If there's anyone here who is a t-shirt printer, and who would like to collaborate on producing a batch of Arse Eels Surfwear t-shirts for the Whitechapel members, I'm in.
The man known only as SpaceHawk has spent decades protecting the earth, fighting a self proclaimed war on alien invaders.
His struggle has left him a dark, bitter man. At home in the dead cold of space, looking down like a shadowy guardian angel on the people of earth.
It has been a long and lonely road, saving mankind.
If only he had read the instruction manual on his universal translator.
I'm not much on the story ideas, but basically I thought it would be funny if Spacehawk's translator was set wrong and all of the aliens he murdered the shit out of over the years were actually peaceful and trying to bring peace and friendship to mankind. I would make him a dark, brooding misguided Punisher/Batman of space. A hard drinking, hard smoking, shoot first and shoot those who ask questions later type.
Not sure how much series longevity that would have but like I said, I'm not a story guy. And I'm just attempting to be an art guy.
@JMicaels: And succeeding! Nice one. Very very late, but I have good excuses. Flew out for a friend's wedding, then moved house the night I got back. New house tried to kill us with hay fever for 2 days til we scrubbed and bleached it clean. Spacehawk: Wings in his hair, like Paulie from the Sopranos. Hawk-like nose. Talon hands and feet, which help with the alien killing. Why is he standing on a giant brain? I have no idea. I really wanted to make him more like a Space Falconer, but the filth was not in me. Perhaps next time. Might colour him later for fun. Apologies for the hugeness of the image.
Dang, but there's some fine artwork in this thread! @PaulSizer, thanks for the nice comment. Think I'm going to have to quote you in my gallery :-) @Greasemonkey, count me in for one of those tshirts too ;-)
Is there something wrong with me that I feel a little thrill when I see that the sticky from one of thee has been removed, meaning the next one's on the way?
My art is very much of the "give it to a proper artist as a vague thumbnail and let them make it look not-awful" level, but what the hey, big dead-eyed bastards in space armour and combat boots are always appealing even if he did come out looking like Tahmoh Penikett in Battlestar Galactica.
JMichaels: Amazing. I really dig the European look and the mistranslation bent is funny as hell. I picture from his perspective a bunch of cuddly looking aliens offering him flowers, but their dialogue would read: "Die SpaceBitch!!!"
Rick Damn Lacy: Just cool.
Also, if Warren isn't giving us any new remake cannon fodder later today, are we going to have to come up with a character by ourselves? I guess we'll see what Warren does...
@frequentcontributor: I'm not sure, but once again I'd love to put my vote in for Little Nemo. Beautiful turn of the century comic strips and I'm sure the redo of any of the other characters would be a great challenge to people out there.
