I just wonder what people are thinking about Garth and Jacen's second (3rd I guess) installment on this new book. What do William and Jacen have to say for themselves?
So, are people sticking with it, loving it? Still shocked by it and whatnot? I'm writing final papers this weekend on what it means to be human, and it's pressing on my mind for sure. Obviously, this will be a very personal discussion, because the Crossed really do affect us pretty profoundly. I love it (well, not-- you know what I mean) and have to thank everyone at Avatar for this one.
What did everyone think of issue number 2?
It kind of goes without saying, but if you haven't read the first two issues,
A) Don't read any further in this thread, and
B) Go read the first two issues of this book. -

@Cyman - What do I have to say for myself? I'm proud as can be publishing a book that pushes the envelope like Crossed does. It is a brilliant work by two amazing creators. Crossed is a perfect example of why I publish. A book like that probably would never have made it to market without Avatar. Glad you are enjoying it! -

I have to confess I'm finding myself more involved in making sense of the world (i.e. what are The Crossed?) than in the characters. -

I agree with Kosmo, I think right now it's more about the world than the characters. What's going on? How is it spreading (although now we know...)? How much of the world is affected? Where did it come from?
Honestly, the series so far has made me laugh. It's so obscenely over the top and gory I can't do anything but laugh... and I don't know why. -

Thanks for that post Jacen; I think you nailed a lot of why I like reading it so much. It kind of ties to Kosmo's point, that the real horror comes in knowing that these things aren't zombies or monsters or anything; they're human beings. And we are all capable of that. It's even scarier thinking about it afterward and realizing that I can identify with the Crossed just as well as with the people. I was discussingthe thing with the bullets with a few friends of mine that I'm forcing all my comics on these days, and someone said that really as humans our most primitive instinct is to reproduce, to spread our own influence, so its very telling that that's all these guys are doing; the difference is that they stand for pure evil.This is a really great comic, and I hope a lot of people are buying it.

Crossed #2 is this Wednesday around here, so I'll have something to say about it then. Judging by the lack of response in this thread I'm guessing this coming Wednesday holds true for a lot of people. -

I picked it up the other day... I liked it as much as the first issue, which was plenty. However, I want something to happen. I know it was only the second issue but I'm waiting for something big to go down. I hope to see more than the survivors moving camp and someone dying every issue. The dialogue and art was great as usual though.
Oh, and Jacen... I'm loving the wraparound covers. The December issues cover is funny in a terrible, terrible way. -

Yeah, I'm loving these wrap covers. After the first issue had thefamily rape splash, you hit even closer to home on the issue 2 cover-- getting us the only place we love more-- Wal-Mart.
Oh those Crossed are so evil! Who could kill someone at a Wal-Mart?!

I'm really enjoying the book so far and I can't wait for the entire series to be out. I think it will read even better as a whole, as it will help with immersion in the terrible world that has been created.

I'm having a lot of fun with the wrap covers. it took me a while to figure out a theme but I'm happy with the direction I came up with. With the exception of the zero issue, all of the wraps focus on generic versions of real places where people have snapped and gone on killing sprees or at least attempted to. My hope is that it adds something by reminding us that this kind of violence really does happen in the real world in familiar, everyday places.

Either way, that was my favorite scene in #2. Well, that and the one in Cyman's second post. -

See, one of my friends came up with a theory that you were doing that. And she predicted that there would be a Wal Mart massacre in issue 3. I laughed and told her it's cute when she tries to talk comics. It would be embarrassing if she was right.
Editted for a post-script: My favourite scene has to be the incredibly ironic first vision of hope for uninfected humanity;The scene where the Crossed are shown killing they're own man, and he's just lovin' it. Right down to the guy with the intestine-straw... amazing artistically. But I love the irony that this represents the notion that it's possible for normal people to outlast them, letting them kill each other. And a little severed leg fucking is always a bonus, especially if there's smiles all around. Everyone's a winner!
Also, I've made my first joke about this book, meaning I'm officially a sick fucking bastard. -
I'm kind of sad that I didn't get the Wal-mart cover for #2 now...mine doesn't wraparound, it just shows the Crossed walking up to a shed.
It's still cool, but you guys have me wanting to see the Wal-mart one.
Edited because of Cyman: I will laugh until I shit if that's how this ends. In a good way. -

I'm personally loving the wrap covers. As someone who has to take three Xanax's just to fly, the imagery of the #1 wrap combined with the #2 pay-off was terrible (in a great way)! They do, however, make me wish #0 was a full-sized issue that showed 10 more pages of the outbreak in its infancy. But I guess when my only criticism is that I want more, it shows what a fun little book Crossed is!
