my god, i sure hope this gets optioned for a movie. anna is the best read out there right now. popcorn with butter. thanks to both warren and facundo-percio. just damn good stuff!
this has been a great week for comics! dok #11 on the hills of #10 made me insane for #12. i knew anna mercury #5 was the end of mission #1 but i was caught off guard when it was the end of this arc of gravel. mike's artwork was tremendous! then those first few pages of no hero #3 blew me away. thanks mr. ryp for the incredible art. the color was amazing too....then i realized all of my favorite comics are written by the holy spirit of the internet. thanks reverend ellis! avatar has left the other publishers in the dust... happy new year whitechapel !!
I found mission #1 thoroughly enjoyable. As alluded to upthread, it has a slight 'popcorn movie' feel to it, but that's not to say the concept lacks smarts.
When does mission #2 hit the shelves? Also, while I don't want to fish for spoilers, will Anna visit any of the other 'wordlets'?
Don't think we have a date for ANNA MERCURY 2: ULTRASPACIAL DREADNOUGHT VANAHEIM, but I think it's sometime this summer. And, yes, she will visit another site in the Constellation.
'Ultraspacial Dreadnought Vanaheim' - that title alone is all I need to hear for now. Someone should form a prog rock band with that name. Looking forward to it.
I haven't had a chance to mention it anywhere else, just wanted to compliment you on the design conceit of the GIANT HAIR. It's the Shadows scarf and Superman's cape and Doc Savages torn shirt all in one. So simple yet perfect. Loved the series. The sequel tittle is berserk.
Yes, I know Anna Mercury was coming back in a second mini-series, so she was obviously not going to get killed. Still, issue #4 ended in deep Deep Shit territory: injured, unarmed, running out of time, and on the business ends of half a dozen armed fanatics' guns. Bravo, sir, you surprised me with Anna's escape and completion of her mission.
Apropos of nothing, the SDCC costume contest needs to be livened up by a drag queen dressed up as Anna Mercury.
OK, I just finished the last issue. Blew me away. I was kind of saddened by the bleakness of the ending, though. I feel like Anna just has a really thankless life. Like someone pointed out, her non-mission life is boring and humdrum, and then when she damn near dies trying to save Sheol and New Ataraxia at the end of this issue, she just gets "Tons of people still died. You need to do better. Next briefing is in 24 hours." It just seems like a really Sisyphean way to live, to me. I have to wonder how well Anna is holding up, psychologically. I hope that question is explored more thoroughly in one of the later stories.
I liked the series, the blowing up of the big gun was cool. I don't think her boss was dressing her down at the end for failing, he was more or less saying, you did what you could.
I'm hoping we get to see or find out what went wrong with some of the other agents that got sent over. We get told that the job drives them insane or they die these horrible deaths, so I am hoping one of these mad bastards pops up to see how crazy is crazy or we get to see the fate of some of the other agents.
I also wonder do the Russians or the Chinese know about these worlds? If so, are they trying to get to the sites? That is an angle I thought about, in your classic cold war kind of way.
