Well, I still run Spybot, but I do it less since I started using Noscript with Firefox. Come to think of it, I may be overdue for a Spybot check.

I do think changing your OS is quite extreme for Virus issues. I would suggest Clamwin as a virus checker, it is not on-access so it only scans files on your request, but it does have outlook and IE integration. I would also recommend Firefox with localRodeo to stop malicious javascript. and Windows Defender for spyware which seems to work reasonably well.

also get TweakUI XP and disable auto-runs, in vista disable all autoplays in the control panel. this will prevent USB viruses.

I have installed this setup on a number of friends and colleagues system, and it seems to work reasonably well, I also give them tips on potentially dangerous files and how to scan them. FYI, I use GNU/Linux, so I don't use this setup personally.

I use AVG on one computer and NOD32 by ESET for a little extra peace of mind on another.

I have no complaints about either, but then I don't engage in risky activities online. Borrowing a drive from a friend every now and then can be pretty educational and remind me that I have NOD32 installed though.
