Aaaaaaand we're back -- yay Friday, yay FREAKANGELS.
G'morning, Whitechapel folk. Who's dreading today, and who's dreading tomorrow? Remember, the significance of either date is based on superstition, confusion, and outright lies. You're just as likely to have a romantic today and fall down the stairs tomorrow.
No microscope exists that can measure the amount that I care about the 14th February. So, a day of going to the gym, catching up with friends and chilling out with the wife like any other Saturday awaits me, and I'm perfectly fine with that. Hope everyone here has a good day too.
And I don't think I've said it before here so it's long overdue, but FREAKANGELS? Bloody brilliant.
Mr Ellis, Mr Duffield: good work, gentlemen. Trying to think of why this week's episode feels like such a highlight, and I think it's just the way that the characters seem genuinely human, with honest-to-goodness personalities. It's a real joy to read.
I have a real good feeling about this weekend, even though the week was almost all crap. It will be my first weekend off in a month and I actually have butterflies in tummy from anticipation.
And as always, Freakangels are by far the best way to start the weekend. Great episode, I love the facial expressions in this one. Lovely work as always.
A so-so week after a few bad ones, so all's good in the hood, really. V-Day tomorrow, and I can reveal my gift - been sitting on tickets for The Cure for weeks now!
If KK says they can do it, they can do it. And, hey, Sirkka gets more toys. It really all comes back to Sirkka and what she does for me. There's no saving me at all.
I like the irony of the setting: Freakangels discussing and arguing loudly about the sick people surrounding them, a bit like when parents talk about their divorcing in front of their toddler, believing them kids can't understand whereas the latters are frightened like hell. Of course another coup de théâtre is going to bang its way into the story. Can't wait for next episode. And the ones after neither.
Except that the Angels are on mass call, which makes me assume that the group can't hear them. I think it's amusing that they're having the very same argument that we had in discussion of the doctor/engineer training. And also I love KK's change of heart. She may be a ruthless, water-can throwing bitch when the chips are down, but it's nice to know that she still cares, deep down.
Is this the first time we get an actual number of Whitechapel residents? I can't remember, but I think it is.
Paul, I love the Arkady/fly panel. I'm starting to think you love her a little more than the others... she gets all the best panels. ;-)
I love Fridays the 13th. On the other hand, I hate Valentine's Day. So I'm covered.
Am I to assume that the mass call-static line is them speaking telepathically? Or did they freeze time and space and stuff, excluding themselves? And this cryptic talk of "the package" and absorbing knowledge ... colour me intrigued.
Thanks go to Warren and Paul and our all-powerful webmistress Ariana.
Ah yes, thanks to Ariana for allowing the world to continue while Warren's machines work to slowly disconnect him from the outside world and then strangle him with their power cords.
AND HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY ALL YOU LOSERS. (In reality, I couldn't care less... Like I say about most holidays, if we need a scripted day to say "I love you", what kind of society are we in? What does it say about your relationship?)
warren/paul; you both continue to amaze with the twist and turns of everyday life after the end of the world. with the consumption of the words and visuals, you have created something very special and something which seems most real and actual. my friday morning trips into flooded london are just so special and rewarding. thank you both.
ariana, no world exist without a mechanic and damn if your' not the best. it's friday it's freakangels is THE mantra for us all.
as for v-day; another day for this tired old soul. i am alone(in the biblical sense) as it should be.
You know how some steampunks and survivalists get kind of "stoked" about the world ending for real (I've seen a link to the overly perky Steampunks Guide to the Apocalyse somewhere around here). Warren has perfectly captured that feeling here
I feel I am getting very redundant saying this yet again, but I am loving this story.
As much as I hate Valentine's Day, my girlfriend loves Friday the 13ths....and this is our 12th anniversary! that combined with having visitors from Southend this week (my Sister,brother-in-law and niece are visiting me here in Canada) should make for a good weekend.
Ariana - The only class I have today is Sci-Fi literature, followed by a weeklong winter break from school. And my boyfriend got me an early Valentine's Day gift: Crooked Little Vein. I think I'll be alright ;)
Happy Desperation Day, Everybody! You single and seeking kids have the rest of the day to find that special someone... just hope Friday the 13th doesn't dominate.
Aah, another FA Power. Seems like Whitechapel's getting a few new residents. But what do the ones who didn't speak have to say about this? Warren should market the FreakAngels Package and sell it, because I'd totally buy one.
Very good episode. Fine dialogue and Paul Duffield's art is excellent as usual.
I hadn't even noticed it's Friday the 13th until you mentioned. So yeah, I kinda don't care. I don't mind walking under ladders either. You should see people's faces on the street when I do. Sigh.
I love seeing despair turning into hope. It comes perfectly after Arkady revealing her gift. If she can teleport, who knows what they all can really do.
I love 13s, so today is no problem for me. I'm also off work for the next 4 days, and will be attending a wedding in Arizona tomorrow. My husband's cousin is getting married after a 14 year engagement. Don't ask me why; I have no idea. This side of the family likes margaritas. It's going to be a good time.
FIrst time I realised during reading the brilliant Freakangels, is that the series made actually be about hope. That's of course probably just before Warren crashes the whole thing down again next week ...
