Here is my lame attempt. I started doodling in my Civil War class on Tuesday while talking about lady spies and their effforts, and it turned into Domino Lady. Crappy iPhone picture, but well I wanted to share... Dominooooo Need a scanner or better camera sigh.

    @Alberto:
If I draw six nipples on her breasts she will start to look like the bovine avenger.

The Bovine Avenger... next Remake/Remodel thread, or Fringe spinoff?

All the artists - fucking fantastic work. Makes me want to read all the comics in all the alternate universes where your ideas are put into print

A very minimalist approach, ahem...This is Domino Lady number 4/2 (the number represented by the pips on her collar so I'm guessing there must be more domino ladies out there)

BTW it's black leather but I don't have any color pencils or photoshop skills...

    Warren Ellis DOmino LAdy

My first time entering this shindig. I fiddled around in a sketchbook with the other two characters but never posted anything.

I had a lot of ideas for her, and this was my first concept. It's pretty weak.. essentially I just gave her a bigger gun. And I really rushed the coloring, I'm watching SLings and Arrows and get easily distracted heh.

But I plan on pursuing some other ideas before tomorrow, if I get a chance. Thank you for putting this together, it's fun and helps me get out of my three-job-work-exhaustion-art slump. ^_^

Another. Probably my last in this run. Have bizarre fetish for purple tonight. Still not entirely satisfied, looks rough and rather ugly, also lame concept. Must learn how to paint better digitally. Never quite finished my Tranny Domino version beyond some inspired sketches. Maybe next time. Now I need to take my nightcap to bed.

Looking forward to the rest of the submissions!

Okay: ryankelly: Amazing! Understated design sense with just the right amount of nod to the original. Have Bryan Wood write it and lets get this bitch on the shelves.

paul sizer: Such a completely different experience than your previous "placeholder"... Really great piece. Probably took you 20 minutes. And again, it is nice to see your sketches.

alberto: I like the domino sunglasses you gave your new sketch.

vogonpoet30: Despite your pseudo-self deprication, I think that your piece has a really cool, Alex Maleev-feel to it.

It's good to see more and more people contributing each week!

@Leandro Damasceno, @ryankelly, @evan_e_hill, @paulsizer: All tied for my favorites. And Paul, pleeeeease keep showing your process, it's quite fascinating for we who do not have access/capability with computer coloring tools. (English Education degree from an art-centric college...what was I thinking?!)

Okay, my turn. My interpretation is actually based on hasty reading. I saw Berkeley, and immediately started thinking, "professor." A women's studies prof at Berkeley (THE Domino Lady, for our purposes) develops "Domino Lady" as a branding tool of sorts. It's a highly specific college feminist group of would-be crimestoppers, thieves, and assorted sociopaths for a strange project - The Domino Ladies - the ultimate goal known only to her:

    Domino Ladies

Is the one in the red dress pregnant?
  4.  (4418.149)
And to Paul Sizer: I just noticed that your first Domino Lady pic is used as a poster in the background of your newer one... Nice little easter egg.

@frequentcontributor: Heh. If you're not sure if a lady is heavy-set or pregnant, NEVER ask. You're putting your life in your hands.

(Seriously speaking, though, my intent was just to have a larger woman to fill out - sorry - the ranks, but now that you say it, a pregnant Domino Lady would make things very interesting indeed.)

    @frequentcontributor:
I'm glad you noticed that I put the first DOMINO LADY poster in the second drawing; I figured what the hell, I liked the image, why not have it there?
And to make you feel better, the second drawing was about 5 hours, start to finish.

Jeff Holland: I'm glad you like seeing the process shots; it's a bit self serving, as I always really dig seeing the "behind the scenes" stuff on artist's work myself. I'm always worried that people will see my sketches and think "good Lord, he's gets PAID for that crap?!!?" Risk of the approach, I guess...

    More doodles -

I don't understand why Captain Justice was more compelling than this gender-swapped Saint clone. Maybe it needs a touch of Doogie Hauser MD or something? A child prodigy could terrorize criminals.

Here is my take. I do not pretend to know how to color and had no time to finish inks beyond this. Be gentle. =)

I don't understand why Captain Justice was more compelling...

Captain Justice had it goin on. With Black Napolean of Science City, Sargasso Sea Weed People, The Planet Nuvius on the offensive and other such calamities, any short-comings in Captain Justice are drastically off-set by his stylish adversaries.

A bit rough, but I'm happy I got it done at all :-)
Thought about Warren's "how many guns" question, and turned that into "what kind". Why, fabulously retro pistols of course! She might not be able to hit much, but they're just so pretty! Also, since it's all about the mask I thought plain black is just so yesterday darlink...

    Lady Domino Sketch 2

Here's another sketch I did that same day. I've taken a long break from drawing, and I'm enjoying getting back into it. I hope to contribute more in the future. Love all the stuff I'm seeing. This is one of my favorite illustration threads, period.

My interpetation was a modernization and origin change--Ellen Patrick is still a Berkeley grad who's the daughter of an influencial philanthropist--but in this version, when she finds out her father is allow the military to test their newest weapons in her city, she steals some of their tech, and becomes the Domino Lady--a masked adventurer who uses the suit to enhance her strength, agility, and aim to kick the Military/Industrial Complex square in the ass.

It's probably not as techy as I was envisioning in my mind, and I'll probably turn back to her soon.

    What do you guys think?

I did my first one earlier in the week, so it seems like forever waiting for Monday and the new character... Anyway, to bide my time, here is a shitty drawing of another variation of DL, although she looks a bit like the villain Candle Jack from the old cartoon Freakazoid. The drawing is so shitty, by the way, because I did it on my laptop with that little 2x1.5 inch touch pad that serves as a "mouse" on it, so... Also, the gun is supposed to be a revolver with each chamber having between one and six bullets, a la a domino. Because I colored the black lines dark gray and there was already dark gray on the gun and I wasn't paying attention, some of the gun detail was lost... oh well.

Same (laptop) method, though I used the shape tools this time to avoid my drawing looking like an episode of Dr. Katz. Sort of went for an "Incredibles" feel, but in my mind, the closest thing to what I'm doing is basically a Ms. Marvel ripoff... Enjoy.

I'm really glad to see these REMAKE/REMODEL threads getting so much action. Seriously, compared to other art forum threads (which just tend to be about fan wankery or artistic technique snobbery), these get backed up with really cool idea crunching, with some seriously fantastic art on top! It's a nice balance, and if major publishers were smart, they'd be trolling these threads to see who's worth hiring (or at least ripping off from...)

At this point, my faves are: kyle-latino (loose and nice), Sorbreiro (details in the outfit are awesome), Hana (love the eyes!), bryantpaul (cute, and smart concept), trigger25 (great illustrational style), Leandro (love the outfit), alberto (Holy see-through!), and RyanKelly (all around solid!). Nice work by all, and great diversity.
