What do you hoard?
My first collections were little ceramic figurines, keychains and fairytale books (only the ones with illustrations in them that I liked). I've graduated to carved jade, weapons (I really want to add a few Blunderbusses to my hoard, god I love those things!) and it would seem, a good many books with the AVATAR Press logo on them. -
Records, Japanese Woodblock Samurai Battle Prints (triptychs), Swords, DVDS, Monsters Magazines, posters...antiques...
I really need to cut back -
Old model rocket motors.
The goal is to use them, not horde them, although people do that too.
Stored properly, they're good to go decades after their manufacture. I have motors dating to 1972 or so that I wouldn't hesitate to "burn."
Sometimes you just need a B14-0 to get a model moving.

I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.Knives ,I am trying for one good example of every kind. I have a nice Katana ,tomohawk ,FS Dagger from WW2(second Pattern) Scrapyard Bowie knife ,Lambert Custom folder ,Emerson tac folder. I could go one for pages but suffice it to say it is a obsession. I also have bought a nice Bow and a beautiful 1970's Parker Hale .303 rifle. I was into new knives but have since got the antique bug ever since I got the WW2 Sykes Fairbain.

I would love a Blunderbuss but am probably going to get a Martini Henry rifle first. There was a battle a few miles from my house that was quite important to Canadian history called
the Reil rebellion or Metis(French indian halfbreeds) and the Martini Henry was used by the Canadian elite troops.

I also collect comics usually pamphlets but I have a growing collection of TPB's.
I also have a couple motorbikes , A Honda 919 ,a 78 CB350 cafe(in progress but almost done) and a new Kawasaki KFX450 sport Quad.

I've always collected books (personal library is galloping towards 3500 at the moment, curtailed only because I live on a boat), but as for hoarding, I'd say that in the realm of Obtaining Multiple Copies of Something, my collection of Harlan Ellison, William Kotzwinkle, and various translations/editions of Beowulf falls well within hoarding behavior.... -

Gota agree with Kitsune here. Its always about books. Moving is always an exercise in hard back hell.
Though a particular crazy hoarding behavior is I buy RPGs to read even though I have barely played one since I was an Undergrad (ie, 8-9 years ago). Past that I buy movies, though less since the age of NetFlix. -
I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.I have quite a few books and have found the boxes booze is shipped in are sturdier than most cardboard boxes and are usually sized right for books so that you can actually lift them and even stack them. I use a dolly to move them around. The same dolly I use for V8 engine blocks actually.
The ultimate in anti Zombie weapons using The Zombie survival guide ,World War Z for what works would be a world war 1 and 2 battle rifle with a sword bayonet. You can't use full auto weapons because that makes for animated zombie heads as dangerous as landmines so what you need are accurate head shots. The Sword bayonet gives you a very useful close quarters weapon.
I like the SMLE Enfield because it holds 10 shots and has a fantastic bayonet but a Garand is semiauto and holds 8 30-06 rounds.
After a few weeks of arguing with JTraub like the after the apocalypse odd couple I would pray to be eaten by a zombie.
My copy of Harlan Ellisons DeathBird stories one of those books I reread every couple years. I am still annoyed you can't get nuke powered sports cars (Yet). -
As far as collections go I am a collector by nature. I guess it starts with books, now it extends to comic books, DVDs, CDs, ceramic pottery, RPGs.
If I had the money I guess I would start collecting a lot of other things, I am just a packrat by nature. -

