it seemed like spacehawk is a very camp version of Splinter Cell....In Spaaaace! Hence the trifocals. Was aiming for a retro-grim, different from the original.

Tried experimenting with different versions of a dome helmet, sort of a deep-sea-diver rig as a hazard suit type deal. Helmet's supposed to open up, 'unfold' I guess would be the word.

Couldn't resist throwing in a monocle in the sans-helmet view. Also, er, I can't draw hands very well. And maybe arms too. Oops.

if i've learned anything from modern science fiction it's that if you want to go grim, you've got to have crying. when my spacehawk is not killing alien riffraff, he stares at the stars, reflecting on the loneliness of his quest and pining for old lovers. grim ain't pretty.

The original description got me thinking this guy was very much in the same vein as John Wayne, and Ronald Reagan, very stoic and mas macho. And thinking about Reagan naturally led to my thinking about SDI, and that led to speculating about what Reagan would had done had we been faced with an extra-terrestrial threat. Throw in a bit of what that poor bastard Krikalyov must have felt being abandoned on Mir while his country disintegrated beneath him, and - well, I've probably said too much already:

Roo: Loved it. Especially the Weapon.

There were plenty of others I liked as well.

lX: I love the mood in yours. I want to read the rest of the issue immediately.

Nice entries, everyone! I'm really enjoying these. Paul Sizer, that's a fantastic logo-can't wait to see what else you come up with! Axel Medellin- I love the design on that suit. Fantastic job! I tried to have a little fun with mine, and go for some extra grit. Whatever those little blue bastards did, you can be sure they're sorry for it now.

Here's SpaceHawk just after battle, doing some frontline patching-up. Being alone and always running from battle to battle, he basically just grabs and grafts anything usefull in places where he just lost some tissue.

Also, in the back, his trusty space ship, "The Fucking Dart"

I can't stop laughing that Felipe's (excellent) SPACEHAWK can't use a coaster, but he's carefully aiming for the ashtray. But it's the expression on Martin's gritty-toon that's winning me over.

EDIT: I increased the size a bit.

@AlexMedellin's: Wow, man. I raise my hat. @Tim Hamilton: MUA-HA-HA-HA-HA-HA! @Sobreiro: Amazing work, just like all your previous sketches.
