I think it is the small details I love about this series, the little touches that make it seem more belivable, Freakfriday could not have come sooner for me this week been laid up with flu me the two boys and the girlfriend and as the man of the house had to suck it up and take control, I'm surprised we are not homeless after my week as leader.

Beautiful episode, a cosy scene of tenderness bookended by the threat of something else. Master of pacing, Warren.

I was up far too late last night and again too early this morning for work, BUT I'm having to kill a fair bit of time while my mac renders stuff out, so I've be reading some of my recently acquired missing Ellis Comics (Specifically Black Gas2 #3 and Black Summer #4). Read Black Gas 1+2 at before 7am.....wonder how that'll affect the rest of my day...

The ones we et from the supermarket are white inside and are to watery. Organic strawberries tend to taste better. I love Alice's reaction. Not sure I like the cliffhanger though, I'm stressed enough as it is!

Waiting for GOSH! to call when they have the special editions of Vol 1 in.

This week I have mostly been in hospital, walking to or from hospital, or waiting for the washing machine to finish so I can go back to the hospital. Joe has been a bit poorly, but he came off the drip and the monitors this morning, so we're hoping he can come home for the first time tomorrow. He's in with all the very premature babies and he's at least 3 times the size of them, and he's very strong and alert, so no real worries, just a bit puky for his first week so they needed to get his sodium and chloride levels sorted out. He's keeping his feed down now. Now I have to go register him at the doctors. I hope the smoking cessation councilor is not there else I am in deep shit.

You could see the strawberry moment coming, but it was handled so well, it didn't matter a jot. I've found some recent episodes a bit slow (actually, I think it depends on my mood*) but this seemed just the right balance of character detail and narrative tension. Terrific. And I'm finally warming to Alice.

*Which, today, is hungover and sleepy - but happy I managed to cook good food for my folks yesterday, including a classy raspberry and tarragon cream dessert!

I agree. This almost seems like a novel in comic form, rather than written for a comic. I'm still enjoying it though, as six-page chunks is all my shot concentration levels can take these days.

Okay, I've been wondering for a while, but this week makes me ask: are Kirk and Karl twins? Their features seem particularly similar, especially chins and noses. Having the similarity in the composition of the last two panels really made me take notice.

Also... those Mudlarks, they wouldn't try a go twice in one day, would they? Crazy fuckers. At least they don't have a giant fucking dart cannon. Although, the one poor bastard that they did leave alive did sort of get a challenge, if you think about it. Funny how Volume Two is starting to "pick up" right about the time Volume One comes out in print.

As far is the week is concerned, aside from the general levity surrounding Tuesday, it's been pretty depressing. The rain and clouds make me want to shoot some sort of weather god in the face, and I've been thinking a lot about our impending move. I mean, I've spent all 27 years of my life in and around the Fargo area... moving to Indiana might as well be like moving to Germany as far as my friends and relatives are concerned. It'll be nice to be away from all the entanglements I have here, but at the same time... blech. I'm mostly looking forward to having an apartment with enough rooms that I can actually have somewhere to work without having to deal with my daughter harassing me constantly or my wife watching TV or whatever. Oh, and the fact that I'll be living in a swing state, so my vote will actually mean something, instead of being drown out by the racist hick assholes that live around here.

But! Freakangels came out, and my Absolute Watchmen finally showed up, and I found out they released the entire Batman animated series as one 17-disc collection this week, so I've got a lot to look forward to.

NO FAIR. Last week I was on the phone to my mom in Southern California, asking her to send some of my things for putting up with cold weather, the likes of which I've only visited but never lived with before. Part of that conversation revolved around serious problem I see with "having seasons." Namely, seasonal fruits and vegetables come at a premium when out of season, are terribly difficult to find, and often require sorting through quite a bit of icky specimens before finding something edible.

Two days ago I got my clothes as well as box of persimmons, avocados and a mango. Fresh, ripe, beautiful. Made me sniffle just a little.

Today I'm freaked out. I need some very good luck. If the universe doesn't line up for me exactly right today I'm in huge trouble and fresh fruit will be a very low priority. The economic news is horrible and the job market is worse. In times like these who needs a cataclysm to remember what sucks and what is delicious?

Nicely structured this week; I've found my reader's-rhythm with this drip-feed of six pages per Friday but it took awhile (31 weeks or so. Anyone else here a bit slow in this regard?) and sometimes I'd find details had slipped from my recall. So this bookending approach cutting between the watchtower and the meet up is clever.

I've got a real apprehension about what happens next.

Another beautiful episode, and a good reason to get up this morning. Thank you Warren & Paul (and, of course, Ariana).

It's my first day off since Tuesday, and without FA I may not have gotten up 'til well past noon. I spent election day doing physical labor to distract myself from worry, not that it helped much. After staying up to watch the politics, I've been exausted, but unable to sleep well. I'm happy with some of the things I thought were vital, but my father summed up the CA elections pretty well when he said, "Californians do love to spend money, but they can't just leave each other alone to be happy." I'm trying to drag myself out of the morass of frustration and disappointment... no weddings any time soon on this end. Makes me almost envy the FreakAngels the simplicity of their new lifestyles, I bet no one would care there.

