I will attest for any warry of chats that the people in there tend toward being just as friendly as on here, they're just quicker about it.

The chat system seems to be function fairly well, without a lot of the pain of some other web base chat systems. That said, I do wish it was one that tied to an IRC system (or even Jabber), so I could run it in a separate app rather than my web browser.

This is a personal preference, of course, but hopefully something to consider for the future.

yeah, I'd lean toward Nadreck's preference as well for a seperate app.

Not sure it'll be too much of a problem on here, as everyone seems to be lovely, but it seems you can set your screen name to whatever you want, which means anyone can impersonate anyone else. Could potentially be nasty in the wrong hands. Otherwise, seems to run fine.

Cheers, Z, helpful as always. If I find myself chatting regularly, I'll be sure to register. As if anyone would want to impersonate me anyway!

And mine is to have nothing to do with IRC.

    @warrenellis:

Aww. How about a telnet based system? Or XMPP (Jabber)? Both are quite capable of handling chatrooms, can be easily embedded into a webpage, but also are friendly to using another app.

It's definitely not an ax I'm looking to grind, just curious.

Listen, the Gabbly system Just Works, and it's On Someone Else's Server. Ticks all the boxes for me.

@Warren- Works for me, too. good, easy stuff for a nontechsavvy girl, and there seems to be a solid group of folk there. It's simple. It looks good. It works fine for what it's used for.
    edit- omg. Page2!

Yeah, page 2, I know... I'll de-sticky this on Monday...

Is there a possibility we could have a thread to bump, just to let people know that the chat is still inhabited?

Ben, there's a pretty active group of folks in the market-- new folks will find the link or this thread as they go through the Main Junction.

Chat seems pretty active from 11am est -4am, something like that.
    It's awake when I am.

It's active earlier before that too, for people who can't handle those hours on the east coast. It seems to pick up around 4-5pm EST. After work crowd, maybe?

I shall be back to haunt you all in the chat tomorrow. I'm kinda tired today.

I'm sure that Z is missing me terribly.
