Good to see the views of all but 1 (or 2) of the FreakAngels together. Doesn't look like the Shoreditch Park lot could organise a mortar attack against Whitechapel. Looks like they can barely scrub a few sticks together. I wonder what Mark and/or Luke might be up to while the cats are away?

I finally feel a bit better after a string of post-xmas illnesses. Still breakfasting on painkillers and berocca, just to be on the safe side. Off to drink at the Bavarian Beerhouse in Shoreditch tonight.

I'm pretty, pretty good thankew. Even with the disturbed sleep and tingling gums that seem to be part and parcel of switching to nicotine gum. I'm not going to let a little thing like that piss on my picnic, though.

That episode was not at all what I was expecting. However, I fear that the gang behaved in exactly the way Luke was expecting. Alice may need to be watching her back during the next few episodes.

Morning world.
All's well here. Two fairly big sites got finished this week just in time for a new ep of Freakangels.
And Coilhouse #2 turned up as well, of which more later.

We're definitely past magic hour now aren't we? I wonder how difficult it will be to continue to draw "night-lier" panels. Is it just a matter of putting ever less transparent filters over the finished panel or doesn't that cut the mustard (says the guy who couldn't draw a stick with a stick to draw around)

I recently had an enormous tumor removed from my ass, but upon inspection post-operation it turns out it was just my damned head. Apparently it'd been there a while, but I'm feeling better now.

Shoreditch appears to be a ruse so far, as I don't see much happening there but cancer of the hope and fail.
Of course, that makes perfect sense - work out a way to send the majority of them off on a wild goose chase, then slip in after and do horrible things to make them all cry.
But I doubt somehow that #12 has had the time or leisure to lay around finding out that he/they can teleport, and it won't be long until a real brouhaha starts - but I don't think it'll be around Shoreditch. Which also means that I don't think the Freakangels are going to be keeping their secret from the bulk of Whitechapel's populace for too much longer.

And somehow, I get the feeling that that's exactly what's being planned. Work the cracks in the cookie until it breaks, then kick the crumbs asses.

I could be totally wrong, I do seem to excel in that field.

I love the switchup from the freaked out 'angels in mid-teleport to the spookiness of the glowing eyes at night.

It hasn't really been mentioned specifically, but I also liked the job Paul did of drawing the raiders prior to this. They looked so ordinary and less than menacing despite their attempted action. I especially liked the bit with the last raider and Kait. He seemed more like a nice kid trying to get her to go on a date with him than someone who'd just been trying to kill her.

Really good episode. I like the way this is developing and the way the world is being built up, all the ambiguities... lovely.

Me? Hard, hard, bloody, long week - restructure at work, for which I've had to do a huge amount of supporting work - I've survived but 250 haven't. Pretty sick, and living on a cocktail of nurofen, ginseng, vitamins, wine, and Red Bull, none of which I think is healthy.

I once again survived the "learn Chinese philosophy in a week" week for the course I teach. It's insane. Cool, but insane.

Like everyone else, I loved the teleportation freakout page. And the pissed off glowing eyes panel, too. Seeing them all together emphasizes how different they all are. I love Paul's little touches. Like their footwear, or lack thereof, which I was noticing this week for some reason.

That group sure doesn't look like the sort of people who can organize an attack like that. But looks can be deceiving.

Ha, excellent episode, the pacing was superb, it flowed really naturally. How the hell did the Grey Ditch crew get their hands on all those big guns when they can barely light a fire? I've suggested FA to a wonderful new friend of mine. She's slowly making her way through various comics by the Moore, Gaiman, Ellis, etc.

And found out another acquaintance from way back already reads it.

Oh, this week: LOVED the 'porting scene. Arkady's my favourite by far. I enjoy the others' company, but Arkady'd be the one I'd spend my time with. She's always so smiley.

I, too, thought that page would make a great poster.

What the Freakangels should do, what they can do and what they're willing to do are three different things - just as they are for the rest of us. I should cure AIDS in Africa. I could sell all my possession and volunteer to work the rest of life as a missionary to improve the lives of Africans. I will occasionally send some money if I happen to see one of those Sally Struthers commercials. Like that.

