figure out how to insert youtube embed code without it breaking my [downloaded] theme's layout, (a pre tag that tells wordpess not to format the text.) I think wordpress.com blogs have a plugin or back end that uses a usage like [youtube=http://linkembed.com]. looks like you win some and you loose some. great software generally though.
