Warren Ellis/ Simone Bianchi's Astonishing X-Men is my #1 comic I am most looking forward to this year. The writing will undubtedly be superb (Warren was born to do this book), and Bianchi's work...as always....sublime! When I say I am so excited about this, it really is a big thing for me. X-Men comics were the ones that got me into comics, and as a creator are my Holy Grail. There are no two people I want to see writing them more..except maybe a return of Grant Morrison (Warren and Grant writing X-Men FTW!)

It was my impression from the start that the above piece of Bianchi art was always just a promo thing, as I never thought Warren would be into X-23 (I wasn't a fan at first, I am now, but not for this book, at all); Whedon has always stated one of his cast will die, seems obvious who at this point; and therecent news that Colossus is leaving the X-Men and joining Marvel's new Defenders may mean this will be the only Bianchi Colossus we see.

Part of me really wants Warren to pick up on the threads in the last few arcs of X-Man, that was such a brilliant concept. Part of me hopes to gods he doesn't because as a hopeful-future Marvel creator I had a brilliant story to bring back Nate Gray lol.
Please, please, please do Chamber in it and fix him. I am not buying him in New Warriors at all, and he needs to ditch the Apocalypse Jr. look in the worst possible way.

I really am dying to see Warren's line-up.

Two things though:-
1. Is this going to be the place for news exclusives on the shaping up of AXM:SS?
2. Everyone seems to be talking about the Second Stage part like it means something very significant in several ways...am I being really dense? I feel like I'm missing something, lol. Help me out someone?

Probably.

I wanted a clear division between Joss' run and mine. Second Stage does also have a secondary meaning that will hopefully become clear during the midperiod of my own run on the book.

Well, cool, lol.
Eagerly anticipated and saving my paltry pennies immediately.

Hope you can create some really cool new original threats/characters for the team. I have no doubt you will.
Oh, and it would be great if some of Morrison's fantastic ideas/villains/characters in general resurfaced...especially if we can have it finally remembered in the comic that Ernst was Cassandra Nova. Whilst I loved her involvement in Whedon's run (and I think it's still possible to let Ernst be Nova, whilst not damaging Whedon's run), I was raging when Austen and seemingy in Marvel editorial just ddn't get the not-very-subtle hints that Ernst, the freaky old-lady-lookin' school girl was Cassandra Nova.

But then, whatever you do with the characters is gonna be awesome...frankly, you could probably pull off a hugely successful X-book that doesn't involve Wolverine...hell, you could if you made them all wear pink feather boas and tiaras like some kinda freaky mutant hen party...

*scribbles note for his own (hopefully) future run on an X-book*

Wait, you're HOPING he CAN create some really cool new original threats/characters for the team, but you HAVE NO DOUBT he will?

It has been used in Anime on several occasions (Vandred comes to mind) and that might be being picked up by people. My assumptions on it was spit balling obviously since I was playing, and presume you picked it for the same reason various Anime has, though I do not assume you knew or care anyone else has used it before. It sounds like a froward thinking continuation of an existing property that clearly differentiates it from the previous volume, and is not that hard a name to end up on with that intent.

Yeah, kinda like how you wish your parents will surprise you for Christmas but you know they will; you hope for it, but it's a foregone certainty anyway, which defeats the point of hoping for it 'cause it defnately will happen.

That an I have been up for abnormally long hours today, my sensing makes little.

Oh, okay, I'm also complete fucking nonsense when I don't get my sleep. Which is often, sadly.

Usually I work better on little sleep...in my head I'm like a fat, hairy Spider Jerusalem going into some kinda frenzied writer altered state of mind....in reality, I probably look like a pervert with too much porn.

sadly, lately little sleep befuddles my brain, and sadly so does good night's worth...or I may just be having a stage of brain befuddling. It shall pass, once I get this damn bastard screenplay out of the way.

But I am fast derailing the discussion topic here. Ellis. Bianchi. AXM:SS. It shall rule, indeed.

Just saw a leaked picture for the April solicited Young X-Men, andnow I'm hoping you include some of the current New X-Men team in your book, just to make sure that some of my favourite characters survive the end of Messiah Complex. Plus you could probably write Pixie so that she actually seems Welsh like she's supposed to be.

Shame you don't appear to have Blindfold though...she's a great character, but she should never hav wound up as a superhero.

For those of you who haven't seen the image, here it be...I don't think it really constitutes as a spoiler, but if it does I'm sure it can be taken down again.

The cover for Young X-Men #1

This has not a thing to do with AXM.
8. (446.54)
I presume that has to do with Young X-men, a the book another very good, but not Warren, writer's name has been knocked around in relation too.

I only posted as I thought it may hint at some characters that won't be returning (i.e. Blindfold). I've noticed how it's becoming more and more rare for characters to cross over between books (except for Wolverine who seems capable of being everywhere at once).

So no whilst it isn't AXM, I thought it may show something which may effect certain characters appearances. If that's not the case, then I suppose that's good to know.

Does that mean that like Whedon's AXM, your run will exist sort of disjointed from continuity (i.e. the other X-books never really seemed to affect AXM, and characters from all over the Marvel U. weaved in and out of it), or just that you're stating the obvious, that the above art does not relate to AXM?

Any info on the frst issue release date?
9. (446.58)
I made some educated guesses based on what I see as Warren Ellis's stylistic preferences (as I see them, not as he sees them) and Marvel's probable need (same). But past me having a little fun with that, I honestly have no idea, and suspect this is not the place for anymore speculation, especially based on covers of other books. hah.

Suspects a red label may appear.

Edit: typo - what else is new.

Huh...so what are we wupposed to be talking about in this thread?

And I only posted that cover as I thought it may have an affect on appearing characters. That and I'm not liking the look of the new younger team.

if fraction does end up with that book, i will actually be reading two xmen titles for the first time since like 1993. is it sad that i am excited for the end of whedon/cassady axm just to see where things are left for warren? no.
