Sometimes I post obscure music videos because I can't find the words to express myself in certain moments. twitter wont let me be creative :(
I guess you could tinyurl a link to one. It's a kind of compromise.
Oh, and the sport Wil Wheaton was watching? Hockey. It all makes sense now. And I think I just ruined Richard Kadrey's day (ETA: By mentioning the US remake of Let The Right One In). This is a bad thing.
The Let The Right One in remake info still gives me nightmares.
Writers can get plenty from Twitter, but I love Whitechapel, too. I don't post a lot because I often find myself listening on WC. When I'm working on big projects, I can fall into the little bubble that's my own brain, so it's interesting to hear about what others are looking at and reading.
I've learned to like Twitter mostly for its restrictions. People complain about not how short discourse is there, but I think that restriction can enhance writing. That's the entire history of poetry. Saying something interesting or amusing in 140 characters is a great game and a fun discipline. Plus, it keeps people from yammering on and on the way I have here.
non-social, strictly ejected nonsense designed for anonymous amusement. I am following three people and it is already disorienting SARA BENINCASA BE QUIET OK
I disagree. There tend to be quite a few cases of keyboard diarrhea, with my Twitter stream filling up the dozens of posts all by the same person. I generally stop following them after three or four bursts of those, but some, like Joe Quesada's, are actually interesting and informative.
Furthermore... you yammer here? Have I not been paying attention? I've notice some burbling to the surface now and then, but I propose that I yammer here far more often more than yourself. Which reminds me, I probably ought to remove myself for a while. Let the big people talk and all that.
Yeah that's a page back in this thread. I look at his stream and it's indistinguishable from earnest insanity or extravagant satire.
Twitter! Don't turn into fucking facebook but some kind of identity verification certif. would be helpful. I feel like I'm swimming in a swimming pool of uncertainty! (the uncertainty is the water (that I am swimming in))
I have a simple Twitter rule: Assume all the celebs are fake until proven otherwise. There are a few verified ones that I follow. FWIW, here is a random assortment of celebs that I know/friends know are real

Also, michael_bay is a hilarious fake and well worth following.
Thanks for that list, @Richard Kadrey, especially Fake Michael Bay. (I still feel bad about wrecking your day recently. Maybe this will make you feel better; I predict the US remake of Let The Right One In will be the My Girl of vampire movies.)
The best rumor I heard about Let The Right One (and complete bullshit) is that Diablo Cody was going to write it , make the kids 18 and turn it into a Juno-style teen romp.
Twitscape, lol. Actually I coined a term for the act of coining a term phonetically related to twitter: twitterlexicalizing. (thank you, reverse dictionary) thoughts?
(note that I twitterlexicalized "twitterlexicalize" in order to articulate a concept towards which I could direct my NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO when I realised I had succumbed to the twitterlexicalizing phenomenon. ...yes.)
Personally i´m not bothered with Twitter right now for 2 main reasons
1: No one in Iceland i know is using it (altohugh like Facebook, once they do, EVERYONE under the age of 35 will be on it all day...). the same goes for the UK... 2: MY phone is having problems with using twitter (don´t worry it´s just my crappy old phone)
and this for me does sum up certain aspects of twitter at the moment...
You forgot LeVar Burton, Brent Spiner, Wil Wheaton, and Trent Reznor. All very well worth it people to follow.
@lingered shade You can still post vids and such. You just convert it to a 'tinyurl' and post away. I like the facebook way, but the Twitter way isn't horrid. Also, I get alot of interpersonal communication from Twitter. Also, sometimes I babble at celebs that have way too much going on to give a shit about what I say. It just makes me feel better when I'm bored.
@ Richard Kadrey - that's an interesting point you make about how restriction can enhance writing. I've been staying away from Twitter because I was concerned that it would lead my online communications to be even more mindless than they already are, but maybe it'll help me learn some discipline, like you said. Thanks for the perspective on that.
@ CinnamonAndSpite - I guess it couldn't hurt to give this Twitter thing a chance...might not be for a few weeks though. I've got some projects due for finals and I'm taking some time off from the Internets until they're done. Which is also why it took me so long to respond to you guys, sorry 'bout that.