I have three copies of Chuck Palahniuk's Fight Club. One is in English (signed), one in Russian (also signed - probably the only signed Russian copy in existence), and one in Japanese. I pick them up anytime I go to a country that speaks a different language then English.
I also have about 250 DVDs and about 10 Blu-Ray's, so movies in general I suppose. -
I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.Fight club was a terrific book and a great movie. I actually like Brad Pitt. Some of Chucks books are painfully bad though.
I am getting more flashlights than I could possibly ever need. At least I don't have quite as expensive a taste in those as knives.
The Fenix lights are great and cheap. I just got a new one Called an Ultrafire WF-C6 with the amazing Cree LED.
It is stainless steel so it matches my stainless Spyderco police and Fuck Communism zippo. It throws as much light as a big 3 Dcell maglight
and only cost 30$. Unfortunatly it burns through an expensive CR123 lithium in about 2 hours.
I got y FC zippo after Preacher but before Y the last man. -
@ StefanJ - My brother is like a little kid when it comes to model rockets; he's rather avid about motors and propulsion systems like you are. He's blown a number of them up in his years but, I now believe that his successful launches are far greater in number than the "others".
@unsub - Sounds like you have an astounding collection! I have an antique khukuri from Tibet, an antique, bone-hilted, ceremonial knife from Turkey, an nice set of 8" throwers, but I found some small 3" blades for throwing that I like a lot better so, those are next on my list of knives. Otherwise, I have a Browning longbow, a recurve, an 8' redwood staff, a cocobolo boken, a bullwhip, a 4' sjambok...and I think this list could go on and on as well.
@ KitsuneCaligari - You live on a boat...Cool! Do you like it? What kind? I've wanted to give that a try since, wow, I don't remember; forever, maybe. I worked on a small ship up in Norway for a bit, but, due to scale, I don't imagine there are all that many similarities... -
Books, first and foremost. I have a library. Even after getting rid of some.
Beads (they dont stay with me long, though. I make jewelry for friends, since i rarely wear any of it myself)
I used to collect tarot decks.... still have quite a few. My Amano deck is probably the one i went through the most trouble to get...
Watches. Every so often I need a new one. Just because.
People. I have the neatest little collection of strange friends and acquaintences. ;P

Ditto. I have probably about twenty corebooks and at least as many sourcebooks, but I haven't seriously played a game in about two years. I read them for the stories and worlds created, especially the White Wold games.
I also seem to accumulate, not so much collect, little show models of planes, everything from F-16s to A300s. Probably have about thirty of those arrayed on the 'tarmac' on my desk - it's only purpose.
And any book about writing, though they are all pale reflection of On Writing, by Stephen King. Don't know how many of those I have, but I can say that probably 75% of them I've never read - I just sorta have them. -

I'm curious, which ones did you find painful? I'd only read 'Fight Club' (and sort of mumbled, <i>yeah, great book</i>, then never reread it). Got a couple of them for Xmas, so I'm wondering which ones to start with.

Why? There are places that will turn dog hair into wool. Well, yarn, although they'll also turn it into souvenirs or clothing if there's enough of it.

Manga, lots and lots of manga. I currently have 401 volumes of it (I know because I keep a spread sheet for it).
DVD, not as much as the manga but at least a couple hundred, mostly anime.
Video games, not as much as I used to and I sold off a lot. I might have a 100 compared to over 300 at one point.
I collect a lot of other do dads related to those hobbies but I am running out of room currently to do anything with them. -
I have about 1200 12" records, and maybe 700 singles on CD. Ooops.

Coupland has a couple of really unhappy books as well. They are not so much poorly written as being of painful
subject matter.
I love weapons ,I have ever since I was a kid. I am sure part of my love is because my parents banned all GI Joe type toys, making them ever so interesting.
Kim I love the sound of your collection. Kukuris are one of my favourites because of the history especially the Gurkas but also a lot of Canadian WW1 and WW2 and even recent snipers use them as bush tools and CQB weapons. The Tora Tora forum from the UK has both real Nepalese kukris for sale and some f the best martial arts experts and collectors in the field. They also do a lot of good for the people making the knives in Nepal and retired Ghurkas. They also do training in England with retired Gurkas.
My latest obbsesion is fur trade and 7 year war(which lasted 9 years) weapons. I don't have any yet other than a late 18th century butcher knife but I will probably start making some repros myself. I also tend to collect tools and especially antique hand tools. I am lucky to live way in the boonies where you can still find great stuff at pawn shops etc.
I also have a crapload of army surplus gear especially winter survival gear. I am actually wearing the awesome wool inner booties from my canuk mukluks.
The wool inners are the ultimate warm winter slippers.

anything Silent Hill. anything at all. fortunately for my bank account, there's not a lot out there. I've got T-shirts, guidebooks, English and Japanese copies of all the games (except SH0, which I've yet to acquire or play), bizarre stuff from the movie premiere in Tokyo, and of course the soundtracks. I'm now in the process of hunting down and acquiring copies of the primary influences on the series (Twin Peaks, Exorcist III, Session 9, etc).