So, at least I have a reason to get up this morning, reading FA and then calling around to see if I can find a hardcopy of the first part. My special order of it has yet to come in and I'm impatient.

everyone's on about the strawbrries (I am from the Midwest. I drop the 'e'. Don't have a fucking clue why.) and here I am all giggled about 'Because of all the sex, Karl.' snerk. It's not like he's not more worked up about it than anyone else anyway. at least, that's how it seems to me.

today i am irritable. spent a day and a half in bed with post-moving ick, the half day in between being achy and ful-on ill was spent in company and joy and crying about the new POTUS (this is my new favorite obnoxious acronym). discovered that i dig writing in the laundry room. almost sad that i don't have more laundry cause it was good for my focus. wondering how creepy it would be to be the laundromat writer-lady. might have to think about honing that into a proper image.

did not quit my job. yet. have jury duty monday. suspect i am far too much the liberal/thinker type for our local courts. still bummed that we didn't split our votes. okay, i'm actually really pissed off about it, but it has no proper outlet as yet.

tonight i will dine on appetizers and wine given out by art galleries and book stores as it is first friday here in lincoln, and that means we all go out and get cultchah'd.

this was a typical "nothing is really happening" episode. i kind of dislike it, but i'm really looking forward to the next one. i must admit the strawberry moment was very, very nice.

we're having a comic book festival next weekend and there are lot of things to do before it. we had a press conference yesterday. right now i'm trying to find some kind of big screen for matt hollingsworth's lecture on digital coloring. can't wait to hear it.

I think you all need a couple hours at the park in the sunshine or something. You're all so stressed! Me, I loved this episode -- in fact, I think I enjoy these quiet bridging episodes more than the big explosive ones! Even the exposition-heavy ones. The quiet little ones that cover the span of maybe two or three freakminutes and don't really feature anything happening are so nice and snuggly.

Really not helping my "I'm not gay!" insistence that I've had to be re-iterating to pretty much everyone I know lately.

Anyway. Very nice episode. KK was beautifully joyous when informing Karl he should be grateful for her services in obliterating the Evil Tea Wine.

One good thing happened this week, my employers had cut off the internet connection like two weeks ago, but now it´s back on since yesterday, so I can finally enjoy freakangels friday again!!! Hi everyone, I'm new here and I've just discovered Freakangels about a month back.
(Will post an intro at the proper section after this. ^_^)

To my surprise I have been back every Friday to read the newest installments. ^_^

I really like this week's - everybody finally comes together! Its so heartwarming, but given everyone's singular temperaments I predict it will end in tears and arguments with no resolution.

Unless.... the something that Kirk sees is so urgent that provokes unanimous agreement...

I can't wait to see more character development for Kait!

And yes the strawberry scene is quite moving... >_<

I ran off to play Friday before I could comment.

I think he's seeing a second wave coming - the first wave was cannon fodder, designed to make them think they had scared them off. Sure, leaving one alive and sent back to tell the others what naughty children they've been was a lovely gesture, but it's a good distraction. If the leader of the attacks (who has to be Mark - I can't see anyone else having the balls to pull this off), didn't tell the first wave a second wave would be coming, the Freakangels would have no way to know because they can't mind read what's not there. Running off a few asumptions, if Mark was apart of the group after previous battles, and he knows they retire to cave to chill sometimes, a second wave is a good timing because they will be relaxing, relatively unprepared and away from the landing site.

This line of thinking makes me concerned for Kirk - he's alone.

True, but Alice and Conner went straight from the tower to the 'Cave and were the first ones on the scene, so I can't imagine it would be too far to back him up. Plus there's the benefit of Kirk seeing the oncoming wave first. Unless they're coming from the sky (and behind) I think Kirk will be okay. I think it's a little early to start killing main characters off, since Warren's said this will be a LONG series. Injury I can see, but they have Miki. Unless he's well and truly mortally wounded, he ought to be fine, methinks.

Thought: maybe the Freakangels aren't the only ones with powers? What if Mark has hooked up with some continental-European assholes that can mess with people's brains? I realize this would go against the statement of twelve kids being born at the same time (because it's more than twelve at that point), but it's just a thought.

that hadn't even occurred to me...

I was kinda getting the feeling that the rabble we've seen the Freakangels fight off so far aren't really the villains as such, more of an environmental hazard.

The ominous panels of Kirk this week smell to me like something wicked this way coming. A real, malicious, puissant adversary on the way... maybe Mark, maybe... someone/thing else...

I am well-prepared to see myself proved utterly mistaken on Friday, the unpredictability of the action so far is one (but only one) of the reasons I keep coming back.

Alice's tear when she eats the fresh strawberry was quite simply my favorite moment of this week's installment. That small incident captured the feeling of how much had been lost when the world flooded over. If the Whitechapel area is somewhat hanging on, other areas of the world must be in shittier shape.

I did pick up my TP copy of FREAKANGELS Volume 1 and started flipping through it. A small curse escaped my lips during a scan through some of the early pages. KK made a casual reference to inflicting death from above, which I utterly forgot about until the gang armada attack.

As for the past week, it was volunteer on three different campaigns including Obama and the effort to save LGBT marriage up through election day followed by vegging out for the rest of the week at a relative's place while being entertained by CROOKED LITTLE VEIN's description of Godzilla bukkake and Rachel Maddow's news show.

I was also mulling over the idea that the first wave was for distraction. People celebrate after victory (tea wine, anyone?) and o course they didnt bother reloading the huge gun, because there is always time to do it tommorrow.... right?

As for Mark, I dont think he'll show is face for a bit, not after sending Alice to gun down the Angels. But you never know.

Like one of them was saying, their powers aren't exactly common knowledge. And it appears they want to keep it that way. I also look at it as using the appropriate tool for the job - you don't need something huge to swat flies.
