nah. not enough pornface. sexualized violence usually has some visual cues to it, but the artists he works with, while good, don't tend towards sexy.
garth ennis's characters are the butts of the universe's jokes. i liked preacher and punisher, but i have difficulty reading almost anything else he's done. too much laser-guided universal cruelty.
When I said it was pornographic in its content I meant that it tended to just show the money shots just for the sake of showing them. Violence for violence sake... Like porn is sex for the sake of showing sex. -Edit: Not that I don't like Ennis don't get me wrong. I have all the Preacher's and think they are awesome. I was refering to other work... Namely Crossed which I kind felt was a poor man's walking dead.
It's kind of like Mr. Ennis is daring you to keep reading his comics.
I'm sticking with The Boys to the very end, one because I'm invested at this point, and two I actually like The Boys. I picked up Crossed because I like Ennis, no other reason, and after two? issues...
(which one had the mother/father/baby being raped & cannibalized after the discovery that salt had no effect on the Crossed?)
...I was done. I'm usually a stickler. If I am interested enough to pick up a miniseries, I follow it through to the end. Ennis had finally gone too far for me, after loving Preacher, Hitman, The Boys, and many others.
In The Boys, he said he would "out-Preacher Preacher", but even then I find it not nearly as grotesque as Crossed, and I agree, almost pornographically so. At the same time, I applaud him for still doing what he wants to do, and keeping a fan base who loves him for it.
I'm going to try and keep reading The Boys but I was so put off by Herogasm aside from the actual story in the final quarter of it. It just seemed like sex for sex's sake.
@megrar: I recommend Ennis' War Stories and Battlefield comics. They're just as good stories, but without the gratuity that may put you off something like Crossed or The Boys. Also, he works with some really top-notch artists for both series.
NOOOOO. I missed Andre. Did Klaus scare him away so he'll never come back? Did you guys talk about food (in direct proportion to how much of a diet Andre's trying)? SO MANY QUESTIONS.

I was wondering why there were posts that looked like IRC formatting. Boo. That should be mentioned somewhere in say...the first post. ;) I saw how old this thread was...but, damn. ;)
