I just woke up, it's 71F outside, with the high today predicted at 82F. Yeah, it's frickin unseasonably warm. I plan to stay as far away from any shopping center/stores/crazy people as possible today (the cheap candy is tempting). Lots of snow here on the west coast of Canada. Well, lots for us anyway. About 50cm so far and another 10cm expected by tonight, along with 90km/h winds. This is the snowiest holiday season I can ever remember and it's made traveling anywhere a nightmare. Thankfully, I don't really have to go anywhere anytime soon.

I've had a really good Christmas tho. Close friends, family and LOTS of amazing food. I'm sure my arteries are not thanking me but I'll worry about that in the new year. And there is no way I'm going anywhere near any shopping centers today! Made it through Christmas just fine. Brunch with the family (made easier by the bottle of bubbly I drank with my orange juice) followed by playing games with a friend and the wife until another couple joined us for California Jewish Christmas Dinner (aka Chinese food) to celebrate the other woman's birthday (also on the 25th). Then back to our house for wine and Settlers of Catan. Holiday has been quite fine. No overwhelming drama, no one is terribly sick. Niece was an energetic bundle but nothing ended up broken, no tears or time outs. It's been chilly but I'm going take advantage of the considerably better weather (than NYC) and go for a long walk.

Though this house is strikingly lacking in real coffee and alcohol. My holiday was nice... I got a new Wacom tablet, a telescope (pretty useless here in the city, but you never know), and a George-Forman-Grille.

And it's shockingly warm here in Rochester, NY. 4F last week, and now it's shot up to 50F... I didn't even have to wear gloves when I went dumpster diving last night!

for example- i reconnected with family, and got pretty much everything on my list, including one of my best friends back (talk about miracles...), number 1 of which being, nearly 2 grand in car repairs (i'm still a little blown away that the folks pretty much just shelled it out).

meanwhile, the wimin's dad had to practically be cattle-prodded into going to the hospital because he was dizzy and losing vision. this is probably somehow a result of the 10 percent liver, and completely failed pancreas, and vomiting blood (so now he's anemic, too) that are in turn the result of 10 years of raging alcoholism. at the hospital, they were surprised he didn't have alcohol poisoning, his BAC was that high. it took all 3 of his kids, 3 firefighters, 2 cops and 2 paramedics to convince him to go.
