    Just a few things

@dispophoto I love that last shot. I can't say why exactly, but it's just really striking. It even made my companion stop and go "Hey what's that? Cool picture." So yeah, it's got something. Also I think I spot a nikon strap!

@harchangel Goregeous shots all of them. Lovely job.

Amateur here. Link to my flickr dump, but things are rarely organized there, so you will have to sift through a lot of gunk to find anything interesting:

    Here are some snaps:

    Obligatory macro:

    Obligatory Amanda Palmer photos:

    Wata of BORIS:

    Skeleton Witch

    Torche (I think):

    Obligatory sunset picture:

    Artsy Fartsy:

I probably posted too many :(

What are you using for a camera? What were you using for lighting on the Skeleton Witch shot?
    • CommentTimeMar 30th 2009
Nikon d50 with an off camera SB600 strobe bounced off the ceiling.
    • CommentTimeMar 30th 2009
Damn you Nikon D-series! One day you will be mine!

As far as the lighting, I figured it was flash, but wasn't sure if it was camera-mounted or not. That's probably the best in-club shot I've seen in a long time, if ever. Nice one.

Speaking of Camera Models, is there a particular brand of Camera you guys would recommend? I'm thinking of getting a new one. Its going to have to be under 200 bucks, so I'm not expecting much, but mine is just... miserable, and I'm sure with new tech I could find something slightly more passable. Anyway, good brands of cheap-ish cameras?

@Munin We have the same set up! I have a d50 and an sb600. Haven't played with it off camera yet. How do you shoot off camera in a venue like that? Your shots are amazing, all of them. What lenses do you have? I've only got my kit zoom and a 50mm 1.8

@CinnamonAndSpite If you're just looking for a nice digital point and shoot, some canon powershots and nikon coolpix are in your price range and both equally fine products imho, despite the gay names. [I shoot nikon currently, but I've used both powershots and coolpix in the past] Go into a shop [even a best buy] and play with them, you might personally prefer one over the other. The difference between major brands is really only a big deal when you get into DSLRs and the way the lenses and bodies are built and priced.

@lexmachine I see! Tyvm for the advice. :D

@lexmachine I can't speak for Munin, but you can either use the flash handheld, on a stick, on a clamp/strap attached to something in the venue, or get an assistant to run around looking like a fool with a flash. Once, I saw a dude carry a couple light stands with him to a small club. It was a bad idea.

@CinnamonAndSpite I'll 2nd lexmachine's Canon recommendation. I've owned several Powershot/Digital Elph cameras over the last few years and beaten them to hell. Canon has excellent colors. I briefly owned a Nikon and while it took sharp photos, the colors weren't as nice, so I went back to Canon. This is largely a personal preference issue though, so for the price, you can't really go wrong with either. I can't recommend using Flickr's Camera Finder highly enough.

See, I was thinking that, lol. But I hadn't thought about just carrying it around handheld. I'll have to play with it and see what I can come up with/rig up.

@Whispering OMG the koalas! so cute

Couple of new ones from me:

I sold a painting on Friday, so I celebrated by purchasing a Leica D-Lux 4 to replace by beloved and busted D-Lux 3. I'm digging it the most. All of these shots are straight from the camera with no post processing.

    COOP-Beautiful shots

I looked up while lying in the grass in my backyard and decided it would make a nice picture.

@COOP I have to admit, I was mildly disappointed that when those mondo files loaded there were no naked ladies in them :P But man, only mildly. They're all really impressive shots. What a sweet camera. And even if it's only slivers, the one does contain yummy, yummy cars and cars are almost as good as naked girls.
