Got home from a trip back east to discover that the newspaper delivery hadn't been suspended quite as long as I wished.

Out of sense of obligation, I picked through a few copies from the pile. Happy days, The Oregonian had, on the front page of yesterday's soft news section, a Top Ten list of comics.

"Fell" was in the #2 spot:

<quote >2. "Fell: Feral City," Warren Ellis/Ben Templesmith (Image) -- Warren Ellis' brilliant and unsparing look at the moral ghetto of Snowtown, and the detective/crime story, was the best work in mainstream comics in 2007. Every minute you spend with Det. Richard Fell as he wedges himself between pedophiles, muggers, suicide bombers and their victims will leave you cursing the hours wasted on the pale imitations. Ellis' grasp of the angels and demons in each of us is harrowing and humbling, elevating each episode of "Fell" to unforgettable drama.</quote>

Link to article

http://www.oregonlive.com/oregonian/stories/index.ssf?/base/entertainment/1198891516289490.xml&coll=7
