it's good, but to deserve 19 pages of this is just a tad too much. -
I don't know whether the writers intended this exactly, but last episode suffered from the same problem I have from time to time with /Lost/ - the Final Five characters stopped talking about the thing that was REALLY on their mind last episode, namely their true origins and what exactly the heck happened, and instead everyone gets caught up in a domestic drama. If I would have been on /Lost/, I'd still be talking about the fucking polar bears every day I was on that durn island.
In this case, the Five drag Ellen to see the one of their own who had all the answers, and then just use the opportunity to fall apart into a domestic squabble? The rest of them aren't dogpiling on Ellen demanding to know what the frack is up with this ressurection stuff anyhow, and oh that dead planet Earth, what's up with that? The idea that they would just drop all that to wallow in the human-all-too-human just doesn't really ring true.
Plus, seeing all of them interacting together, one really starts to wonder how in God's balls the five of them ever came up with resurrection technology and a plan to escape Earth in the first place. -

Last night really didn’t work for me. It’s partially a pacing issue—so much shit got crammed into last week’s episode that some conversations are barely comprehensible. Then this week the brakes get slammed on and we’ve got kooky domestic shit going on, Cavil out of the picture, and no clue where this is all going. Let’s hope that they can pull it all together and clean up the continuity issues so that the show doesn’t fall apart when re-watched on DVD without long breaks between half-seasons. -

Actually I think last night will work better on DVD. It is a slow ep after a few break neck ones, designed to spotlight Ellen and despite the revelation she is a super scientist and the last Cylon, she is still Ellen. These are not fake personalities along with fake memories, which the real work of the episode was aimed at establishing. We can also see the last arc of Baltar, who I think is going to be a martyr of the people after all. Next week needs to pick up the pace, and I suspect the Starbuck/Boomer focus will help.
I do agree we needed more Cavil. I also am a little distracted by the fact I think 3 is indeed just sitting on Earth waiting to die. She is rather important to the "good" Cylons as a narative set piece and I hope that is not brushed off in favor of Ellen's return. -
It was also cool that we get reminded how lucky we were that Moore picked the amazingly talented Tricia Helfer to play Number 6, a character that in lesser hands would've been the "evil bimbo" of the series. It was great watching her talk politely with Ellen and Roslin, while her body language was saying "Get the fuck away from from me you freaky, baby-obsessed old women."

Caprica is so thinly written, though. This past episode fleshed it out some, but I still find myself wondering more of what's going on inside her head. You have a character here who personally destroyed a civilization and is pregnant with a child that could change history, and sometimes the script doesn't quite feel up to the task of showing how she got adapted to domestic life, with Tigh of all people.

Yeah, I’ve been confused by that ever since she had sex with Tigh. Maybe this is the writers’ way of telling us that her manifestation in Baltar’s head is quite real and all we really need to know or…something. But it’s also a great tease to keep the audience coming back. We know she’s more than just a blonde with a great rack, and keep waiting for the writers to prove it. -
Good points all around on Caprica Six. It was really weird to see how unsure of herself she's become, considering what a chrome-plated bitch she was in the beginning. I'm not entirely convinced by the change, though.

That's what happens when you lose your religion, or at least your self-righteousness. You lose your edge and your certainty, but you become more real. Real people are unsure. They fumble around. They want normal things. Caprica's been special and it didn't work out so well for her. Now she just wanted to be with her man, raise her son and step out of as much of the craziness as possible. But this is Battlestar Galactica. And in Battlestar Galactica, the universe likes to shit on your dreams and make you cry.
Tears are the lubricant for the gears of reality. -

I'd agree with you, if we actually saw that happen and didn't just have to infer it or make it up as a reasonable sounding filler explanation. I'm as against Claremont-style monologuing as the next person, but sometimes you DO just need big chunks of inner dialog to make stuff like this work. Ether that or some damn convincing throwaway/bumper secenes. But at least, something!
So I'm not saying I don't believe her character transformation - sure, I agree with your motivations. But, we didn't see it happen. Caprica could just have Stockholm Syndrome or be faking it for all I can tell. -

Adama, Doc Cottle and Helo are (apparently) human. From that information, I can infer that they squat on toilets and take the occasional shit. I don't need to see it happen to be able to believe that it did. Similarly, we've seen enough of Caprica Six throughout the series to gain a good grasp on her psychology and the effects of various events on it. We don't need to see every last detail. -

The softening of Caprica 6 was handled pretty well back at the end of season 2 in the episode where she resurrected on Caprica and was lauded as a Cylon hero and had to talk down Boomer from her suicidal freakout. Her getting all domestic with Tigh makes sense because Baltar dumped her for Deanna and possibly finding out if he was a Cylon in the Algae Planet two parter in season 3, and because Tigh is the first emotional connection she's been allowed to have since she betrayed the Cylons to help Athena get Hera back to Galactica (and the entire 6 line seems to be designed to be extremely emotional). -
I was mostly just delighted to see that Ellen Tigh was still pretty much the same person, with maybe a little more self control (but not much)!
Watching that scene where they are all voting on whether to stay or go the first time, I was struck by how well these final five characters remain real, myopic people. In most science fiction, characters like these turn out to be grand architects of some sort, aloof and all knowing, and if they have flaws they are flaws of too much perfection and arrogance.
The final five, despite being the instigators of this most recent meat-bot project, are just people in the end. They don't know any cosmic secrets. They don't command any transcendent forces. They don't know what to do next, and they are scared. After all the plotting and interplanetary intrigue, they're all, Cylon and Human and Final Five, just people fumbling around at cross purposes after their own self interests. We can see where their ultimate self interests lie, but they can't, not even the ones everyone has been waiting for as a revelation.
It's like if Jesus, Mohammed, Gautama Buddha, Confucious and William Shakespeare all showed up one day, and we found out that none of them had a fucking clue what they should be doing, they couldn't agree on anything and couldn't answer anybody's questions. And they drank and smoked. And then one of them tried to steal some regular person's girlfriend.
It's all so gloriously common!
Plus, more Saul Tigh awesomeness in his unquestioning refusal to leave the ship. Really, he's maybe my favorite character in the show. I thought making him a secret cylon would spoil him, but it sure hasn't. -

Yes, I keep waiting for that crime to be dealt with. I may be one of the only people I know who watches the show and liked Callie. Early on I thought she was super cute, and as she came apart emotionally near the end I found that to be incredibly believable. She didn't deserve the end she got, and I'm afraid that murder may get forgotten.
If it is a dropped plot point, I don't think it'll feel like a mistake or anything - after all, some murders do go unsolved and unpunished. But I'll reserve the right to stay mad about it. -

I think so. Remember how we were talking a little bit about how Chipsix had stopped showing up on the show - and then she appeared on the most recent episode. I don't think the Cally murder has been forgotten and I imagine we'll see Chief (or Hot Dog) go apeshit on Tory before this is over. And speaking of Chipsix, how cool was it to see Gaius back in twitchy, manipulative Baltar mode with his "We need inner strength - gun, Big Guns" speech. It reminded me a little of the one cult leader from Planetary, the issue on the island with all the big monster corpses.
