I'm doing it early, to surprise you. You'll have nine days or so for this one.
There was, way back in the mists of... 2007... a recurrent meme among several comics art blogs. Reclaiming characters from their owners, I guess it could be broadly described as... people were reimagining abused characters (chiefly Supergirl) as artistic call-and-response in various places, chiefly LiveJournal. In the aftermath of that, I did a similar thing on old messageboard The Engine, called REMAKE/REMODEL. They were embraced as technical exercises, bits of fun, ways to get the brain moving. I think most people's favourite was the dear late Mike Wieringo's wondrous retro-aristo Buck Rogers...
I thought it might be an interesting thing to bring back here. So, once a week, I'll call a character, and you art types here can post images of your reinterpretation of that character.
Photography and digital art is also fine, before anyone asks.
The point is REinterpretation: remake/remodel.

The Black Angel has an incredibly good name (for 1942). She appeared in a backup strip in AIR FIGHTERS comic for 22 issues. Appeared briefly in the 1980s in AIRBOY. And, well, here's the deal:
Sylvia Manners lived in a castle somewhere outside London that had an underground hangar in which she kept her plane. She took on the secret identity of The Black Angel to fight Nazis on an entirely freelance basis. And that's it.
Oh, and this:
But, seriously: dresses as some mental idea of the Angel Of Death, apparently single-handedly converted the dungeons of the ancestral home into a launching system for a warplane, blasts the shit out of Nazis in the air and on the ground. Beat that shit with a stick.
Your task is, therefore, to update The Black Angel (or reinvent the period version into something that makes sense -- or NO sense! -- if you like) and render the character into something you'd be interested in reading today.

I look forward to seeing what you come up with, but bear in mind this is an ART thread, and pen-portraits and other texts will be deleted. (And if you don't know what a pen-portrait is, go back to your school and insist that they provide you with a proper education.)
Note to self: In future try to avoid drawing stuff that requires photo references of deep sea creatures, whale skulls and porn. Now I must go and rinse my eyeballs.
Ass-kicking female with a plane? I'm on it! Thanks for the new REMAKE: my life has been a sucking, lifeless void without this distraction... Shutting up and drawing now!
@nygaard: spacewhaaaaaale! awesome :D @lx: that's so very awesome. it's like joh paul leon doing shadow cabinet all over again. @annie: that face is great. there's a woman not to cross. @scottS: i love the skull sticker on the helmet!
@everyone else or i'll be here all day: this is the best thread yet, amazing stuff from everyone, keep it up!
it's threads like this which make me wish I could draw... never mind, I'll just enjoy everyone else's art instead! @lordmitz - just noticed the revolver heels, they're awesome! I can't wait to see that one with colour :D
Black Angel, young Czech genius forced to flee to Britain in '40. On her back is a personal Scramjet of her own design. She haunts the Channel picking off Ratzis, etc.
(Some detail lost to Flickr shrinkage, bigger version here.)
Something a little more aviation appropriate. I liked that little collar thing she had going on, so I tried to echo that. Think of the outfit as a sort of modified bomber jacket one-piece.
Placeholder image while I work on the main images/concepts. The damn graphic designer in me has to brand everything first, so...
Meanwhile @struthersneil: Holy Toledo! That is... amazing friend! @lx: as always, very jealous of your beautiful, loose drawings! @annie: Nice first submission, come back and do more!
@struthersneil Beautiful linework and great details! Also very 40's-feeling! @Annie Gorgeous! Vampy! @Paul Thank you! Great logo! I imagine the ideograms say "Black Angel" ?
