I think you're right SteadyUP. I'm curious to see how that works out. How do the 5 resurrect?
The interesting thing about Ellen being the 5th is that it explains the mystery of her appearance in the fleet back in Season 1. If she died in the attack on the colonies and then resurrected in the fleet then it would seem likely that the same thing could happen to the rest of the final 5.
If that’s what happened that is. It goes towards what RDM said about the final 5 being fundamentally different to the other Cylons. -
Of course, all the evidence we have of ressurection is before the Ressurection Ship was destroyed. It's possible there's a secret one for the Final Five, but it's also possible that the same rules apply for the other ones. If the other models weren't programmed to even think about them, who's to say that the Five weren't in the same ship?
I dunno. Just throwing something out. Plus, in accordance with the tone, there not being a seperate thing for the Five would probably add more desolation and despair. -

Good point.
I read somewhere that RDM implied that Cavil knew who the 5 were the whole time which might prove your theory right. Either way i'm curious to see where it goes on this. The idea that they may be able to resurrect without a resurrection ship would open up even more questions about the true nature of the 5 which appeals to me. -

But if they wind up modifying the drives before the Cylons arrive and it proves to be sabotage, they're dead.
Does anybody even know that the modifications would work? No one on the fleet seems to understand the tech, and there hasn't been evidence of superior Cylon jumping ability in the past. Maybe the rebel Cylons have repented, and are setting up the humans as their "We're sorry" gift to the other Cylons. -

It's a weird idea, but if the current humans are cylons, then the final five's genetic code could be in everyone. Instead of instantaneous resurrection one of the 5 could awake in the next born child and this may have been going on for thousands of years with deep genetic programming helping the five guide things into the cycle.

@Tominator2 - Perhaps they've proposed to use the humans as fuel.
And you know, give them a pleasant simulated environment while they're chilling in the fuel tanks. -

Yeah, but the guy saying that was Tom Zarek, who would say just about anything to get the reaction he wants. I just don't see something that would be that shocking being revealed in the preview.
What was more interesting was Laura's reaction: I AM COMING FOR ALL OF YOU.
A little Laura kickassery would be the only thing that comes close to the awesome of Adama with a frakking machine gun.
And, at this point? I'll take anything as a beacon of light. I'm almost dreading watching the damn thing, week to week. -

About Ellen and resurrection...the concept of the "five" didn't come up until season 2 or 3, when Baltar was going to spend significant time with the Cylons, and without a change in plan he would have seen them all. I also understand that the choices of which characters who'd be in the five were "drawn from a hat". The reason I point this out is that Ellen's appearence in season 1 was before they had decided on the five, so there may be a continuity problem that needs to be addressed. My guess is the simpliest way would be that she didn't die, contrary to what people had thought. Otherwise RDM will have to come up with a really complicated explanation for the five
I'm thinking a simple explanation would be something like they "reincarnate" every generation, starting as babies, growing up and old, and dying, to start again, rather than the Caprica cylon models that ressurrect at the same general age each time. -

Other than the Raider piloted by Starbuck jumping from Kobol all the way to Caprica in one go at the end of Season 1. Or the Raptor rescue force modified with a Cylon jump drive jumping from practically New Caprica all the way back to Old Caprica in just a couple of jumps at the end of Season 2. -
Does anybody even know that the modifications would work?
I can't help thinking that the Cylon FTL drives are ultimately a Trojan horse, either allowing the Cylons to track the fleet via their energy signature, or worse, allow them to shut it down altogether. -

Is it wrong that I hear Laura as the Wicked Witch of the West addressing Gaeta as Dorothy with "I'm coming for you and your little leg too!"
Of course, whenever I hear that line I also think "Wait, how is public masturbation going to help with-, Oh. Coming with an "o." I get it now..."

I think we will certainty see Ellen as an example of what ever the plan was originally put into place. Sigh's death in the previews might follow likewise (an obvious way to have a reunion) or might be simply in show propaganda-promotion game playing.
And Johnjones, it is 2009 - everyone sides with Elphaba now anyway. -

Re-incarnation is the most logical explanation for the five's resurrection but RDM loves over-complicating things sometimes succesfully and sometimes not.
Ellen's first appearance in season 1 has always bugged me. The fact that she was found unconcious days after the exodus on a ship that no one remembers seeing her on and then the whole thing with Baltar refusing to say whether she was a Cylon or not to Head six has always annoyed me. I know the episode was one of the few "comedy" episodes but it always bugged me as silly as that may sound. -
@Mythical_Bird As far as I understand it it wasn't quite "out of a hat", but wasn't planned from the start.
Once they got to the point of needing to decide the Final Five, at the start of series 3, they went through everyone and tried to work out who would work... the reappearance of Ellen fitted that decision.
Also remember the reporter 6 who just "appeared" - that hasn't been explained yet either... -
Given the existence of jump drive technology, short-range teleportation doesn't seem unreasonable for the Cylons.

I think we can all agree the show has not had a clear and absolute, well let us call it a plan, from the first day.
The writers are open about it, and admit that they have moved with what seem to be natural developments as the story goes. It seems clear that season 3 and 4 have been following a much more directed path then the previous seasons, and a number of events in season 1 especially do not track all that well with the later seasons. The clearest example of this seems to be the movement from clearly literal mythic-religious underpinnings (the end of season 1 especially) to religious symbolism with implications of SF under pinning. Entire characters have been lost, and character relationships have been shuffled or forgotten. And the show has often suffered mid to late season troubles, though season 4 seems to be avoiding the trap 2 and 3 fell into. I love the show, but I still can't re-watch the latter half of season 3 to be honest. The less said about "The Woman King" the better.
What we have seen is a consistent attempt at, and often great success at soft SF at its best. Social meditations and explorations of the human character, morals and identity via a SF set piece. What we can hope for is that when the last episodes airs we have general answers to major questions (what made the final 5 different, what is Starbuck, what was the order of events last time) and we might have to let many minor ones (why did the Cylons so freely go from talking about 12 models to making it 7 and 5 special secret ones, and hey what happened to the glowing spines, and what was with the egg harvest exactly?) go. We can also hope the show continues to push the moral grey areas, and gives us shocking and explosive acts of violence. And Starbuck shooting people in the face.
Expecting solid hard SF answer to the whys and mechanics of the process and how it impacts the story, a genuine look at the technology and reason for it will likely lead to disappointment though. Again not something the show has really focused on since the first season (the very first post miniseries episode remains a classic bit of hard SF, and we had touches of it with early Baltar material but not much of that in a long time). -

How much explanation does it need? She was a Cylon who infiltrated the fleet, much like the Leoben, the D'Anna, and the Doral who did the same.
