yet again. warren and paul, kick arse and take names. this issue in some strange way finally put the 'freak' in freakangels. outstanding is every aspect. all of the angels are showing attributes and personally that appeals on several levels. i have a feeling we are headed towards a 'kill'em all, let God sort them out' moment. it should be glorious.

for me, this is the thesis of the episode (and possibly the moral of this arc), and applicable as much to us pre-apocalyptic "normal" humans as to our purple-eyed friends in whitechapel.

one of my biggest issues/goals for this new year is staying calm and cool, and somewhat rational. I live with my mom and brother, and have a tendency to lose patience with them very easily. I was trying to explain to my little bro how I'm really impatient with myself and I'm just projecting or taking it out on them sometime... but yeah... we could all use a little introspective time pondering the consequences of our personal and collective anger and stupidity, agreed?

[read in dramatic cartoon announcer voice]

For once I have no antifreakangel sentiment. This was a really good "human" episode and showed the FA to be just that. Human. They maybe superhuman, metahuman, whatever, but they were generally acting like real people. With the exception of Arkady, who was behaving like the shopkeeper in Mr. Ben.
Real people, with a grievance, and for the first time in about 10 episodes, I felt some empathy for them again, Miki provided an excellent balance, a voice of reason.
Stupendous pacing, I can't believe how one episode has somewhat altered my perceptions.

Graphically. I liked that the "teleport" has no flashy graphic or effect. It lends a definate quite surreal quality to the act. Your'e not here, your here. Your'e not there, your'e there.

I'm not dead. but the 3 or so months of kidney pain makes me wonder if its not on the cards.

Woo Freakangel drama and teensy bit more parceled out about their backstory. A whole lot more about their possible powers - and of course where they are in their understanding of said powers. Nifty. Of course, plot wise a bit scary since who knows where Luke (and potentially Mark) are in their understanding/development.

I like Mikki lots. Dare I hope? A militant peacemaker?

Alice knew about the FreakAngels because Mark supposedly told her. My geography is crap for England so I'm not clear if she's from the London area but (obviously) outside of Whitechapel, or from another region entirely. I wonder about this because I wonder exactly who knew about the FreakAngels before The End outside of Whitechapel. Were they pale skinned, purple haired kids taunted by the locals or were they known as [other] (test tube babies, freak science experiments, etc) and on and off the news far and wide? Wonderin'.

I have been just reading and lurking on the White Chapel.
So new.
But I just wanted to say how great Freak Angels is.

I really did enjoy the teleportation I found it far more believable then a light of some sort.
I like Mikki's little speech about always staying angry.
And I love Arkady's little talk about looking through the controls and figuring things.
Two wonderful things that add a sort of depth to this comic that I don't think any other comic has.
This really was a human episode, and it was really good.

Can't wait to see what you have in store.

As for Arkady, she's not "insane" per se, she just using more of her brain than everyone else is. Or a different part of her brain... Einstien or Beethoven were considered crazy (and stupid) but they were really just functioning differently than we are. It makes them a little odd to us because we cant wrap our head around it. Same with Arkady.

I loved that page one was divided into two long vertical panels to illustrate length. It really worked, was very beautiful. Nice one Paul Duffield. From a technical perspective, much better and more accomplished than Best New Manga Vol.2 :P Incidentally, I hear Vol.3 is out already.

Also, if you're looking for books which culminate with 'let there be light', try the Hex trilogy by Rhiannon Lassiter. Amazing books, especially the first one.

So, looks like Miki is the voice of reason and restraint. About time someone was. I like fuck-up twentysomething as much as everyone else but the less agreement, the more tension within the group of FAs, the better :D

I seem to remember them mentioning that Arkady hadn't been quite right since her "overdose"...that she was a little off...
plus her disregard for nudity, her childlike mentality, and the fact that they kind of "protect" her when things go down dangerously kinda lent to the view that she's a little crazy...
crazy though...doesn't mean incompetent...far from it...
and I'd also kinda like to say that in my opinion most of the characters have ISSUES...

I'm not, really. It just seemed like a reasonable culmination to characters potentially gaining godlike power. Plus, despite what Warren said, recall two things: A) Freakangels is supposed to last for quite a while and B) Warren is easily capable of lying to us about any and all plot developments prior to them actually occurring in the series.

Lovely episode. I like how we get to know the characters a little at the time.

I don't know anything of Warren's feelings about Sandman, he might kill me, but Arkady often reminds me a bit of Delirium. All strange and childish and random, but knows more than the rest and can act sane when it's needed.

I'm alive but that's all. Things are so dull. Slept 18 hours. Think I might go for a walk.

Karl rocks. I have hopes for Luke. Nothing really indicates he's a Mark, it's quite human to give in to power when you know you have it, and it seems he's had a ruff time. Sure he's an asshole. Sure he doesn't do the "right thing" like Miki does. But it takes a pretty special person to DO the ethnically right thing in the situation the angels are in. After all we're still mostly cave men when you brush off the layer of modern humanity.

I waited until recently to read through all of Freakangels in one or two sittings...this whole waiting for next weeks episode is indeed depressing...

and I still want to see the "cop" chick (Kait?) die...don't get me wrong. I like her character...I just like to see characters like her die...:P

@Pooka I want something less expected. I'd love to see smarter work. These are 'smart' people defending their turf - not animals. I'd like to see co-opting the 'innocents' among the antagonists' cannon fodder rather than a quick death ...

I rather liked the first attack. Maximum fire power, minimum mind power. But I think if I had mind powers, I wouldn't hold back on 'em. I'd use them up front and often... but then again, the first attack was during the day with all the non-super-humans around.

This continues to impress me. I like the slow burning pacing... or perhaps it just feels like that because we get six pages at a time. I love the way the characters are slowly developing. Arkady is great, at first she kinda annoyed me, but how can you not love a slightly unbalanced teleporting girl?

Do we even know if they can die? I mean, they thought they killed Mark but if he made it to Manchester then they obviously didn't. And I'm guessing they will have made a pretty thorough attempt. I don't recall seeing a Freakangel injured other than by another FA. I doubt they are immortal, it'd make things pretty dull after the original 'AMAGAD I'M STILL ALIVE!' moment, but might be an interesting twist if more of them go rogue (I'm seeing a big turning themselves into a swirly vortex of destruction in order to kill the bad ones but consuming themselves in the process kinda thing here). And making a weapon that'd work against a FA might give KK something better to do with her time.

I mention that scene because Alice's knife drew blood from Conner's throat, so she was able to physically harm him. That said, the Freakangels (or at least Conner and probably Miki) apparently have the ability to repair wounds in themselves and others to at least a limited degree. I haven't noticed any scars or scratches on Conner's throat despite Alice slicing into it. I also recall Conner focusing on Alice's head wound right after KK dropped the full canteen on her. It seemed as though he was healing her. My thought is that unless something kills a Freakangel outright or knocks them unocnscious, they can use their psionic powers to repair whatever damage they've received.

I guess we really need Warren or Paul to confirm or deny that.

I may be a FreakAngel here, but if I get some skin cracked open or a little gash, I just need to bandage it up for a few hours til a scab forms over. Seems that's what Connor and Alice ended up doing there. Connor had a bandage around his neck after his cut. It may have bled a lot, but it looked like only a little cut. Although Jack's telepathy was hindered after his knock-out. They could probably be killed if they are unable to use their powers to protect themselves.
But they're most likely very quick healers, either way.
