   Got it, read it, really liked it. I can't say I love it yet (although Erskine's art was bringing fond memories of MINISTRY right the way through), but it's started solidly, with a nice build and establishment of character and tension.
   
   It's filling a small hole in my monthly purchases nicely; I'm quite liking a lot of Virgin's range so far.

   A little late, but I just read the thing and didn't much care for it. I generally enjoy Ennis and his varied styles, but this was altogether too dry, too bland, too old hat. And very little actually happened that made me give a damn about any of the characters. Being mostly unfamiliar with Dan Dare (besides reading about the character), I felt like Ennis may have been relying too heavily on people being acquainted with his personality and motivations, which left the rest of us with just a very drab character. Your generic hero.
   
   Besides that, I really didn't enjoy the art. I don't usually complain about the look of comics unless they're really awful because, really, in most cases even ugly art works. But this seemed far too amateur for the project and the spaceships themselves looked like silvery loofahs. Plus, every few panels, someone made an inexplicably weird face and Dan himself seemed to be wearing a very ill-fitting fur coat. I feel like the overall package (pencils, inks and colors) were all just very ick, to use a professional industry term.
   
   That said, there's nothing to really make me want to buy the following issue. Which is too bad, because I could do with some serious space opera adventures. Fear Agent will have to do for now.
   
   Edit: I should also note that I think this is the sort of thing that may end up better as a GN. And that, in a way, is another detractor because on first hearing about the project it sounded like it would be more of a serial adventure. In other words, I was hoping for something different and while I'm sure it may wind up being better later, I don't have the cash or patience to watch it drag along.

   Morrison and Hughes' Dan Dare has haunted me since I read it years ago. One of the bleakest and most nihilistic things I've ever read, which is odd considering Morrison is usually an optimist.
   
   I miss the Dan Dare strips from 2000AD all those decades ago. Bellardinelli and Gibbons on art; gorgeous stuff. I'd love it if Rebellion gave them the reprint treatment they've given some of their other titles.

   I was not thrilled with the art, but I didn't hate it. The story wasn't terrific as a standalone, but issue #1's of this type can be difficult in that regard. Maybe the first chapter didn't thrill, but that doesn't mean it might not be an excellent book. It's Ennis, so I'll give it a chance and see what comes.

   I enjoyed it, for me I am not usually a big Ennis fan and I liked what I read. And Erskine's art which I have liked for a while was even better than usual.

    As an American, I've had very little exposure to Dan Dare as Living Printed Icon. So my assessment may seem skewed.
    
    That one panel aside, I really felt like I was reading Ministry of Space Pt II.
    
    Which is by no means an insult, just that between the art and the tone, it felt like a fastforward on that same alternate history.
    
    I'll actually be picking up issue 2, and I largely swore off Ennis since he started tossing the word 'n#gger' around in his panels.

    Virgin has been pretty good about collecting their stuff, and considering how hard they've been marketing this one, I doubt it'll be one to fall through the cracks.