I'm eager to see what the country did to them to make them hate everyone else so much that they would destroy their world.

Don't overthink it. Haven't you ever been tired? Or angry? Or both? A few weeks back I had a lousy day at work. Some people didn't show up, the store was already crowded during holiday shopping. My ride was late picking me up (my car is non-functional now) and I was on my ragged nerve. After I got home and began to unwind the phone rang and I had to get it. It was the March of Dimes collecting pledges. So I blew up and said. "Look, if God wanted deformed kids helped He wouldn't have invented condoms and abortions, so fuck off!" And I hung up. And in that second I felt a surge of pleasure for being able to make sombody else feel as bad as I did. And afterwards I felt (and feel) guilty about it because it was a nasty, hateful, rude thing to do.

So, put yourself in the 'angels' place. You're seventeen years old. You're being hunted relentlessly. You have no truly safe place. You live hand to mouth like rats. You're always frightened, always angry and always so damned tired. Wouldn't you want to make it stop? Wouldn't you want to finally stand up on your hind legs and hit back at your tormentors? Wouldn't you finally decide "Fuck 'em all, they've brought this on themselves" and knock down the whole lousy house of cards?

Plus, consider that when you're scared, angry and tired, your control isn't its best. The Freakangels might well have done far more damage than they meant to do.

Does anybody else think that "gutbucket" is a pretty bizarre insult to use post-apocalypse?

OK, Connor used to be fat, and then the freakangel phenotype kicked in (skinny, purple-eyed, not black).

So what? He isn't fat any more! It's no longer worth being rude about. This picking on Connor also happened last week - (provoking the sublime "cockmonkey" retort - which is spreading round my hood like bird flu BTW).

After the "good days" ended, you can argue that having a big fat gut is a status symbol (a la Henry VIII) - I'm sure the poor sods huddled around the measly campfire would agree.

So why are the other FAs being beastly to Connor? This brings us to my next suggestion - if Mark really is dead, (and we don't know he's alive, we haven't seen him and one FA thinks he's killed him), perhaps Connor is trying to bring down the group. They are being foul to him. Could Connor have 'ported up to Manchester and made Alice believe that Mark killed her brothers? Is Mark really dead, and Connor is the FreakTraitor?

Remind me, which Freakangel was keenest that Alice got properly looked after? Oh yeah, that's right!

@Louie Huwie Um... My baby brother is eight years younger than me and we have three siblings in between (I'm the oldest). Even though he's easily the tallest and heaviest of us all, even though he drove a tank for a year in Iraq and even though he was otherwise stationed in Germany and even though he has burn marks on his neck from exploding ordinance, even though he's shared a great deal of his money and toys and is as kind an uncle to my niece as anyone could hope for... My sibs and I still look at him as the little boy trailing after us, howling for mommy if anything were to go wrong. We still treat him as though we need to remind him to wipe his nose or wash his hands. We still tease him if he forgets anything (even though I'm probably more absentminded).

He's a 23 year old man. Yeah, he's got a lot to learn still. But he's not remotely the five year old I still sometimes envision. He's mostly patient with us.

Actually, we do have some pretty compelling evidence. Alice's first trip to the Watchtower was where we learn that Conner once "lived on bran flakes and oat milk for a year" due to his "weight thing." In episode 42 we have Kirk flatly telling Alice that "Conner used to be really fat" and Conner's "You complete and utter cockmonkey" reaction. Add those to "Doctor" Miki's "getbucket" insult and yes, I'm willing to believe that Conner indeed used to be really fat.

When I'm trying to lose weight I have bran flakes for breakfast. They're actually not that bad. They taste better if you chuck a nice handful of raisins (or two) in and mix then around. Even lower fat than bran flakes is All-Bran, but I'm not even going into how boring that tastes. I mean, you can literally eat a massive heaped bowl of All-Bran and only consume about 90 freaking calories. The downside is that it tastes like crunchy cardboard and makes you do enormous poo's. The upside is that is fills you right up, but one couldn't really call it satisfying by any scope of the imagination.
