My take was T'challa Rogers of the 25th Century. A bit sci-fi, a bit...not. He's here to show the young sea dogs how it's really done: with robots!. Of course what he's doing is foiling their hijackings. Kids these days, such little respect for their elders. Or robots. In the second pic, you can see his MIdge and Prof.

Adventure on the high seas! Midge is on the left, the Prof. on the right:

Sorry if I'm breaking the rules, etc., but when someone says "Black Napoleon from Science City"... Well, I just can't let that one go.

Also, does anybody else feel like the description of Cap J. sounded like The Goon as written by Alan Moore?

I dig that one all over the place. I wouldn't wanna mess with that man, no thank you.

    @frequentcontributor: Awwww yeah.

Actually, when Warren said "Doktor Popeye" I started off incorporating very literal parts of Popeye's look, just to see what would happen, and it did come off as very "Goonish".

I think the key to success with these is in trying to mangle the original idea as much as possible, while still leaving an identifiable corpse. So in that spirit:

    captain justice on deck

You may notice some minor changes to it there...I forgot his 'anchor hand' I'd intended to give him until after scanning/posting it. Obviously. Also, I wanted a little island down there to really put them up in the air.

    captain justice runs away

And I'm adding this because my dear wife wanted to see Titanic Tower from the side, and then the rest just happened.

    Go Mike, go!

Y'hear that? I'm cheerleading. I am pitching cheer like so much genetic material, and you are catching that genetic material like that ugly chick in a gorilla mask last week.

    Whatever.

He just wants this world to never, EVER forget him.

I like the "Beat the Clock" element here, because I'm working on my entry, and checking back on the thread saying "Crap, I hope no one else has posted the same idea I've come up with." More work tonight, hopefully posting on Wednesday! Draw Sizer draw!

There's some really cool ones so far, thanks for upping the bar, people...@$$%%&*

Furious: Your pic reminds me of what a really great Hayao Miyazaki movie poster for Cap J. would look like.

Garfunkel: Yours really has a "picture tells a thousand words" vibe... Like I could really go on forever imagining that world based off of your one pic.

bryantpaul: Before I read what you wrote, I immediately thought, "Archie as a salty dog..." And then I saw that you indeed did realize that. In a good way, though, since imagine Archie's journey to that point (Betty and Veronica killed by Guatemalan pirates while on an ocean cruise; Archie dedicates his life to revenge...).

Some of you are cutting it really close with the "supplemental" text to your art, too. There's nothing wrong with explaining what a squiggly bit is, if you feel your art didn't quite get that across, or adding a blurb or balloon you might see on a poster or panel, or even explaining technical or educational reasoning behind your design (as that's not fiction) -- but it's an art thread, first and foremost. Your text should not take up nearly as much of the post space as your picture does.

Oh, that looks bloody gorgeous. Of course, any work you do that incorporates smoke and such things always rocks my socks.
