    I was there in the 90s, I witnessed so many of these drawings, now I abuse commas and my eyes bleed every fucking day. All day. Oh, I was about 11 when Liefeld's Youngblood came out.

    ,,,,, see? Ha. I don't give a fuck.

    While I agree that it was a funny segment, and while I get the author's "I'm-so-sarcastic-it's-funny" schtick, I could have done without the rash generalizations on the current state of comics. It isn't like there's some Golden Time of comics to go back to when Superman simply talked jive at criminals and they simpered into spacious prison cells.

    Oh my, horseshit: "I'm a little more bitter about the loss of innocence than Bill, but we both don't appreciate Garth Ennis having Superman demand blowjobs in a comic and expecting people to call him a genius. People do. People suck."

    Never mind the volumes of work Ennis has behind him or what a title like The Boys might be saying about exactly the kind of person who might say such a quote. I just hate seeing this kind of generalization get thrown that way.

    Because Rob Liefeld's guns don't shoot bullets. They shoot fucking magic.

    i saw this a few weeks ago, it is wondrous. i was also 11 when youngblood came out and for a few years...rob liefeld...was...my favorite artist. i think i actually own like 37 of the 40 scenes shown. seriously. its actually funnier that way i think, because its not only horrible art, but for people of my age ( i assume) its funnier with the added effect of " DEAR GOD? I BOUGHT THAT COMIC?!!?!?! WHY?!?!"

    edit: you are right though, some of the shit those guys say is trying way too hard, but a good chunk of it is pretty funny.

    That was hysterical.

    Kind of makes you think, though... maybe kids don't read comics anymore because Rob Liefeld doesn't draw them (very much). I know when I was twelve, I thought Youngblood and Youngblood-era Image Comics were pretty cool. Maybe to "save comics," all they have to do is jack up the gun sizes and number of pouches and tune down the feet and/or human skeletal placement. Maybe we've lost something valuable in our comics since 1992. A certain... recklessness, perhaps.

    Oh, I think the article is hilarious. But when they even so much as attempt to delve into real comics talky land, it slides downhill into generalizations, simplifications, and other (insert)-cations. Unspeakable ones.

    I remember buying a few issues of Youngblood, reading them, and never buying another. I remember thinking at age 11 or 12 that they were such horrible comics. Mind you, this was back when the Silvestri/Green/Hamma triad of doom was finally turning the monthly Wolverine into a Marvel powerhouse, albeit of sales and not necessarily of quality. But in retrspect, I'll gladly take a suddenly Southern Logan taking swords through his whole chest (Logan versus the lightning-drug-eating Yakuza, someone produce a pic?) over anything Liefeld has ever touched.

    Actually, I'd read the current ongoing Wolverine Origins over anything Liefeld. And that's scraping bottom.

    I owned a ton of X-force comics, so I did (and still do) have a lot of the comics that showed up in that. I remember Liefeld left X-Force and that I liked the new artist much more. I told my friend this and she was like "I can't see how you can like a cartoony style over a realistic style", to which I could only think how is Liefeld's is stuff all that realistic? I do think his small feet are why today I like designs where characters have over sized feet.

    The article was pretty amusing, but I think there is some even worse art by him, and it could have been about half as long.

    I look at 90's comics today and go "Dear god what were we thinking?"

    That just taught me more than a year and a half at art school did about how not to draw. I'm very, very glad I was a dumb snobby little kid in the nineties who wouldn't touch comics with a pool cue.

    I also thought that was a terrible generalization (and I love the blowjob scene, it kills me), but the rest of the article is hilarious.

    I'm having a time out until I can learn some manners.
    Yep Ennis is a genius ,I just finished the first half of the Wormwood TPB and it is subtle and funny and brilliant. This article was so damn funny I almost choked to death more than once though.
    Some of their complaints were just they did not like the style and it offended them that he made more money than they did but damn was some of that ever hilarious.
    The part about the thing and the torch having it off in the missionary position and the Torches lovingly drawn buttocks was great. I never liked the whole Liefield and Mcfarlane style and did not get back into comics as an adult until after it died but it was an image comic that did it. The Darkness#19 had a great cover and I picked it up. I then went and picked up some back issues and then the first couple TPBs which were by Garth Ennis.
