Had a Twitter account for ages & did nothing with it... then Newskrusher left us, so I use it for quick posts of the kind of Fortean news I liked to share there, plus occasional pimpage of my deathly prose. Find me @catvincent
'Tis I I think Warren blocked me because I replied to his computer woes after he said "Fuck everyone telling me to get a Mac" and my initials are my user name.
^ I wouldn't take it personally, man. I think he just got burned out on Myspace. This is not fact. Just a wild guess on the part of some strange Internet person who reads a lot of Doktor Sleepless.
Applied for a job this morning that had "familiarity with Twitter and Facebook" as a requirement, so I had to cave and join in. Here's my Twitter address. I've rushed through this thread and grabbed a few addresses so I can follow, and will go back and get more when I have time. As I'm new to this and as old as the mountains, I'm not sure about the protocol for doing this, and I hope this is not considered the height of presumption.
@ Neck: This might sound a little paranoid, but do you think they're doing background checks with that info? Or are they asking because knowledge of those sites is relevant to your new job?

Also, to Whitechapel at large: I don't understand Twitter. From what I know, it's useful for promoting yourself, but is it good for interpersonal communication or is it just a one-way thing? Just asking.
@lingeredshade, I too am paranoid, and have shied away from these things in the past. Whitechapel and Mr. Ellis' policy of openness have loosened me up somewhat, but even so, I also joined Facebook yesterday and have kept myself so hidden from view that I've already been chastised by my first friend. Apparently I won't get to meet anyone that way. ::shrugs::
However, the job was working on a gallery website, and promoting the trust that funds it via all internet portals was on the job spec, so it's in line with what I would have to do. Besides, even if they did scale the walls of my privacy settings, they would only find out that I love Lost, adored In The Loop, and thought the finale of Battlestar Galactica was a colossal mess. Unless someone at the gallery has recently changed their name to Kara Thrace, I reckon I'm okay.
As for Twitter, so far I've found out that Wil Wheaton likes a sport of some kind (he spent all night discussing the teams but I couldn't figure out what they were playing), Rob Corddry has been punching Canadians, Graham Linehan is pretty much "on" all the time, Alyson Hannigan is loving being a mom, and Whitchapel Twitterers are lovely, friendly people. I consider my life improved by it, even just after one night. There is indeed back-and-forth communication, either publicly or via direct messaging. Now I have to resist the temptation to "follow" everyone here.
